That's crazy stuff!
I would just contact Hasbro customer service so that they are at least aware of the quality issues, and ask for a replacement. Who knows, can't hurt.
The easiest way to solve the tail problem would be to glue the roots together tightly into a tip small enough to fit the tail hole, and glue it back in place. You wouldn't be able to brush it anymore with pulling the tail out again I'm afraid, but at least she can go on display?
