MLP Nirvana / Is Mexican Moondancer safe to sun fade?
« on: September 30, 2022, 09:27:11 AM »
I'm considering buying a Mexican Moondancer, but she's going to need to be sun faded because she has sharpie on her. Does anyone know if she's the tanning type?

I love Novi Stars, I used to have some when I was younger. Sadly they went the way of all my childhood toys. Maybe I'll get some more.

Customs / Gloss top coat/sealant
« on: August 23, 2022, 09:37:42 PM »
I just finished painting my first custom and realized I don't know what top coat I should use. Does anyone have any recommendations? I used craft store acrylics like Apple Barrel and Folk Art so I want it to be semi glossy.

Try using shaving foam or gel to remove the stains. I saw this being done on The Repair Shop and the stain went away.

It’s best to leave it on and to get hard in the sun.

Then wipe it off with a wet cloth and if the stain is still there do it over again.

I did this to my used Rainbow High Cheer Violet Willow doll. And I’m going to do it on a pony.
Interesting! I never thought about using shaving cream on a pony or doll.

You shouldn't even need a cream for simple sunfading. Just patience. :)
I'm going to try sun fading her without cream first. If the stains don't come off then I'll try cream!

dont use acne cream what ever you do!!!!  people can use it on dolls but it is NOT FOR PONIES
I've seen what acne cream does, Salon 40 is definitely the way to go cream wise.

yep - agree on the don't use acne cream.  just good ol' UV like set the pony out on a sunny window sill during summer should be sufficient.  Take pics so you can see the before vs after :-) have fun restoring your pony!
Taking pictures is a great idea!

I've sunfaded orange ponies :) They do fine (except Party Time - never try to sunfade that one). Just remember to cover eyes and symbols and protect her hair.
Thanks, that makes me feel better! I've never sun faded a pony so I'm a little nervous, especially because of how bright she is.

Yep, this is the right forum!!

Might I ask which pony specifically it is? I think sun fading is the safest way to deal with the marker.
Sure, I just got her from a thrift store recently so I didn't know her name. It's Sea Breeze!

I'm pretty sure this is the right form to post this on. If not then sorry mods! I haven't tried anything yet, as I want to get some opinions from other collectors before I do anything. I've already looked on the preservation project and I think I'm going to have to sun fade her because the marker has really sunk into the plastic. Has anyone sun faded a bright orange pony? Do you have any tips to remove the marker without sun fading her? Any help is appreciated!

Hi, I'm pipsqueak! Ponies have been part of my life ever since I can remember. I got back into them a few months ago when some pony cleaning videos popped up in my recommended. After watching them for a few days, my interest in ponies was reinvigorated, so I decided I wanted to start collecting G1s. I currently have three G1 ponies: Lily (who is tragically missing her wings), Baby Stocking, and Baby Chuck E. Cheese. I look forward to adding more to my collection!
