SO, I am going to make this open to whichever generation you wish to use as bait. You can also choose any generation of pony as your favorites, but please specify generation.
I will try to pair people who prefer to make g3s with other people to prefer to make g3s...same goes for g4s.
you will take the DESIGN of a G1...or G3... or even G2. and put that design or concept on to a G3 or G4...so basically we are taking one generation and turning it into a different generation!
I will require a previous completed custom, a month of arena membership and at least 2 feedback (ebay may be used for ONE feedback)

Photo Check in: May 19
Final Photo Check in / Addresses sent: June 1
Shipping: June 2-4

Rules:
*** You must have 2 Arena Feedback (you can use ebay for ONE of these feedbacks)
*** You must have been an arena member for at least 1 month
***As per Arena rules, you must be in no more than 2 other swaps, and must be over the age of 16.
*** Please! Ship on time! I realize real life issues come up sometimes. If this happens, I want to know about it as soon as you realize you will be late. COMMUNICATION IS KEY!
if you do a final check in early, and your partner is done as well, I might allow you to ship early, however, I would prefer everyone ship at the same time
***Send me pictures of your completed custom before you ship. If you do not check in, you will not receive an address, or a pony.
*** Let me know when you ship your pony AND when you receive one.
*** Do not let anyone know who your partner is. It is secret.
*** Extras are not required. This is about the customs. A small treat/gift or 2 is fine, but we want the focus to be on your custom work!
***Do not use any fakies or babies unless your partner requests it.

G1 to G4 was fun! Great way to get your foot in the door.

I would be interested if it was at least G3 ponies. I don't have much interest in any of the G1 ponies, except for the flutter ponies and the sweetheart sisters, but I adore the g3 ponies. Being a newbie, I have no idea if specifying the body type of the pony is even acceptable. If it is, I could be happy with the G1 to g4 if I could specify a flutter pony or a sweetheart sister.
Anyway, that's my two cents. :)

we could always make it G1,G2 or G3 as a G4.
I like to make a newbie swap require baits that are easily available...and since the G4s are in stores, they are easy to hunt down ^_^
but we could turn them into any generation of pony you like!

I'm interested! I still feel like a newbie even though I meet the requirements for not in most of the other swaps. XD Also, G1 to G4 sounds like fun. (I've never been a huge fan of G2 or G3 personally, though I think that's 'cause I never really played with them much.)
Also, as a question, are we considered done with a swap when we ship our pony, when they get the pony, when everyone's gotten their pony....?

I'd be interested but I don't like G4's and they're too fiddly for my taste so I'd wanna do a G3 to something else. Sorry! :cloud:

do you have a timeframe for this? I'm in the middle of doing one for the MD meet in addition to a commission to finish come end of April, so I am thinking to sit out even regular swaps till after that = but if it was something after easter and before the fair that would be cool :-) I'd be in for either a G1 or G3 as I have no desire for the non-pony look of the G4 (except for the amazing customs!) but I do like some of the color combos and symbols and such :-)

I have to say, I've found G4s quite hard to work with, and I don't think they'd be the best base gen for a newbie swap. I couldn't believe how many little problems I ran into when I first did one.
Totally interested, though!

On that note, I've got a few G3s that I wouldn't mind sending off to those who'd need them for just the cost of postage. G4s are easier to find, but the neck plug makes for issues, occasionally.

oh geesh I totally read that backwards = I would prefer to see a G4 pony as a G1 or G3 = so I hope the transfers are reversible = only one not on my list would be applejack ;-)

The swap as a whole is completed once everyone has received a custom.
I think individuals can consider themselves done once their partner has received their custom.
As far as G3 vs G4...it does make it easier if everyone uses the same generation bait...however I suppose we can have two categories, G4 bait and G3 bait. We can make this a "Hasbro" swap...so you can list your favorite Hasbro ponies and your partner can make you an alternate version of one of the ponies on your list.
as far as time frame goes, I was thinking start time might be mid - late March? working thru till May?June? that way folks have plenty of time to work? 2 months too long? too short?

Given the clarification on Bait choices, count me in! I vote for a start time of late March. I have three commissions plus a personal project I'm working on at the moment but they should be cleared up by late march for sure.

last time we did this we had a few who entered that were not newbies *cough hanna cough* but just wanted to participate, and didn't mind getting a pony from a new member. so its not limited to new members, but they are the focus so that they can earn feedback and custom experience.
As far as feedback goes - any sales, trades, etc that you have done on the board will be okay. and if there is someone who you had a transaction with who hasn't left feedback, you can always ask them to (or even give me their name when you sign up, and I will message them to ask about the transaction)
We have all been new with no feedback, many people are very understanding and willing to give new members a chance :)

once again, you don't have to be a new member, or even new to customs. this swap is to help members with little feedback build it up, as well as give beginner customizers some practice. In past "newbie" swaps we have had members who have been around for years join because they enjoyed the theme and wanted to participate. there is not a MAX amount of time/feedback/customs that would omit someone from participating. this is open to anyone who wants to participate and meets the very small amount of requirements.
That said, I will write up the rules, and start signups in mid March.
If you are waiting on a trade to complete, looking for someone to trade with or sell to in order to earn a feedback...or need your old feedback brought over... that should be plenty of time.

Ooh, I am def interested! I JUST meet the feedback requirements, and only made my first custom this month (a fakie, but still). I have never rehaired though... which could pose a problem. So I'll have to see, depending on timing, and if I decided to do more customs and try hairing ponies before then. :)

I was thinking of buying a g4 Pegasus and turning her into Wind Whistler. Then I was trying to figure out if I did then how to get all those small whistles on her rear.
I know we have a bunch of new customizers who have come around lately.
Its been about 6 months since the last newbie swap, which was pretty successful!!

Just going to pop in and let everyone know that I'm happily available to answer any questions, critique WIPs and provide hugs for those who need them.
For some of you this is your first official swap...let me tell you that your heart will flutter during this and at times you may worry about if your partner will like your gift. Trust me your partner will love the time and generosity and beauty of your pony.
Also swaps are addicting if you really enjoy this you will crave the need to do more :hug:

Just wondering if you could mention about the trade/selling feedback is being considered only? Because that way if the newbies who dont qualify (me included) and dont hear back from you they would know before hand? because the rules make it seem like with 2 feedback that any newbie can join. I know that I didnt have time to review the many pages of the thread to see your only looking for trades/sales feedback. Oh well theres always another swap I could join in the future :) I cant wait to see the ponies that are made :)

This may seem like a silly question, but its better asked now rather than later.
We are taking a design from our partners favorite ponies, and transferring it to a different generation, right? Are we supposed to do it exactly the same or is there room for creativity and reinvention? Also, what happens if they list everything from the same generation?

in general its a "make it look like it should"...however if your partner is fine with an "artist interpretation" then its fine.

I think that since we're using G3 or G4 baits, pick the generation it isn't. Unless that pony spans many gens with no real differences (Pinkie Pie D:)

I like artist interpretations too, the more creative the better. I also like a pony that is designed like the name of the pony, rather than the original design. I can't wait to get started! (sharpens paint brush)

I know some have said they like artistic interpretation, but my question is this: Are these going to be only painting the symbols of a pony to another, and is it supposed to be exactly like the favorite pony or can we add things to it? For example - If star hopper was one of my favorite ponies, could I put do the spaceship with sculpting and could I add beams coming from the ship or should it be exactly like Star Hoppers?

I don't know what anyone else has decided, but I decided to do it as though Hasbro decided to release it in that generation of pony. Assuming they didn't screw it up.
I think artist interpretations are cool though :)

I'm excited to get to work on mine. My partner listed a pony I love so I will really enjoy making her. Just waiting on the hair to come in. Finishing up some commissions in the meantime.
I know that for anyone who gets me, you can be as creative as you like. If you want to add to the symbol thats fine. Normally an earth pony but you want to do a Pegasus or earth pony? That's fine too. Have fun with it.

Who all likes/dislikes alternate hair on their ponies? I personally adore yarn as hair...

I tend to prefer regular mlp hair, personally. But I'm also okay with a more perfume-puff style, or mohair locks. I don't like just strands of yarn, or embroidery thread. I'm also okay with tinsel in moderation.

I love yarn because of all the different varieties and textures. I know that the yarn I chose for my husbands Steelers pony ended up making it look like a polamalu steelers pony which was not intentional at all.

I haven't decided if I'm a fan of yarn on ponies or not. I think it would depend on the type of yarn used, but I dont know. I can't stand tinsel either, but that is only because my cat absolutely adores the stuff XD I swear it is like a cat magnet...
Also, for anyone who gets me, I am perfectly fine with artistic interpretation :) I didn't think to mention that earlier.

Mohair ponies are sooooo soft and petable. I've done a few and always spend about 5 minutes petting their hair before I have to pack them up for shipping.

I prefer "real hair" rather than yarn, mohair (unless it's a powder puff) or sculpted.

I'm not too big on sculpted hair, but I don't mind yarn. Embroidery floss was actually a favorite of mine when I was new to customizing. (Err... Newer then I am now, anyway. :P) Synthetic hair is my favorite, but it doesn't have to be nylon!

I've got cats who like to check out the ponies when I open the boxes, so anything with tinsel is not a good idea. The same goes for yarns/floss; I have a terrible time crocheting because they get into everything. But mohair.... I'd just pet it.

I don't like sculpted hair unless it's on a boy pony, but I put that in my app. Otherwise, it's your call. If it makes anyone feel better, I am using saran hair on my creation. :)

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I'm already done! ^^; I started work about a minute after I received my partner, since I already had a prepped bait to use. There's one part on the pony that I'm not too thrilled with, but besides that, I'm really proud of my work. I hope my partner likes it too!

So I'm done rehairing.. Waiting on glue to dry.. and WOW. This is my first time doing super long hair, that is just the hank folded in half.. It took me 3.5 hanks of hair to finish her! I was going to widen her tail hole to make the tail thicker, but I was worried about running out of hair. Im just glad that I ordered two bags when I ordered more.
On a side note.. The pony base I am working on has perfect eyes.. and they actually match the pony I am turning her into.. Would it seem lazy of me to leave them? Or would it be seen as OK? It keeps a more Hasbro feel to her.. but my eyes are a completely different style.. Im just not sure what to do.. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If they fit the pony and look good, leave 'em. :D For me, it's hard to leave original eyes because they aren't always as...hmm...what's the word...sharp? Crisp? They look good because they're factory, but the pony is newly painted so they seem faded to me. Does that make sense? However, if they completely fit in with the rest of the look, then sometimes it's better to go with it. Man, I don't think I was much help at all. lol
BTW, I had my own question for everyone...I'm terrible at cutting hair for customs. It always looks weird and the angle off. If I were your partner, would you mind me leaving it long for you to determine the length/style for?

I also wouldn't mind if the hair was long and unstyled.
If it helps any, one trick I have learned to cutting the hair though is to twist it into one long cord and just cut the cord, then tidy up any unevenness. This gives it a little bit more natural look for uneven ends and such. Or with curls, I snip the ragged end of the curl off.

ok. from what I am seeing, there are many of you who are not ready to ship, and a great number of you who have not PMed me any sort of check in.
while this greatly saddens and upsets me, I am wondering if we need to extend the ship deadline? would it help if I changed the final ship date from June 4 to say...June 14? I will determine my decision by the "yays" or "nays" i get here.

Got it today Kit!! Love it soooo cute and not only did I get one adorable G4 gusty but a matching filly to <3!! Oh and these extras *faints* Im so spoiled!

Yay! I'm glad that they got there safely :D I was worried, since when I went to ship them Gusty's head felt strangly soft, but they had been sitting done long enough I figured that it couldn't be anything to horrible. And glad you like the extras! I felt strange about stalking you through the arena though XD

I'm glad :D I went with the Argentinian Gusty Variant colors because I loved that green/gold combination and because I couldn't find a good purple for a normal Gusty's cutie mark. Originally the baby was supposed to be typical Gusty colors, but my dollyhair didn't quite make it in time, lol.

Edit-Oh and do you happen to own a kitty or another pet cause my cat just loves to sit and sniff the Gustys xD (don't worry he is pony friendly).

XD I do indeed own a cat. Typically she leaves my ponies alone, but she also hangs out on the counter where I store them when they are drying because it is easy access to her favorite window.

well now that everyone is done with their ponies, their partners have been cleared to ship (as many of you know, I asked you to hold on to your pony until your receiving partner was done with theirs)
Hopefully they will all make it to their new homes soon! And please be sure to let us know when you get your pony ^_^

ok first i must apologize, i havent been able to get to the computer and i had to wait to ship the extra extras for kiwisquirt because of money, so it is going out on monday. >.< I am big fail!!!! SORRY KIWI!!!!! :< it'll be worth the wait i promise you!!! ^__^
second, MINE CAME FROM Zzzova!!!! the 2 ponies are just amazing and the card and little match box with stickers and stuffed animal eyes and noses are just sooo cute!!! <3 <3 <3 love them soooo much!!! <3

Yay, mine has arrived from Salli. I went on holiday for a week, got back yesterday and picked up my mail just now from my neighbour and there it is. The ponies, Silver Swirl and Baby Swirly are lovely and so precious and I love the extras. Thank you so much. I will post a brag once you have posted your piccies and once I have taken photos

I just got my pony in! I'll have to post pictures later. Im on my way out to run errands. She looks great Flora! I had forgotten which ponies I put down on my list, so she was a genuine surprise :)

I just thought I'd drop a quick post to say : firstly, I don't have a pony yet. I'm going away for a few days so if mine *is* on its way, I won't get it for a little while.
Secondly, I didn't take many pics of the pony I made for Kitkumi, but here are links to 4 of them. I did make MDG a tutu and some wings, and a princess hat, but they weren't finished when I took the pics so you'd have to ask Kitkumi for extra pics if you would like to see them!
She was painted in acrylics, Swarovski crystal accents in her eyes, No black (like the G2 original) No tinset or glitter on either pony as Kitkumi asked for none, so I used starlight in place of tinsel. Forget me not and sour grapes.

I also made her a second pony, a princess Luna as she is in S1E02, but in a G3 style, but I had a paint disaster and she had to be held here for a little while. She's now ready to go, apart from A little hair styling, and I'll be sending her is a week or so. Here's a pic before she went to be re-haired.

I'm soooooo very sorry about the wait on the post. I've been having a bit of life issues - lost my job and had to find a new one in a hurry. Tribble, Leaper is AWESOME!!!. I received him on 6/21 and promptly had to find a good spot for him before hitting the job search again. Anyway, after a very long wait (So sorry tribble!!) Leaper!

Argh, the package should have been there long ago. This is so worrying. Next time I'm sending it tracked and darn the expense. Please let me know what she says because if I have to make some more I'll need new baits and hair.
