What a haul! It's always super fun to find Pixietails stowed away in lots of toys with hair. Half the time sellers don't know what they are from or what to do with them!

I really am a bit of a chicken when it comes to photographing my toys any place other than the privacy of my home. I'd like to get a bit more adventurous when traveling, but I just don't know how you'd go about it. If you bring a pony on a road trip, what do you store them in? Do you bring a comb or something to protect their hair? A special camera? Any props? Do you just carry your pony in hand? What happens when you take a toy out in public? Do people stare, or mind their own business? Does anyone approach you? Do you take photos without caring, or real quick hidden ones when no one's around? Has anyone, stranger or otherwise, judged you for taking pictures of toys? What do you tell them if they ask about it? The biggest idea is to just go out there and take a toy with you, yes, but does anyone have a process for it? Do you only take tiny toys, bigger ones? Something to clean them off with when in nature? And if it's a long trip, how do you make sure you don't ever accidentally lose the toy? ...that hasn't happened to anyone here, has it? I guess these questions apply to any toy photographer, be it pony, doll, plush, anything!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I'll hold off sunfading for a bit to work on other ponies, but I will get around to it eventually! I won't use any chemicals or creams though! Store before sunfading (one on right is MO) visitors can't see pics , please register or login
After sunfading. visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Not sure why I only took pics of one side-must not have been as bad...
A special reminder about bleaching cremes... visitors can't see pics , please register or login
This looks very promising!

I recently got this Skyrocket, who's in pretty okay condition...except their former owner got carried away with the marker! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginThey've got lipstick and stars on one side. Not that the colors don't compliment the pony, but are Sparkle Ponies safe to sunfade? Do you think these marks will come out?

Limone got a body and a new pony is also using it as a base! I'm gonna have design at least two more body bases for the Lucky's and such aren't I. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginThis is Sundown, a pegasus I based off of the saying, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight! Red sky in morning, sailors take warning!" visitors can't see pics , please register or loginShe lives in a lighthouse and guides ships. The single different-colored hoof is based off of vintage Lanard ponies, I thought it was a cute trait. Also I suck at designing symbols ugh, it really is just G1 Sunburst's symbol....

That sucks. If and when I use someone else's image I try my best to either ask them first or at least credit the original by linking back to where I found it, but like you said images can get cycled around multiple times and it doesn't even link back to the original anymore, it's confusing. I know I'd be bummed out if I found one of my images used without permission or at least a source, but it really can't be stopped in this day and age, you're right. I use lots of pony images for my Pinterest and ghostofthedoll posts, and the vast majority are sourced in some way back to where I found them, but it's not flawless and I encourage others to let me know if they see their image and it's not sourced so I can fix it.

G3 has one of my favorite ponies though.
Is it okay to ask who it is? I realise it's not the point of the thread...
Haha, that's okay. It's Pretty Pop!

I use this straightener for pony hair, though it's a hand-me-down from my mother so it's probably a bit old/outdated. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginWhat helped in learning how to use it to fix pony hair is watching some tutorials of people doing it on YouTube! What I do is turn the straightener on, put the dial on the lowest setting (1, in the case of this straightener), and let it heat up. I brush the pony's hair out to the best of my ability before I work on it. Then I wet the pony's hair and wring out excess water so that it's just damp and not dripping before I run it through the straightener a few times. Even with the hair just damp the straightener might make sizzling noises as remaining water is pushed through to the hair ends and makes contact with the heat, this is nothing to be worried about but don't let it drip onto you. Then I brush, straighten, and repeat. I will say that I actually use a plastic comb rather than a metal one or a hair brush, but I'm sure what others use varies. I've never had a problem with accidentally melting pony hair before, but even on the lowest setting the clamps of the straightener will be quite hot! Don't touch them. The only time I've really worried about possible melting is with fakie hair, which is much lower in quality. Another thing I'd watch is potential contact of the hot straightener with the plastic or paint of the pony.
