Pony Corral / Who signed this Pinkie Pie?
« on: September 30, 2018, 01:23:33 PM »
I think I bought her from here but it was a few years ago and I can't remember who from or find the messages or sales thread. I'm gonna guess it was 2014/2015 and I want to say she was autographed by a voice artist. Pinkie's hair was styled to look more like it does in the cartoon as well.

Any ideas?

Trixie body/head w/ fluttershy symbol 'Holly Blue' oddball

And some regular G4 which I think are slightly harder to find. Please assume mint and complete, I'll price down accordingly. I do have the friends. :)

Pony Corral / Nooo not the ponies!
« on: August 05, 2018, 09:30:35 AM »
4 years ago I culled my collection and sold the vast majority off. I moved in with my now-husband and the ponies sat in their moving boxes (barring a handful of customs on display and post-move purchases). I decided to sell off the remainder, barring one custom and my only actual childhood pony. I need the money, we want the space, and honestly I've had zero interest in them for the past few years. Time to start prepping for PonyCon, it'll be here before I know it.

G2-G4 not a problem. But when I opened the box of G1s it was 'maybe I'll keep you.. and you.. and I can't get rid of you'.

Seriously, these ponies proper get a hold on you don't they?! I'm going to be sat behind my stall sneaking ponies back under the table so they don't sell.

Anybody else get like this?

I think I paid around the $250 mark plus shipping a few years ago. She is very hard to get hold of, but maybe there aren't that many people trying to get hold of her?

I actually tried to sell her last year and although she did sell for the asking price, the buyer changed their mind so I still have her. I remember thinking how tricky it was to get decent photos of her!

Thanks for the input both. I think pricing customs is always difficult, even when you're the maker and you finished it yesterday! I didn't really sell many of my own (I was always too attached) if any so I don't have much practise plus I'm well out of the loop.

Obviously some of these customs didn't have a specified value when I received them, and others I won't remember what I paid. I am not out to make a big profit on somebody else's work, but at the same time I am selling for both space and money so I don't feel that I can just let them all go for free. It's a tricky one. As I'm not initially looking to auction the customs - I am taking my collection to UKPC and will sell the remainder online, either fixed price or via auction - that means I need to determine what I believe to be fair prices. I would agree that in many cases I've had the use of the custom over the past X years therefore it's devalued, but then there are others that I know will probably fetch a higher price than I paid for them.

What's even harder, is if the original customiser wants the custom back and it was through a swap. How do you work out what's fair in that situation?! My gut feeling before posting was to try and contact the swap customisers at a minimum so I'll potentially be in this situation a few times over.

Edit: Where my head is at currently is that I can't pay the shipping (that defeats one of the objectives I'm trying to achieve) and I feel that at a minimum the packing materials and time taken to do that should be covered. I'd love to give the customs back for free but that just isn't feasible, yet I feel bad saying 'you have to pay me for the thing that you made' even though I understand that I kind of paid for them too!

Pony Corral / PC please: G3 Giant Blank

Ms Blank (approx 16" tall) has not had a hair cut to the best of my knowledge, her hair is still soft and she has no major marks. She does have some yellowing around the neck seam, eyelids and ear tips.

I hope to sell her at UKPC in October so postage shouldn't be an issue.

I bought her with the intention of customising her a couple of years ago but it's never going to happen (to the relief of many I imagine ;)) and she currently lives in our spare wardrobe to avoid a) the cats and b) the sun.

Any idea on her current value?

Customs / Selling customs & original artists
« on: June 15, 2018, 11:18:45 AM »
This year I am selling off my collection including customs. I have some that I received in custom swaps, some that I received in non-custom swaps, some that I bought and some that I commissioned. I believe they're almost all from 2009-2014 so nothing recent.

What's the current thinking around notifying the original artists?

PayPal Credit and Pay After Delivery are two different things. Both are in effect a line of credit, but PayPal Credit is I believe akin to a credit card (often with a promotional 0% interest period) whereas Pay After Delivery is entirely interest free.

Pay After Delivery has been available in the UK for quite a long time, however it is not offered to every buyer and even then not on every transaction although I'm not certain what the criteria are. The process in the UK is that you make your purchase, paying via PayPal and choosing which bank account will be subsequently billed. It's worth noting that PAD never utilises your PayPal balance, even if you have sufficient funds at the time of billing. You also need a 'back up' funding source against the bank account. 14 days after the transaction, PayPal bill your bank account. In the mean time, the seller was paid immediately by PayPal and your item has hopefully arrived.

Like Tulagirl, I typically 'pay early' once I've received whatever I've bought. However I always enter the transactions (one to the seller from PayPal, and then the transfer between my bank account and PayPal) into my budget so I'm not caught out.

PAD is particularly useful if you're ordering multiple sizes of clothing from a retailer to return some - I do this a lot with swimwear for example, placing a £200ish order then returning £150ish of it for a refund before PayPal charge my bank account, meaning I don't 'spend' more than the £50 - or if you know you have money coming in in a week or so but want to order whatever it is now so it arrives on time (or because you're impatient). I bought my sister's birthday present using PAD because there was a sale on and I didn't want to miss out on the offer, but I didn't want to actually take the cash from my bank account for another week when I knew I was about to get paid. For me personally, PAD is not exclusively available on eBay purchases but sometimes it's not there when I'd rather it was, either.

I haven't heard anything about the service being stopped in the UK. I suspect from PayPal's point of view, it encourages people to use PayPal over other payment methods if they have that bit of leeway.

Pony Corral / Where's best for current price checks?
« on: April 07, 2018, 07:09:10 AM »
Long time no speak :)

I am intending to sell off the remainder of my collection this year. I have a mix of G1-G4 but am completely out of the loop on pricing. I would say I haven't actively collected for about 4 years now.

The price-check archives on here appear to be somewhat dated/not in regular use. Are completed listings on eBay still good to use for guidelines? Have things changed much in the last 4 years? I am hoping to sell at UK PonyCon, so in person, which I appreciate can affect pricing.

I don't want to spam the forums asking for a ridiculous number of price checks!

There are vintage Butterick G1 My Little Pony patterns which, as far as I know, are a match for the officially produced G1 plushies.
