Anyone here do doll re-hairs?
« on: August 26, 2019, 05:54:06 PM »
My toddler has a Melissa and Doug Natalie doll that she loves.  The hair is pretty low-quality, though, and has gotten quite ratty.  I've conditioned and combed it a couple times, but nothing seems to improve it much.  I'm toying with the idea of having it re-haired with some better hair and am looking at possibilities/options.  How long would it take?  How much would it cost?  Anything else I should take into consideration?  Thanks!

personal experience, just rehairing a monster high doll seemed to take forever for me, and I think it took 3-5 hanks of hair, just for that... I'm used to ponies with their two rows of plugs xD

I would assume a doll that size would take a TON of hair, and even more time. It would probably be cheaper in both time and cost to just buy a new doll. IMO

Years ago I turned a Disney Toddler Aurora doll into a Toddler Mulan doll (this was before they ever made a toddler Mulan) for my niece.  If I remember right it did take a while, but I use the knot/loop method of rehairing, not a rehairing needle, so I had all the hair plugs made up ahead of time and just sat down with some movies and worked on it.

As others have said, rehairing a doll that size would take several hanks of hair and be very time-consuming. Might I suggest a wig for her? it might be a cheaper option that you could do at home. :)

For a fashion doll (like Barbie size) it generally costs between $70-90 for a re-hair. Plus shipping each way.  Definitely not cheap.

As rehairing a doll this size is time-consuming and expensive indeed, I'd second kCherry's idea about getting a wig. I'm not familiar with AG dolls, but I've read there are lots of options/shops available for them, it would come out way cheaper, and if you don't glue it on the doll's head, you could get more than one and then it could even add to the play value that the doll can change hair colour (you could e.g. get a regular and a fantasy-coloured wig, which would be great for magical/fairy playtime :) ).
