Customs / Customs (and more) from 2023

2023 was quite different from the former years.

It was the first full year of quitting from official custom commissions and is something I can easily adapt to as it is way less stressful and customizing feels like having fun again.
I realized own projects (like my resin stands for the G1 rearing ponies or customs that stay in my collection), discovered new art materials (pigments), restored some ponies back to former glory and did a few ponies for dear friends which were based on really cool ideas.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Your Nirvana wishes for 2024
« on: January 04, 2024, 04:30:09 AM »
Hi ponies,

What are your collecting wishes for 2024?

I would like to add Spanish Tex to my collection or get the pink or blue Argentina rainbow Starbow babies (I kept forgetting to bid on auctions so missed them a couple of times).

Love pkw xxx

Spanish Tex for me too!
My absolute want would be german Swirly Whirly.

I guess your wishes could be easily fullfilled. I can hunt for Swirly Annie as I'm from Germany and will drop you both a message when I see Spanish Tex the next time.

Mine is still Ami Ami - the blue/turquoise Takara Adult - which is the last one I need.

Customs / Re: What flocking to use and where to get it
« on: January 04, 2024, 04:23:39 AM »
Professional flocking is indeed a process you need to learn and more important to invest into - it is very cost intensive and we speak about 500€ + for the equipment. Furthermore, it needs a ton of practice and you'll easily face a lot of frustration during the learning process - I promise. The customs from blazenheartcustoms (Instagram) are top notch quality but to get them look like this - it took her multiple years to learn.

Patching bald spots will never look as perfect as the original job usually. You'll see and feel the "repairs" (speaking from own experiences).

You won't only need a static gun but also the correct fibers, working glue (with very specific ), a good working space for the process itself (which is incredibly messy) and more accessories to hold the pony parts, protect yourself from inhaling the fibers etc.

In case you don't plan to do more than 1 custom it's not worth the money to be honest (at least in my opinion). Maybe look into commissioning one - it will be cheaper.

If it matches, sure. I have to admit I hate to buy ponies with haircuts, even if it is just a bit from the tail.

You did a phenomenal job on this super cute train and I don't like G4s at all. But the work and detail that went into it is outstanding. You can be very proud on yourself!

oh man I so hope for a happy ending someday!

and you are not alone in the lost custom department

I commissioned a companion merpony for trillions neptune so I mailed neptune to  JPP as a helpmate in coming up with the custom pair and well she tragically passed and I have no idea where neptune is nowadays...

Her former partner tossed all her stuff in a storage compartment incl. a parrot custom for me and probably all my customs for her. But I don't think these still exist I guess.

There was no ff foot Piggy Minty. Only these two: visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The tails seem to be thinner than on regular ponies- you might want to steal
a bit of hair from another pony.

Piggies don't have a very thick tail, so you might not want to use tail hair. If it is Minty (white or brown hair), maybe invest in the search for some original pony hair (white/ off white) and get her restored accordingly. Her price is well worth it.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Questions about japanese takara ponies
« on: December 05, 2023, 02:53:28 AM »
Hi Luke,

Pinkkittywinks already got your covered with most of the knowledge. You find a lot of information on their own wiki page http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Japan as well as very well updated on https://www.ghostofthedoll.co.uk/mylittlepony-takara.php It's worth to check both out to get completely covered on the characters.

Adults:

Pinky - short hair /  - long hair/ - long reddish hair
Milky - short hair/ - long hair / - long reddish hair

Fuwa Fuwa
Sara Sara
Ami Ami
Kuru Kuru

Babies:

Lily and Popo

They were sold in 1985 only.
"In May 1984 Takara Tomy licenses its transforming robot toys to Hasbro, which releases them as Transformers in the United States, and
they became a major hit." (Excerpt from the Takara Tomy Brochure). In return, Takara Tomy receives the license for My little Pony from Hasbro.

My interpretation why there were only so few ponies sold in Japan:
All ponies at this time had a typical horse posture. Being on 4 legs with a brushable mane and tail.
Takara Tomy designed them in a standing - human-like posture similar to Sanrio's Hello Kitty figures (being invented in 1974). They are on two legs as well.
They had their Dress Up House = beauty salon (was released), a Pony Style House = living house (was not released) and a Dream Capsule = Wardrobe? (not released). I guess these buildings were to be released later in this century in case the ponies would sell more.

Their prices fluctuate a lot depending on supply and demand. The most common ones are Pinky and Milky with short hair. The most expensive ones are the "unusual colored" ones Fuwa Fuwa, Sara Sara, Kuru Kuru and Ami Ami, which seemed to have lower demand. The babies tend to be not common anymore as well. And Japanese people tend to throw away old toys rather than keeping them for their children or grandchildren.

Unless a lot of regular ponies being rooted with Nylon hair during this time - Takaras have a Saran-like hair, which was used for dolls at this time as well. It is kind of greasy and doesn't hold styles too well.

MIP Takaras age incredibly bad. Most of the girls featured cute hair stylings tied with rubber bands. Almost all of them disintegrated into the hair already, leaving brown stains on the hair, which is very to almost non-removable. That is why collectors tend to unbox them. I have mine unboxed as well (got 2 of them MIP).

In addition to the ponies, a badge as well as a fabric hankerchief was released featuring Pinky and Milky in SD format (or Lily and Popo). Both from 1985 as well.

There have been some advertisements/ comics on these ponies in the girls' magazine "Yayoi" (hope this name is correct). But these are very rare and are usually not able to be found online. The magazines are expensive as well (I paid 70€ on each of them).
