Saja, that Chief is gorgeous! Is that a base of Moonlight, or something similar? It looks really sparkly.
I've been wanting to test a theory - some people say that you can rehair with saran and nylon and they'll look the same, but I never really trusted that! I mean, they're so different! :P So I decided to test this theory with kanekalon, since 1) I'd never used it before, and 2) I wanted a kanekalon-haired pony! The hair colors I used are Mermaid (nylon, leftovers from another project) and Kaptivating Blond (kanekalon), both from Dollyhair.

I was able to fix Lemon Drops head-body mismatch with acetone. I just rubbed the body (it was darker than the head, just like yours) and I was able to "remove" the colour and in the end they were both same, lighter shade. I dont know why or how it happened, but I just know I was able to remove the "wrong" colour. You should try that! No guarantees that it will work, I havent been able to make it happen on any other ponies, but my Lemon Drop now looks pretty again.

This is not the best picture because her hair hides most of the neck.. But her body was MUCH darker than her head. It was easy to see. I just wanted to try if I could remove some marker spots from her body, and realized the cotton I used turned yellow. I just kept rubbing her body with it, and all the "extra" colour came off and the body ended up the same colour as her head. It was weird, it almost felt like the colour had leaked out of the plastic or something, and made it look darker.

The yarns that i've been using for the multi colored blends, is actually a multi colored/dip dyed skein of yarn. I think the brand is called Charisma or something like that?
Where do you buy it? At a big name store or...? Like I said my resources are pretty limited, found out the closest Michaels to me is in Kentucky, lol and I'm in Illinois... :huh:

She is getting sunlight as her top area (where there is normally tinsel) to match a theme for the second set princess re-hairs.

It is really beautiful. I think the prettiest colours for re-hair are those that pick up the other colours on the pony (like Ice Rarity :heart:) but it's hard to know, sometimes unexpected things work.
I think the hair colours are so great here for several reasons (1) because they match the other elements on the pony - body (violet), eye (Cyan) and jewel (purple, gold) colours (2) they also include the missing colour in the 'rainbow' which is dark blue, to create harmony (3) gold works here as an opposite colour (orange-yellow) to the blue and purple which makes the finished pony look really special. The gold against the body colour is exquisite so perfect to start with it at the top of the mane.

Even though I went to the hobby store for something else, I ended finding this wonderfully ridiculously neon yarn of the same brand that would be perfect for rehairing some of my deflocking projects as a perfume puff style...

The yarn is use is Hometown USA and I find it at Walmart, unfortunately, I have very limited colors... it's by Lion Brand but there are others you can find at like, craft stores. I just don't have access to many of those myself...

first thing i thought of when i saw this pony was my primary school - it's colours are purple and yellow - so yes, very school spirit-y for me too!!! (and brings back horrible memories of wearing a yellow turtleneck and purple knitted jumper....)
Hope nobody minds another PP. I have 4 NSS ponies that their hair was gone and flocking was disgusting, but body and symbols are beautiful. Now I think I may rehair them all like this. The first I got done was Wind Whistler, the yellow is really much more neon/eye bleed inducing in person.I like this a lot loose, she looks like she fits into the rockin beat pony group...give her a guitar now, love it

I bought some yarn to have a go, but when I brushed it out the fibers were only long enough to rehair a baby pony. How do you make sure you've got a yarn that will have nice long fibers? :huh:
Whippy, on the yarn front, I dunno... I have had terrible luck finding good yarn to use... nothing as soft and fluffy looking as what MiRaja's looks like though!!

Here's my newest rehairs. My camera isn't so great, but the Valentine's twin as 2 different pink colors. I decided to go monochromatic with Blossom. Her hair has a nice highlight effect with different purples and white.

Thanks Jenny - That poor Daddy is really in played with condition... if you can't tell from the photo - he's much more "peach" than "pink" anymore, tons of ingrained dirt and his symbols have all faded to just blue (no more purple in there) so, it was really hard for me to come up with something for him... I personally haven't fallen in love with him yet :blush: so I think he's going to try and find a new herd, lol

Hmmmm I'm thinking about trying to track down a rehair prospect Sugarberry....
Since the SS Sundance I got in a recent Lot had a really baity body I decided to make her a PP as well. ;) She has lightly berry scented hair. Rehaired with Red Heart yarn I got from Walmart about three to five years ago. :P Finally a good use for a mass of it. Not great pics but it gets the point across until I finally do. ^.^ Revel in her mass of soft, wavy locks! (It's after 1am and I'm drunk on Tired. :zzz:)

Finally my camera batteries are charged... finished a new sea pony and a Gusty... and did a couple rehairs for friends (but they aren't alternate) - been busy but, now my baits re lacking. Seems when I have plenty of hair, I have very few baits and vice versa, so I'm hair heavy and bait light - if anyone has any baby baits (not BBE, but maybe BBE because I want to mess with changing their eyes...) please let me know. :P

I actually have a hard time with many of the TE ponies... I really like a lot of their original factory colors. Maybe change one or two stripes for some of them, but when I get a TE bait, I have to let it sit bald for a while before I can start seeing it outside the box... :biggrin: Like, right now I have a Wizzer who is waiting for new hair... just looking for something new because she's REALLY one who I LOVE her original colors... :biggrin:

Cut all your hair to the desired length before rehairing and you'll get a much more natural looking outcome. Just hold the hair at the top of the pony's head to get an idea of the length you like then cut all the hair you are going to use to that length.

I've been a rehairing machine the past few days. The weather has been crappy around here so there wasn't a whole bunch else to do! :)

The glue tends to be stronger on the neck. Pull really hard, dip them in boiling/hot water or carefully use an exacto to open the neck seam a bit. One the seam is open some it can be easier to then pull off the head but not always.
Rehairing goes pretty much the same.

Okay I have to ask, where do you guys get SO many baits?! It is so hard for me to find ponies with bad enough hair but relatively nice bodies for rehairing!I customise a lot, so I hoard baits! I actually have a whole wall full of stack boxes. I go thru when I feel like it, and what ever cannot be restored, or rehaired, is customised! Anything that can be restored, is. anything that just needs hair, just gets hair. I buy a lot from here and also ebay!

I think we should compile a book! from A- Z for alternate rehairs, whos up for it? Id like to collect them to compile, so feel free to send me your photos to add to the book, either by pm, or email what ever is easier. I think it would look so great to show everyones variations of ponies, as there are a few here that we have all done our own versions of! Most likely will be a work in process for along time tho, as were all still bitten by the rehair bug. Let me know your thoughts!

Aww thanks Steffers :blush: you can get hair from RetroDollsUK that has tinsel blended in its called Fizz. I used Pink Fizz and Minty Fizz on Posey. I think it just adds a little something. I'm planning on doing a seasons set of Posey and this one is Spring :biggrin:

I would be sooo tempted to create the gallery site with blogger. :blush: I actually started modelling it up and it would work well with tags. Adding each pony to its own post would make it possible to add detailed info as text in the post, and tagging the post with pony name, artist, generation, body type, set etc etc would make it possible to browse the posts by certain criteria in addition to just scrolling the posts chronologically. It would need Flickr or similar gallery to have a good quality basis for the photos, but the organizing and scrolling through the photos could be easier on blogger.
So if someone would be willing to keep the photo gallery up and running, I could make a blogger based "homepage" and keep that updated. :)

Or then I could just start the thing up all by myself and take someone along to help me if the work load starts to get overwhelming. :P Just need you guys to give me your blessing, you being the artists and all... :blush:

I am so obsessed with that TTT XD
I would suggest using Flickr. We could create one Flickr account and then within that separate sub folders "Pegasus", "Unicorn", "Baby" "Big Brother" "G4" etc.
There are then 2 options. Either everyone who wants to take part has the username and password to the account and you upload your own images to the requisite folder - at the same time you can tag the photograph with your username in order that people know the source. Or perhaps a half dozen or so people only have the username and password - they are responsible for uploading and tagging the images. I like the latter idea better because its more controllable. There is also nothing stopping people who become more active being involved in uploading but it means a restricted number of people accessing the account which will prevent confusion. People who wish their images to be added can simply pm one of the members who has access to the account and have their pictures added.
When I start a new thread - when this gets to 100ish pages - I can include in the first post a link to the "Alternate Rehair Gallery" as well as the IDs of the users who have access to the account to upload.
A couple of conditions would need to be made on this:
1) I am so sorry but I simply don't have time to run this myself; I am happy to over see it, start it up and allocate the members who will have access to it - but you guys would nee to pretty much run it. I ll happily be the middle woman if someone wants to drop out or someone else wants to have access to the account but the rest needs to be run by you all. :)
2) It would not be an "official" Arena run account it would need to be member run; I am volunteering to help because I can edit the title posts of threads like this.
3) I would suggest you use it as a back reference - mainly so that when people delete there pictures there is perhaps still a reference for them off thread. And that you all continue to post your amazing re hairs in this thread!
Just let me know here if thats something you want to try.

That being said, I am having trouble with rehairing some of my g1s. I'm not pushing hard, I've been using a push pin, and I'm not using super large needles or large plugs of hair, but I'm having the plug rows split, and whole rows get messed up. I'm wanting to sell some of the ponies, but I don't want to sell them in that condition (I know they likely would be loved anyway, but still). What am I doing wrong?

I can manage keeping a blogger site up to date if the image gallery in the background is off my hands. :) No problem for me going through the newest photos few times a week to keep the site updated. :awake:

Ughh so I was rehairing and I'm almost done the pony and I do a once over and the middle row all split :enraged: I'm sooo mad and I have no idea why it happened!! I used all the same stuff and the same plug sizes...how frustrating!

Do you guys use a rehairing tool or the old fashion needle and thread? I use a needle and thread and having split a hole in a long time. The only time I've actually had them split is when I've removed the old hair sometimes the glue and the hair and blah rip a plug hole. It's frustration, but I dunno with my needle/thread I haven't had an issue with actually rehairing them despite a few ripped plugs here and there. Usually it's not a big enough crack to mess with the knots I make, and I kinda cross the plugs, so they don't come out anyway. ^.^
I'm being lazy so linking. Like I did before none of my rehairs are super extreme since I prefer to rehair the original colors, but I did do a few sort of different ones lately.
Childhood Cherry Treats in Water Nixie and Cherry Pie. The mane is two part blend Cherry and one part blend WN. I should blend the tails a bit more like I do the manes. Oh well!
I'm actually not sure I like this on her even if it matches her symbols.

This is the Wind Whistler I got from Radiance in the Halloween swap. She is deflocked and rehaired in a mane blend of bobby blue, wysteria and heart throb. I like her better than CT. Mane is evenly blended on this one

Hey Saja do you make those wings yourself? After receiving my first ever custom wings I've been fascinated by them. If you do make them are they difficult to do? They add so much life and personality to the flutters and wingers people put them on :)Yes I make them, it just takes time, certainly Not hard at all! I agree they look so much nicer with wings!

Errrrr I dunno about my GITD? It doesn't feel like the other polyhair I have but it's way more cotton-y feeling than most of the nylon hair. It's from... MyLittleCustoms I think... if that helps?

I just did my first alternate rehair. This girl had a sad buzz cut and instead of giving re-hairing her in a matching pink I thought I'd take the plunge and draw from her symbol colors and give her candy cane curls:

I bought this baby glory as part of a bait lot, I always give all the ponies spa treatment and magic eraser treatments to see if they are salvageable, so her body cleaned up really great, she came to me bald so I decided to give her a rehair in Adult Glory's colours but in reverse :) A fabulous addition to our Baby Glory army ^.^

Bowtie was purchased as a bait and she was in horrific shape, she had been drawn all over, she was filthy and completely bald. I cleaned her up and gave her some gorgeous hair and *poof* she's a knockout now ;)

Rarity is our Army pony so I thought she'd look fabulous with much darker hair, so I rehaired in Death by Bougainvilla, painted her symbols in teal glitter and gave her a necklace, now she's the belle of the ball :D

Okay I took a quick shot, sorry it's in the sunlight so the shadows are awful... it stops just a bit short of her other two rows but, definitely is like, pretty much a full row. The outside row (closest to NDS) was the yellow row, if I remember correctly.

That's a cute idea, I'll definitely have to mess around with colors for her. I usually take all their hair out and let them sit with me for a while until I can kinda "forget" their factory hair. Especially hers, to be perfectly honest I am -not- a fan of Rosette from the factory, lol...

That's an excellent question! I've heard embroidery tinsel works well but I haven't had a chance to looks at Michael's if they have any.

I used Sulky Silver Metallic that I bought at Joann (in the thread section) on the Mimic I recently did. The only problem I found was it comes on a spool and has a tendency to stay curly. Not sure how to straighten it out without damaging it.
