Is this weird? I don't know if it's weird!
« on: November 14, 2012, 05:10:01 PM »
So I was talking about g2s recently, and that was because I'd purchased 26 on ebay! And they arrived today!

And BOY are they in need of some TLC.

But what's got me excited *is* doing all the cleaning and mane work. I haven't had a big project like that in years! I just need to make sure I have the right kind of hair stuff on hand and I can get started!

I'm thinking now it's not weird, considering how much of you love doing pony spa, but it's been a heckuva long time for me.

Also, you may notice some doubles in there. I'll be prepping those for selling.

ALSO, what's the right setting on a curly iron for pony hair? I don't want to melt the frizzy ones.

Pony spa days are my favorite pony days. I spend more on my ponies' appearances than I do my own!

-grabby hands at doubles-

I've never used the iron on my ponies hair, but I'd say the lowest setting you can possibly manage so that it doesn't melt the hair.

I think most of the doubles are pretty common, although there's two Juniors, which is neat. She's the reason I bid on the auction in the first place.

It's not weird at all to me; it's almost like a way of "bonding" with my ponies. Okay, now that sounds weird when I say it out loud. After all the time and effort I spend brushing and styling a pony's mane, it makes it much harder to part with her, and I'd probably choose her over a minty, pre-styled or MOC version any day. I'm such a sentimental changeling...

I love pony spa! My dad actually just commented to me. "I didn't know ponies got dirty sitting on shelves"

I laughed. He doesn't know about upkeeping with pony. Dust is the enemy! And hair constantly needs conditioned.

Congrats by the way. I'm super jealous of all those G2's!

It's not weird at all. I'm actually quite jealous of your big project, when all I got to do is one sun fade (which is taking forever because it's so dark in here during winter) and two rehairs. That's why I would very much like to buy some big lot of ebay and just clean and sell all the ponies.

It's not weird! I would caution against the curling iron/straightener though. Some people swear by those, but it can be easy to melt hair on the older gens.

I find that saturating the hair with conditioner, combing out the tangles/frizz, then leaving the conditioner in overnight can work wonders. Then in in the morning I rinse it out and style!

I have found G2 hair to be the hardest to work with though.

I will definitely try your tips.

Oh, so many, I can see the excitement! I'm not super into the pony-spa myself anymore (we moved twice in the past few years and have a toddler so free-time has dwindled and I feel like I need to get the house in order first, poor ponies are sitting on in the display patiently waiting for now). I can see how getting them all clean and pretty would give a wonderful sense of accomplishment. I can't wait to see your after-pics! Congrat's on your lot and have fun!

Cleaning ponies and other toys makes me feel like I've given them a new life, almost. :) But boy howdy that is a big lot to clean!

Not weird at all. Spa days are great - my kids love to "help!"

Curling and flattening irons seem to be a mixed bag of opinions.
I have and inexpensive Revlon flat iron that I can put on level 3 or 4 for my super frzzy ponies. Work smoothly and rather quickly in very small sections... At least, that is what I have had success with.   :satisfied:

Have fun!

I like to clean my ponies when they need it, or clean the dust on my cabinets. That relax me a lot! I only use the hairdrier in some ponies, always respecting their factory curl.
