I took a BILLION PICTURES for this, so I'll put them under spoilers from here on out! I haven't seen anyone else posting reviews of the newest castle yet, so I really wanted to get in-depth with this! This is also on my Tumblr, if you wanna see it there! (http://ponyguru.tumblr.com/post/123778721634/my-little-pony-cutie-mark-magic-canterlot-castle)

The newest castle just arrived yesterday, and I couldn’t wait to open it up and see everything! In case you’re curious, the newest castle was just listed on Amazon last week, and at almost three feet tall and priced at $100 (currently on Amazon for $90), it’s the biggest, most ambitious G4 building yet! (The newest castle just arrived yesterday, and I couldn’t wait to open it up and see everything! In case you’re curious, the newest castle was just listed on Amazon last week, and at almost three feet tall and priced at $100 (currently on Amazon for $90), it’s the biggest, most ambitious G4 building yet! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SOG4Q6G/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00SOG4Q6G&linkCode=as2&tag=alabmlme-20&linkId=HLPX2VGBNK72AYYF

First off, lemme assuage some concerns: the castle is not a plastic frame with a cardboard backing. Although there are some cardboard inserts, the majority of the castle is plastic, and feels very sturdy. However, many of the accessories are recycled from G3. Upside - it comes with a crown for you to wear!

To start off, it arrives in a huge box! Our size-model today is a G3 Blankie, rehaired in GITD white!

I really like the shading they used on the vectors for the back!

Here is Celestia and Spike! Spike looks pretty standard, like the one we saw in the Rarity Drives a Car playset. Celestia however gets tinsel, clear glittery wings, and the new QR code on her foreleg!

Here’s an in-progress shot of the castle! This was before I got all of the yellow railing on, which is a little tricky! (All of the pieces are supposed to have slots to fit together flush, so work on it until they click!)

I also had some problems getting the cardboard inserts to fit in right; they seem to be cut just a little too big, so I managed to bend almost all of them to get them to tuck behind the plastic tabs, damaging them in tiny ways.

Here’s something I love about this castle; the stained glass (which is gorgeous and so detailed) and the “thronevator.” When you turn the little knob at the base of the throne, you can lock it at whatever place on the track you want. So Celestia can ascend to the top floor, or just chill out a couple inches above the ground!

Here’s the cardboard inserts; they’re really cute!

ACCESSORIES!! Here’s all of the cool little doodads, which I tried to set up in their “designated” (I think?) spots in the first photo. The bed is pretty cool, but I think my favorite is tied between the blue flame candles (!!!) and the treasure box with Twilight’s letters! I love to see show canon reflected in the toys!

There’s a fair amount of unique molds here (the little tables have stylized suns/stars molded into them, the scrolls, the bed, a bookstand!), but there’s also some repetition, like with the hair clips, the too-small tea set/sweets/table that’s from G3 Ponyville, the tea tray and wand, and of course this old favorite:

The cake with the G3 logo left untouched.

For anyone curious, here are the instructions! As you can see, the stairs are movable!

Overall, I really like this playset, and for $100, it does seem like a lot of energy went into engineering it well. I like that it’s more of a “building” than we’ve seen in past G4 castles, which I miss from G1/G3 days, but it’s a shame that you have to spend $100 to get a house that isn’t just a wall, as with the second G4 castle. I would have liked more ‘unique’ accessories (no more of the Ponyville dangit!!), but the ones we got were pretty great!

For it’s size, scope and attention to detail, I’d say this is a good buy!

If you have any questions, PM me!

Bonus: overly-caffeinated Celestia on the front of the box!

I'm so excited for this castle!  I played with it a bit at the Hasbro booth during the Fair this year, and that just cemented my need for it, so I'll probably pick it up once it hits stores.  Thank you for the pictures and great review!

Thank you so much for the details and all of the pictures!  I feel like I just played with it.  I seriously wish they would get rid of those darn Ponyville accessories.  Why can't they come up with some new designs?   The castle does seem very true to the show, especially the pretty stained glass.  Very cool!

Did the plastic pieces fit together well? I remember that the castle I saw at the fair, the part at the very top didn't fit in all of the holes. Was it better with yours?

Also, congrats on the new playset, it's really cool looking.

Have the white parts been changed to lavender, or is that just the lighting?

3 feet tall! I don't think I'd ever get it just because it'd take up so much room! lol Looks great though. :D Thanks for sharing the pics.

Have the white parts been changed to lavender, or is that just the lighting?

Oh wow, you know, I never stopped to check! All of the "floor" pieces are shades of purple; the bottom and top floors are a darker purple, where the middle floor is lavender. I don't see any white on it. :( It also looks like that the railings (which are kind of a neon yellow) may have been intended to be more gold-toned in the prototype photos.

Did the plastic pieces fit together well? I remember that the castle I saw at the fair, the part at the very top didn't fit in all of the holes. Was it better with yours?

Also, congrats on the new playset, it's really cool looking.

They do fit together well! I was able to make everything "click" into their proper holes. The only issue I had was with the cardboard inserts; there was quite a bit of bending involved to get them in, and a couple of them are a little too large, resulting in a convex shape. >.<

The only issue I'm seeing, possibly, is with the little towers on top; when I bumped it, one of the smaller pieces came flying off, so they're not held on super firmly, compared to the rest.
