Title: To the person who made a private offer to buy a rare UK item on ebay...
Post by: Taffeta on February 21, 2018, 06:34:58 AM
Spoiler
I was the high bidder on this item.

Today with no explanation I got a refund on my order.

I am very upset. This item is very rare and something I have wanted since 1987.

Friday is my birthday.

I have been dealing with a lot of stuff of late, and this was something important to me.

This item is so rare that possibly no others exist.

This means that having this item will reveal to everyone here that you made a private offer behind a fellow collector's back to deprive them of their item. And that will be found out. And I will be making sure everyone knows that it happened.

Please retract your offer on the item immediately. It is not honourable to steal other people;s auction wins.

If not, I will openly state what the item is here, who the seller was, and I will alert people to what item to look out for in people's collection comments, photos and otherwise.

Please do the right thing. Ponypeople do not stab each other in the back.

Original post in spoilers for integrity of discussion.

Quick summary update.

Turns out the auction was a fraud all along with a stolen image. I've got the link to the other auction courtesy of babydoll.

If anyone wants to make any kind of silly remark about this, please don;t.

I am very upset.

Glad that ultimately no ponyperson stabbed me in the back.

But still, very upset.

Thank you.

Oh that’s terrible. I don’t know who did it, but I’ll keep my eyes open. Sounds like a really important thing, shame someone did this.

I don't understand why someone would do that. If you pay, it's yours. End of story.

I agree and I left the Jem community because of people thinking they were more important than anyone else and the rules. This private offer thing used to happen a lot there and I know the signs. Rule in the Jem comm was that if you actually received it, then it was yours, but the auction didn't always end when the actual auction ended because of backstabbing offers.

If it's not a private offer, I don't understand why the seller hasn't sent a message to explain. But if it is, I feel like someone here might have done it. And that hurts a whole lot more.

If you bid and you don't win, then that's life. If you can't afford it when it comes up, that's life. If your PC crashes or you miss the auction, that's life. If someone else gets there first, that's life. If you bid and you win, you expect to get your item. Simple as that. I've never scammed anyone in my life. Never lied to anyone I've sold to or traded with, Never cheated anyone on ebay, never taken a private offer or made one, either. No matter how much I have wanted an item, I've never done any of those things. I couldn't live with anything in my collection coming through dishonest means.

I want to know what the item was anyway, because I'm nosy and love merch.  ^^;

So sorry that happened, Taffeta.  Some people seem to think their wants are more important than others'.

What happened, Taffeta?

I am nosy too - what was it that you had bid on?

Bummer that the item was rare... it sucks when you are let down after being excited about getting a grail  >_<

Please do let us know what it was when the situation is resolved?

Can't say I've had this happen to me personally on eBay (gosh it's been years since I bought a pony at all) but I've had similar experiences at garage sales back in the day, and yeah it sucks.  Hoping it works out for you, and add me to the curious list for what piece of merch.  Maybe the combined efforts of the community can turn another one up!

Until I have given the seller the opportunity to explain themselves and their actions, I am not going to give more details. I'm angry but not enough to tarnish someone's reputation without giving them a chance to rectify the situation or explain what is going on.

The last time the private offer thing happened to me was in the Jem community. As I said, in Jem world this was apparently all fine behaviour among a particularly disgusting clique of greedy rich souls. One time it happened to me and it was the last straw. It was obvious who the person was as she bragged about getting that item, so I blocked her from bidding on my items. This really annoyed her as I had a lot of the other things she was looking for and she spent six months sending me grovelling emails begging me to unblock. She's still blocked though. It's one of those things I don't consider forgivable, as it's driven by greed and self-interest, nothing else. I can forgive a lot of things but backstabbing another collector to get something you have no right to get is not one of them. To me it's almost as bad as scamming, because someone still ends up upset and out an item that they should have had.

That was also when I left the Jem community, because frankly by then it was getting ridiculous.

I feel your pain I have this happen all the time :( Last time was maybe 2 weeks ago so I left the seller negative feedback as she had listed the pony at a cheap BIN and then cancelled the sale and relisted the pony at triple the price once she seen I had bought it and must have looked at my store! Partly the reason why I have a separate buying account now! But also have had many other pony lots cancelled in the past and then see other sellers start listing the same ponies! :/

P.S Also curious about what rare pony it was? There was an auction that ended last night that had stolen a pic from a auction that I had won the week before from a different seller so makes me wonder?

Thank you babydoll.

It turns out that this was the same auction image and that the seller I dealt with stole it from another auction.

I am crying a lot right now because I thought finally I had a chance to own her, but I guess I never will.

At least I know no ponyperson stabbed me in the back, but that's not much consolation at the moment.

Oooh she would get it from me! This is unacceptable! I'd rip her reputation to shreds and set fire to the remains! Isn't that called shilling or something?  Definitely report her rotten butt to ebay!

No, it;'s just basic fraud. Stealing another's image to list an auction. I know someone raised this as an issue a few days or so back but I don't know if it was the same case or person. I couldn;t get that image or link to load and what the item was was never mentioned.

If it had been any other pony I guess I'd probably be relieved right now because at least I know no ponyperson did this to me. And I also know that the person who has her is a good person who will love her. But I guess 30 years of frustration just kind of took over me.

I wish I had never seen the auction. It's totally ruined my birthday and honestly, right now I don';t even want to look at my ponies at all. To have your heart so invested in something and then have it turn out to be someone's callous attempt to steal money is just...

I just feel like...I would have loved her too.

How do you know that is exactly what happened Taffeta?  I mean there is always the possibility of sellers remorse.  We don't talk about it often, but it can happen.  You have an item you hate to sell, you try to sell it and realize you can't.  So you refund.  Sure it could have been what you are suggestion..yea I get that, but there might be another reason yes?  One thing is for certain it is not good when an item is sold and then a seller changes their mind no matter what their excuse is.  That certainly is very upsetting and unfair to a buyer.

Oh I just read what happened. I am so sorry Taffeta.  On the one hand I am so glad you didn't think you were getting something and never get it and your money be gone.  That is at least good you got a refund.  Still, that is quite upsetting and I don't blame you for how you feel about it.

Tulagirl, please read the whole thread.

It's not seller's remorse. It's image theft fraud. And frankly right now I am not in any mood to listen to a defence of the seller.

I am going to edit the top post.

Yea I did and I was just editing because, I did go back and realized what happened.  So re-read my edit you must have missed it. Can this person be reported for this? I wish that something was done to stop this. This is going on a lot now.  I don't seem to ever hear people facing the consequences.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the support. It us upsetting but I did hear from the seller. She claims the auction was not fraudulent so she may or may not have the item and may have just borrowed a picture. Either way even if that is the case I don't want any more involvement with her . She also says she had a sudden death in the family. Her behaviour has been odd so maybe that is true. She has cancelled the auction and listrd it as out of stock.

I do not know if I believe her but she did respond and did refund me. There wasn't a private offer and if she didn't keep my money then she wasn't defrauding me.

I don't totally understand but all her other feedback is positive. Given this and the fact I am not out any money I am not going to make a bigger issue from it. It will stay on my list of auctions on my ebay so if it gets relisted I will of course raise it here.

A lot of stuff has been building up on me with non pony things and it is better for me to let this go now. I know the real pony has a good safe home and that is important.

Mods please close the thread if you could. Matter is resolved in my mind and I will just cry again if I keep reading all your awesome comments.

I actually had the first situation you mentioned happen to me with baby Sapphire hidden in a lot of fakies and common ponies on ebay, no mention of names, I won for an amazing price...but of course I was not the only person to spot the gem in the pile and someone else offered the seller money and bought the baby, while I was given lots of excuses and a refund....  it really upset me at the time, so with everything going on in your life too I can understand why this would hit you even harder  :deathhug:

I really hope that you can get whatever it was you really wanted again soon, even if it's something HTF. Not impossible *more hugs*  and if you don't want to read anymore or reply on here that's ok, we understand XX :lovey:
