Removing stickers from book covers?

I've heard that you could use a hair dryer to remove stickers from book covers. Is this true? Has anyone tried it? Is there anything else you can use?

Goo Gone is a good product for non-paper but I would use a hairdryer to loosen a sticker on paper, followed by some isopropyl alcohol to remove the stickiness.

Steam works too. It's what I've used to unstick animation cels from their sketches too. You let a kettle heat up and (VERY CAREFULLY!! You don't want a scald!) put it over the steam coming out.

True, the steam method works great for loosening stamps if you're a stamp collector.

Yeah, id just be careful you don't burn yourself or mess up the sticker or book

Interesting tip!  I have some animation cels with sketches stuck to them. I think I will give the steam method a try on some of the less-than-special ones.

Lighter fluid Works perfectly every time!

Depending on the cover I use a bit of baby oil on a cotton square and then a bit of dish soap on a rag to remove the oil. It works great on paperback books with a plasticy finish.

Hair dryers work great for removing stickers - and they are the best option when trying to take a sticker off something that is paper/will get stained by other removal products.
