Pony Corral / Storage Question
« on: June 19, 2021, 04:16:50 PM »
Heya!

So I'm moving soon, and the new house has less display space. Some things will inevitably have to go into storage. On that note, I've been wondering something about those big plastic storage containers: if the plastic the container is made from is a darkish color, can it stain ponies? For that matter, can it stain plushes?

Basically, I'm wondering if it's okay to store things in plastic containers of any color or if only white/clear ones are safe.

Pony Corral / Birthday Pony restoration questions

So, here's my Birthday Pony (standing on my shoddy old desk that could use replacing :P).

She was obtained several years ago at a yard sale. As you can see, her tail ribbons have almost none of their original curl and are quite stretched and crinkled in multiple places.

Can these be fixed? I'm guessing no, seeing as they're so stretched, but I haven't really worked with this kind of ribbon before. If they are unfixable, where might I find good replacements? Good color matches, the right width or very close, chrome on one side and matte-ish on the other--and of course, curling!

Pony Corral / Pony Life - Same set, differing hair quality/materials?
« on: January 16, 2020, 04:38:14 PM »
So today at Target, I found the first wave of Pony Life singles. I brought home one of each.

I'd seen photos and read reviews that mentioned higher quality hair for these ponies compared to the vast majority of reboot g4 singles. Consequently, I was actually pretty excited for these girls! I think hair quality can really make or break a brushable pony--after all, what good is making them brushable when the hair is no fun to work with?

I opened Potion Nova first, because heck yeah new characters, and I was instantly impressed with the hair. It really does feel a lot like early-wave g4 hair! It's soft, it's smooth, it has a good weight and volume to it. It has quality.

But the same can't be said for all the ponies of this wave.

Potion Nova, Applejack, and Fluttershy all have the super nice hair, comparable in quality to early G4s. Incredibly silky.

The hair on these two reminds me a bit more of the hair you'd find on the some of the ponies in some of the nicer reboot sets, such as this Rarity from the JCPenney Friends and Foe set. It's a bit lighter than what the three previous Pony Life girls have got, a bit more unruly, more prone to bad box hair and loose strands. Still nicer than the hair in most of the more recent singles, though.

And then... there's Pinkie. Her hair, while still kind of shiny, is significantly drier than the hair in either of the above groups. The ends are pretty frizzy, and the tail crunches audibly when pinched. It's basically the exact same stuff we got on most of the reboot ponies.

It seems odd that they'd cut corners on part of the set when the rest has good-to-excellent quality hair. For those of you who've bought/received ponies from this set: have any of you encountered more consistent hair quality with these girls? Any silky Pinkie Pies? Any straw-haired Fluttershies?

Pony Brag Arena / The old flea market does it again!
« on: November 24, 2019, 11:41:05 AM »
Yesterday, for the first time in a while, I went back to the flea market where I found my first G1 since I'd begun collecting again. There'd been ponies for a little while after that, but for the longest time since, they'd been in a serious drought--at least, whenever I happened to be there. :P

But yesterday was different! Found 3 G1s and 1 G3.

Spoiler

They're all in pretty nice condition! Fluttershy's only real issues have to do with her hair. The pink's faded, though that doesn't really bother me all that  much. The glob of rock-hard dried glue is another story.  :P

Without an elastic holding it in place, it sticks straight out like this. Any ideas on how to remove it without taking the hair with it?

Firefly! This is actually the first time I've ever owned her. Her symbols, while not perfect, still look really good; they have nearly all their glitter, with no rust and very little fading.

Sprinkles is new to the herd, as well! I'm hoping to get that forelock to face forward at some point.

And finally, Baby Gusty. I've never been overly put off by BBEs, but even so, actually having one in hand has given me all the more appreciation for them. In person, they're really quite lovely!

I'm super happy about her. My first BBE, and her eyes are rust-free!

All together, they were less than $10 dollars. It was a nice outing. ^.^

Pony Brag Arena / Another G4 Grail

Whenever I successfully finished writing a long, chaptered story, I'd get myself a reward of some sort. For finishing my latest, I got this:

I'd wanted her for a very long time, so I'm super glad to have her now. She absolutely does not disappoint; she's even prettier in person than in photos. Love those colors!  :lovey:

Pony Corral / Equestria Girls Classic Style version differences?
« on: December 29, 2018, 04:14:16 PM »
A bit late to the party, I know, but I've just started picking these girls up, and I'm wondering how many of them have the slightly fancier (earlier edition, maybe?) variants. The only ones I'm aware of at the moment are Pinkie Pie (glitter on yellow balloon on shirt, two bracelets instead of one), Sunset Shimmer (small braided/twisted section in hair, glitter on sun design on shirt, three bracelets instead of two), and Applejack (small braided/twisted section in hair, metallic apple design on shirt), but what about the other four? Have they got variants, too?

Also, how easy have the fancier variants been to find?

Went to Vintage Stock in Joplin today. (The big one, specifically.) Usually I find something good there whenever I go, and I expected this time would be no different.

What I certainly did NOT expect was to find all this:

At last.

That flash does her little swan buddy no justice, but I assure you that said swan is in excellent condition, as is Lily Blossom herself.

Anyway, she showed up here yesterday--I wasn't expecting her to arrive as quickly as she did, so that was a nice surprise. I'm very happy to finally have her!

Pony Brag Arena / Christmas and Post-Christmas Ponies!
« on: January 23, 2014, 03:04:57 PM »
A bit late on the former front, I know, but I had some Hot Cash among my presents, knew I'd be getting at least some ponies with it, and wanted to just post ALL the season's spoils in one go.

So, now that I can...

Here's most of what others got me, pony-wise. The EQG Twi has very nice hair with very well-behaving tinsel--is this tinsel the same style the Rainbow Power singles use, color notwithstanding? If so, I approve muchly; this stuff is much more manageable than the old Easter-grassish style.

The sound quality on the earbuds is, regrettably, not too happening. But they're cute, and one can never have too many spare earbuds/headphones, given the typical lifespan of the things.  :P

And here's what all I picked up for myself recently using the aforementioned Hot Cash, plus my own funds. So glad to finally find the Elements of Harmony Friends pack! Also pictured: pony stickers courtesy of my good friend from down south. Love 'em!

I'm partial to Noteworthy and Shenanigans, myself.  ^.^

Pony Brag Arena / About a week overdue, but here're my latest.
« on: November 26, 2013, 05:54:35 AM »
Every so often, I'll pop on over to Joplin and do some shopping there. More often than not I'll come back with ponies, and there'll frequently be a Target or Toys R exclusive among them on account of the fact that my hometown contains neither of these places.

This trip yielded both, plus a couple of additional goodies.

I cannot get over how pretty the glittery fashion styles are in person! This photo does not do them justice at all. I love the finer, more silvery glitter used on them and would have liked to have seen it used for the Pinkie Pie's Boutique glitteries too, but oh well. They're still pretty nice as well, even if Pinkie here is afflicted with the ol' straw-tail syndrome that's been cropping up of late.

I only noticed brushable Mrs. Cake's slightly wonky symbol there the day after. Oh well again. Still cute!

Introductions / Hey there. :)
« on: November 08, 2013, 05:52:08 AM »
Hi folks, I'm Poster. I'm 30, and while I had a few ponies back in the day (mostly petites), I've only really started actively collecting since about a year and a half ago.

I've got... hmm, maybe about a couple hundred now? Haven't really sat down to count 'em yet. Especially since that number just keeps on changing, heh. My collection is mostly G4 (and mostly blind bags--love the pretty little things!), with a scattered few G3s and 3.5s and a single solitary G1 in the form of the lovely Glory.

I have a G2 as well... sort of. Well, I found part of the poor girl out behind the local thrift shop one day, took her in, and gave her a new lease on life as... well, something else. Is she grateful? I'd like to think so!

Oh, and I've also got a li'l bit of a soft spot for fakies.

In addition to adding to my herd, I also enjoy writing, Minecraft, and a number of other things. I've been admiring this forum from afar for a bit, and I'm excited to finally be a part of it. I'll see y'all around! :)
