Did Durham Industries have anything to do with Hasbro?
« on: April 16, 2017, 12:04:22 PM »
Hi Everyone,

So just as the subject suggests, does anyone know if one company has anything to do with the other?  I tried the Google and couldn't find anything about the history of DI, but I did find a link to an old EBAY listing for a MLP sewing machine that has Durham Industries and Hasbro on it circa 1984.

I'm wondering if DI ever made a riding pony on wheels that had anything to do with My Little Pony, circa '86 or so? I know they had released a toy called "Tony the Pony" (again from an old Ebay link) but I don't think it has anything to do with MLP, I would just like clarification if anyone knows for sure!

I had tried the search on the forum here because I was positive someone had bragged that they got this neat little riding plastic pony on wheels, but the search function doesn't seem to like me.

I really do appreciate any help anyone can give!  Thank you!  :inlove:

Hasbro would let other companies make licensed products of MLP, which is probably the connection.  :)

An example would be, let's say you have a pencil company.  You think your pencils would sell better if they had popular cartoon characters on them.  So pay Mattel some money and they let you put Barbie on pencils.  Then you go to Hasbro and pay them some money and they let you put MLP on your pencils.

There IS a ride on pony, like for a toddler, but I can't recall if they are made by that company or not; I'll pomr through a search

Well thanks for the input guys!  I'm asking because there's a "vintage mlp" for sale and it's pink and has wheels, and has the stamp Durham Industries, but not Hasbro.
If it's not MLP related than I'm not interested, but I'm so clueless when it comes to merch that a one in a lifetime snag could be right in front of me and I wouldn't know it!
I think it's the sewing machine that said both company names that's throwing me, I'm sure this riding plastic pony is not MLP...I hope  >_<

The thing I'm remembering is a toddler ride on shaped like a pony, with a long handle it was available in pink with blue details or blue with pink details, and 3 round stickers with hearts on them on each side...I want to say it was only in Europe?

Ibe been searching for it, but havent found pictures yet.

EDIT found a pic of the box, thanks to google and an old ebay auction:

Yes! Holy crap you found it! That's what I was thinking of, but the one I was looking at sure wasn't in that good of shape... Kind bummed though, all of this has been for nothing, the ad for it is gone  :(
I really do appreciate your help, and I'm just going to keep telling myself it wasn't genuine MLP...
