Wonky dolly mix?
« on: September 09, 2012, 11:01:39 AM »
Hi all,

So my local Tesco petrol station has randomly started selling Dolly mix (as selling it in the actual store next door would just be crazy), so obviously I bought some. However it seems a couple of them are so wonky I can barely get them to stand  :(

I have a Heart Throb and Minty who don't stand on the feet they are meant to, and have to lean precariously to stand, and Minty is particularly bad at this balancing act unfortunately.

It's odd as Shady is in the same pose as Minty and stand perfectly.

Anyone else had this problem??

yeah, my minty (who has a head/body mismatch) won't stand well either.

Heart Throb is in a sort of walking pose anyway, so it does seem like she has trouble standing sometimes! I think I have the comb slipped under a few of mine to help with the balance.

Clever idea, LadyGuinevere!  It's funny... I have several dolly mix ponies but haven't yet put any of them out for display yet as they are all still MIP.  Good to keep in mind in case I have trouble in future.

May I just ask because I'm curious. How old are the Dollymix ponies? Did they come out with the G1s and G2s they are modeled after? or are they a current thing?

I'm just asking since when I saw them I assumed they were old, but then seeing this thread I was all. "oooh not old because they are being sold" I'm so confused. >_<

Most smaller toys that are churned out like Blind Bags and Dollymix are very likely to have those kinds of manufacturing issues, unfortunately.  :(

At first I thought they were old, too.  I assumed they had to be since there are G1 dolly mix ponies.  But they are modern.  I read about them somewhere recently but now I can't find the page.  It's not much, but this link gives a little more info.: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Dolly_Mix

We had G3 dollymix which ran along side the core 7 g3.5 ponies roughly in time line and after those we got the g1 versions, the latter have been around for a couple of years now.

Tesco forecourts were one of the first places the G1 versions showed up - you usually find them and transformers bags in garages - they didnt seem to get a very long run inside Tesco stores, although you do still see them sometimes in Asda and Morrisons stores.

I think almost all of mine were questionable in their standing skills - I found a little bit of white blu-tac under one hoof holds them nicely in position and as they are only dollymix I am not too fussed on using this on them. But for no chemical interference I would suggest the propping up method LadyG mentions. :)

Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I'm thinking I should have kept them MIP. But at the same time I really wanted to display them. And wonkyness certainly scuppers that plan!

I'm liking that thought. I've been wondering where to put the combs!
