Hi ponies,
I never had Moondreamers as a child and didn't see the cartoon either, but this hasn't stopped me from falling in love with them :P
I've got Roary, Ursa Major, Ursa Minor and Crystal Star (her hair has faded to blonde)
I'd love to see your Moondreamers collections :D

My Moon Dreamers are currently in storage, due to lack of space so I can't share pictures but I do have the big purple Moon Dreamers Central (I forget the real name of it) and Roary and Ursa Major and I think six of the dolls. Most of the dolls were found at thrift shops. I only had two to play with growing up and I'd have to look them up to tell you which ones they are. One had pink hair (I think she was supposed to be the leader) and the other one was smaller and blonde.

I love the Moondreamers! I love the playsets too- especially "Starry up"
Here is a picture of some of my loose stuff- my big sets are way too big so are being stored at my sister's house, alas

At some point I discovered Stefanie Eskander the "sample maker" (the one who makes the actual prototypes) for the 2nd year Moondreamers dolls (the ones that didn't actually make it out)- these ones:

She is super nice! She also designed "Moonglow" for the Rainbow Brite series, and the Lama from Jem-
She shared with me this photo of her desk from those days- on it was a toy she designed that never made it to production for the Moondreamers line- it was called the "Cosmic Cafe"- neat isn't it! (she doesn't have the sample- it is just a picture of her desk back when she worked on it) sadly, she hasn't seen any of the 2nd year Moondreamers dolls since back in the day when she worked on them. SO SAD! I guess it is rare for sample makers to have their own samples...

I have a couple! none of the dolls unfortunately but I have a long eared thing and a round thing with a propeller on its head.
I loved the dolls as a kid but not for very long so I dont really remember much about them except that they come with jewellery that kicked off a life long love of aurora borealis coloured crysatals for me

These are lovely. I'm sometimes tempted by them. I'd love to have Whimzee and Ursa Major and those egg thingies with the flashlight that work for Queen Scowlene. What are they called again?

Oh I LOVE Moondreamers! I had Crystal Starr as a child and my sister had Bitsy and Roary. I have them now since she doesn't collect. I don't have any pics since they are in storage. I will be working on collecting these once I finish my strawberry Shortcake collection.

Your collection is so cute apanda ^.^
Are there any variants of any of the Moondreamers? :)
Love pkw xxx

Re question way above- those "egg" looking critters with the flash lights are called "Sleep Creeps" - they're super cute... flocked all over just like a So Soft pony (Dozers are the hippo looking guys)
There are just a few variants- apparently somewhere in the UK, some Moondreamer dolls may have come on blister packages rather than in boxes. I've never actually seen one.
There is ONE variant doll known- it is Blinky (who usually has pink pigtails) who comes with BLUE curly hair like Whimzee instead. I THINK I discovered the first one (back when ebay was new) on the UK ebay. Since then, she has popped up several more times, which makes me think that some country somewhere must have released a batch of them this way. Pretty clearly a factory mistake- (or possibly they were made at the end of the series when Hasbro ran out of pink hair and just used blue to use up the leftovers- they did something like that with various Jem dolls so why not MOondreamers?)
There are some pictures of her on the now defunct moondust4moondreamers- site- (not my site but I donated the pictures SO long ago). It was so long ago that I actually got those pictures with a SCANNER (yes that is how we did it back then kids, lol)

I collect Moondreamers, but mine are all in boxes right now. I also have the cartoon on DVD! Sorry I can't post the link where you can buy it, since it's technically a bootleg (but a really high quality one!).

Ringwraith ive watched some of the cartoons on YouTube :) they are cute!
Galactica thank you for sharing  I too remember when people scanned stuff :P I recall how it could appear to alter colours too. That Blinky is sweet with blue hair. It would hardly surprise me if she was either a factory fluff up or that they ran out of pink hair :P

I'm not an avid collector but I do have a few :) including the UK ver of Blinky:

(sorry for the blurry photo! ^^;)
They're very sweet, I love the animals in particular! I'd love to get Ursa Minor and Galaxia (I think that's her name?) one day :) I wish they'd made those prototype animals.. omg and the Cosmic Cafe looks so cool, I've never seen that before! Thanks for sharing Galactica :)

Thank you for sharing that picture Carrehz :) you have got the blue haired Blinky!

I do know someone on ghost of the doll did find hornsby the ram there, in the prototypes pics, but the peacock, bunny, and puppy, have never been found. I wish they had been made though, I do have ursa major, and roary. I do have tow of the flocked trio and am looking for one of them still.
-
You have a lovely collection Sukey :) thank you for sharing.
Wow! Most prototypes tend to get thrown away unless their creator takes them home.

Thank you, pinkkittywinks!
There are so many beatific prototypes that I wish they had made.

Your collection is lovely, Sukey! <3
aaaa I'm so jealous of whoever found Hornsby, he's one of my favourites out of the prototypes XD I wish they'd been produced, they're so beautiful..

I love seeing your collections! I am always tempted by Moondreamers, they are such cute toys, especially the pets! I would to have Ursa Major, Ursa Minor and Roary. And those prototypes are to die for! :lovey:

I've been going through some of my boxes and found the remnants of my childhood Moon Dreamers. Crystal Starr and Bitsy are sadly missing but I still have their outfits, some fashions and Rory. I used to have the other 2 fashions as well but they are probably long gone with the Barbie stuff. I had a hard time finding info on the fashions but found them pictured here http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:Moo-fashions.jpg

It still amazes me that I was able to remember what went with which toy lines and kept things together for the most part. I think a lot of my stuff got mixed in with the Barbies which my mom got rid of or some went to my niece. Anyway, I'm happy to still have these fashions because I think they would be impossible to find nowadays. Now to work on collecting the dolls.
-
Wow, I had no idea there were fashion packs for Moondreamers! They're lovely :)
-
I had no idea there were fashion packs either, thank you for sharing that Shy Violet.
I added Dream Gazer and Bitzy to my collection last week ;)

There were no licencedfashion packs for the Moondreamers dolls-
There were fakie fashion packs created by another company obviously created for and made to fit the Moondreamers dolls. The picture above shows some original fashions from the dolls, and some fashions from that knock off company. The company that did the knock off stuff also made fashions for popular dolls like Rainbow Brite and Lady Lovelylocks.
The knock off stuff is harder to find than real Moondreamers stuff I've found.

Oh, that's interesting! I didn't know they were knock offs. I always thought they were Moon Dreamers outfits growing up and I've had a lot of trouble finding any info on them. Is there anywhere that has info on these knock offs? I had a knock off that looked like Blinky and Ursa MIB but I can't find them in my boxes so I'm worried they got lost in the move and I can't find any info on them.

But yeah, just because they are knock offs or not official/licensed doesn't mean they aren't special- they are super hard to find!

I tracked down the fashions, they are in the '87 Sears Catalogue. I think they are unrelated to the knock off doll that I had though. Wish there was some info on the doll but I can't find anything on that. I'm really hoping I didn't get rid of it, I can't seem to find it in my boxes. :( I do remember I was upset when I realized it wasn't the real Blinky and Ursa.

Wow! I'd love to see pictures of the fakie Moondreamers at some point.
It hardly surprises me to hear there are fakies, since there are fakies of almost all the popular 80s toys.

I actually had the variant one from new (my only Moondreamer doll, lol). I can't remember the packaging, but she was definitely sold as Blinky, as that confused me no end in the comics. I do still have her and most of the bits she came with if not all.
Found this old pic of comparing her with a variant princess (hair colour is slightly different, but consistency was the same)

Interesting- yes that is definitely her. I had assumed she was sold as Blinky but nobody could ever confirm. I assume an entire batch probably got out of the factory and wasn't caught by QC- or possibly they ran out of pink glow in the dark hair near the end of the production so were forced to finish the line with blue hair. It's interesting though that most of the blue haired Blinkys are found in the UK

I adore Moondreamers! Grew up watching the cartoon and wishing I could be a space princess with glowing hair XD I so want to start a collection, but I'm so picky about the condition of dolls & their clothing. :c
