So do MOC-MIB Pones Develop Problems too?
« on: September 05, 2013, 11:24:08 AM »

.. Do they get cancer, pindot, rust, or other aliments even if they are left MOC/MIB?  Any supporting pics to show this happening?

Thanks!

Yes, unfortunately it does happen.  I have some with cancer and yellowing.  I think a lot of it comes down to environment, but some of it is that the toy is made of plastic, plastic does age, so some flaws are going to happen even if you have some in a temperature controlled vault.

Yes I have unfortunately experienced some sticky, greasy, leaked plasticiser ponies MOC as well as some with age spots/cancer!

Very sad:/

Yes and pigment leaching as well. :( To be honest the M in MIP/MOC can be a little deceptive. Sometimes NIP [new in packet] is more appropriate - a lot of collecting communities tend to use that rather than "mint".

For the G2 Unicorns w/ Magic Wings, keeping them MOC seems to make them get really sticky. I have a Golden Glow II MOC who looks to be sticky. And a Golden Glow I MOC who is sticky and the gold paint on her horn turned dull green.

There was one someone posted years ago that had stringy blackish-green mold growing inside the bubble and on the pony. I don't remember who posted that one, but eww! I believe she elected to free the pony from her moldy prison. ;)

I have a MOC international July what is not MOC anymore.
She got some brown sticky yucky thing in the face. So I took here out very very carefully and cleaned her, and let her dry completely. Now she is in her bubble again, halfway sealed. But what was the only way to save her I think.

Also had a Big Brother Pony whom got one regrind on the hoof. He is still home but on hold since I'm selling almost my hole collection.

They can still develop problems even while moc or mib :(

I once saw a moc Argentina pony who had a fly trapped in her bubble with her!

Unfortunately it may even speed up the process. Ponies are best preserved in an airy environment. Degrading plastics may release acidic vapors, creating a toxic microclimate inside the bubble.

The packaging itself can even have its own problems.  There are a lot of pictures of MOC ponies where the bubble has turned yellow.

Oh and the other thing which can happen with G1s certainly is the ink on the backcard can stain the ponies NDS over time :( I have a couple of Argie babies who suffer from that.
