Pony Corral / Edit: I got them all back!
« on: July 17, 2020, 03:20:38 PM »
I went digging in my pony bin looking for my first wave G4 brushables to put out on display...only to find that they weren't there!  Before my first move, I remember giving several G4 blind bag ponies to my niece, but I don't remember giving her my brushables.  So, now I'm on a mission to get them back xD

I had:

- Rarity
- Fluttershy
- Applejack
- Sunset Shimmer
- Bubbles

I feel so incredibly silly ^^'  At least I still have my G1s! <3

Pony Corral / G4 4th Dimension Entertainment plushies
« on: July 01, 2020, 03:52:24 PM »
Was part of the fandom for the original run of the first four seasons.  Recently got back into it with the hubby and he told me that 4th Dimension Entertainment released show-accurate plushies at one point.  Of course, with Hasbro being Hasbro, they yelled at 4DE and they stopped making them.  My hubby managed to find himself a Dash and a Twilight (the Dash plush is ABSOLUTELY precious!), but what I'm wanting to know is: 1) How rare are these plushies now?  2) What characters did they make other than Dash, Twilight, and Fluttershy? 3) What's the best place to try and find these?  Thanks in advance!

Customs / Where to buy hair
« on: June 19, 2020, 04:13:57 AM »
When I made my first customs, I bought hair from Dolly Hair.  Right after that, issues with them started to crop up and, even though it's been a while, I'm very wary about doing business with them.  What are some other good sites for ordering hair?

Customs / Help with paint and sealing
« on: June 15, 2020, 06:26:43 AM »
Many moons ago, I made custom ponies for myself and my hubby.  At the time, I thought they were awesome but, after digging them out and looking at them now, I definitely could have done a better job.  Both were painted with paintbrushes and were sealed with glossy Mod Podge (also with paintbrushes).  Maybe it's the type/quality of the brushes I used, but the Mod Podge has brush streaks.  Also, I'm guessing it's because I used glossy rather than matte Mod Podge, they have dust and hairs stuck to the.

I see so many custom ponies on here with even paint and sealant application-- Is there something I could have done differently?  Should I invest in an inexpensive airbrush?  Will post pics later when I have access to them.

Off Topic / Underappreciated movies?
« on: August 01, 2014, 05:27:01 PM »
We've got a thread about bad movies, how about one about hidden film gems?  Movies that are out there, that are great, but just aren't that popular.

My favourites are:

Foxfire (1996) - One of Angelina Jolie's best performances in my opinion!  Very edgy mid-90's teen movie.
Starman (1984) - Very touching story.  It's sci-fi for people who don't care much for sci-fi and Jeff Bridges is amazing in the movie.
Brother Bear (Disney 2003) - I have no idea why this movie isn't more popular.  Stunning visuals and amazing animation and a great story.

I'm sure I can think of more.  What about you guys?

Every time I go to the record store, I have to comb through the boxes of $1 records.  Those boxes are reserved for records that are a little worse for wear or records that aren't in really high demand and don't have a place on the divided shelves.  There are some great hidden gems in there!

My record collection is about 90% 80's music, but I've made exceptions for KISS, Meatloaf, Alice Cooper, and Elvis (I try to stay clear of stuff any older than the late 60's since I've found that older record sleeves get all moldy and I'm allergic to mold >.<).  The last time I was at the record store they were having a huge sale and I combed through all of the crates they had out looking for anything and everything that so much as LOOKED like it was from the 80's, whether I knew the band or not.  I came across this one album by a band named Glass Tiger.  Never heard of them, but the copyright date on the back of the sleeve said 1986 so I snatched it up.  I never got around to listening to it right away since, at the time, our big stereo speakers weren't working.

I was looking for something to listen to while I made lunch this afternoon (dad got the speakers working over the weekend) and pulled Glass Tiger's 'Thin Red Line' off the shelf.  I only listened to side A but I was blown away by what I heard!  The title track, Thin Red Line, is your typical empowering 80's song but it made making lunch feel twice as epic.  And I could have sworn I'd heard 'Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone' before.  Looking forward to listening to side B later. :3

Another band, one that I'm sure everyone knows when it comes to 80's music, is A-Ha.  The only two songs of theirs I knew were 'Take On Me' (of course) and 'The Sun Always Shines On TV'.  I found a copy of 'Hunting High and Low' in one of the dollar bins and picked it up mainly because 'Take on Me' was on it.  I listened to the whole album and immediately fell in love.  I later ended up picking up a copy of 'Stay On These Roads' and it's just as good if not better, than 'Hunting High and Low'.

I'm actually shocked these two bands were one-hit-wonders (in America, that is!).  They're both phenomenal!

What about you guys?  Fallen in love with any old one-hit-wonders or bands you didn't know existed?

Off Topic / Non-pony brag - Late Christmas present from my brother
« on: December 29, 2013, 11:17:38 AM »
I've been an avid collector of vinyl records for a little over a year now.  What I have is mostly from the late 70's, all through the 80's, and a couple of things from the very early 90's.  My older brother is also a collector but he goes after extremely rare pieces, so he knows where to get the good stuff.  Ever since I started collecting, I've been after three film soundtracks: TRON, Transformers, and Back to the Future.  A friend of mine overseas found a copy of Back to the Future the second he set foot in the record store and proceeded to taunt me with it.  I go to the record shop once or twice every month and I've just had NO luck!  Well... I tasked my brother with finding it.  He showed up yesterday with a square padded envelope with this in it (ignore the yawning gremlin in the background.  I didn't have the heart to move her!):

MINT CONDITION.  STILL SHRINK-WRAPPED.

I...I screamed when he presented me with this!  The only thing he and I couldn't figure out was the drill hole in the bottom left corner.  The seller told him that the drill hole was put there by the record company to indicate that it was out of print.  The internet says that drill holes were put in record covers to denote that they were cheap or heavily discounted.  It's a mystery!

I just really want to open it and toss it on my turntable and listen to it, but it's just so...pristine!

It also smells nice~  Is this what 1985 smelled like? xD

Off Topic / Help me find this bag!
« on: December 03, 2013, 10:27:50 AM »
Okay, so I had I friend many years ago (back in '07/'08) who had this bag that she said the got from Target.  It was a messenger-style bag/purse.  It was white with red trim and red straps and had pictures of little cartoon bunnies and flowers on it.  I remember her saying that the little bunny on it was Thumper (yes the one from Bambi).  She also said it was in the kid's section.

I've never been able to find this bag and I still want one to this day!  I've tried searching 'thumper bag' 'bunny bag' etc on Google and eBay and haven't come up with anything!  Hopefully someone here knows what I'm talking about. >.<

Off Topic / Grr! I knew this was too good to be true!
« on: October 27, 2013, 03:16:49 AM »
For the last few months I've been after a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Gamecube.  The ones on eBay were WAY overpriced and I don't like the one for the Wii (I don't like motion control).  I finally found one at a Gamestop in town (leftover from when they used to sell Gamecube games) and snagged it for $7.  I popped it in the Wii last night and, just my luck, the disc was too scratched up for the Wii to read.  I'm trying everything I can to fix the disc.

Don't you just HATE it when something is too good to be true?

Off Topic / Midterms next week - Need empowering 80s songs to study to!
« on: October 10, 2013, 11:49:22 AM »
I know there are a lot of them out there!  I already have 'The Touch' from the Transformers movie on my list as well as Survivor's 'Eye of the Tiger'.

If... that even made sense.

Basically, I just want a calendar app (or Android or iOS) that lets me put entries in it without making me enter a start time and end time.  I need a good way to organize the assignments my professors give me and I don't need to enter a start/end time for an essay deadline or reading assignment. :P

Off Topic / I got engaged this week! :D
« on: July 19, 2013, 05:33:44 PM »
I /still/ can't believe it happened!  Jack and his family had been planning it for over a month and he did his darnedest to try and mislead me (kept saying it would be three more years, etc.), and the way it was executed was awesome!

There's this members-only, fancy socialite's club in his hometown that his father is a member of.  It's where he took me on our first date and we've been back several times since.  He took me there Tuesday night for what I thought was going to be just a normal dinner.  We sat at the bar for a bit and had drinks (I kinda suspected something was up when he ordered a 16-year scotch for himself), then we sat down at our table which was right next to the pianist.  We got through dinner and dessert and, as I was finishing my wine, he takes my hand.  He starts off this little speech that I didn't think too much of (I was grinning like an idiot because I'm a sucker for his "I love you" speeches).  He goes on an on and it didn't take me long to realize what he was doing... and all I could say was, "Oh my God..."  He pulls out the ring box, gets down on one knee and pops the question.  Of course, I said yes. :P  There was a big table next to us and we were met with a round of applause from them.  Turns out that Jack's dad paid the pianist to be there that night and got the whole club staff in on it!  The waitstaff kept coming by and showering us with congratulations, the pianist did as well, and we were treated to champagne on the house!  It was really quite the evening! ^^  I showered him with hugs and kisses upon our return home and, for the first time, called him my fiance. :3

I have some pictures of the ring, but I'll get those uploaded later.  I just got home from his place (three hour drive which I cried during most of) and I'm tired and sad.

We haven't set a date yet as we're both still in school.

Off Topic / I need more "cheesy" 80's shows to watch!
« on: July 06, 2013, 02:36:41 PM »
I've watched Quantum Leap through many MANY times and I'm very slowly getting through Knight Rider, Star Trek: TNG, and MacGyver.

Would prefer sci-fi and action/adventure.  Can either be cartoons or live-action.  I'm not picky. :3
