Customised Nirvanas
« on: February 24, 2012, 01:52:30 AM »
So I got a bunch of ponies today from a lovely lady who lives in my town and is also a pony collector. She was having a clear out, and I bought a large lot that was a mixture of really baity ponies mixed in with some pretty good, some near mint and some she just didn't want/have room for.

Anyway, included was a custom she got a while ago whose paint was starting to chip a bit, etc.

So I'm rummaging through my new haul, lalala...look at the custom, doobedoo. Turn her over.
Look at her foot.

ITALY.

Look again.

ITALY.

Balls.

So now I have a customised Italian pony - she's a pretty common Italian, but still. I winced.

So, people...please, please be a responsible customiser and double check your ponies before customising them. I know a lot of nirvanas can be in pretty bad shape, but so many people would love to have them regardless of their condition.

Looking for: Alternate Birthflowers, Baity wingers, So softs - both minty and for deflocking - and DREAM BEAUTIES!

Ooh bugger :( can you possibly restore her even after the customisation attempt?

I really hate this sort of thing, especially with just about any G1's. I personally think if you are a beginner customizer, or you aren't up there with the best of the best, G1's should be left alone period. Even most of the really good customizers stick to anything after G3 as it is. Unless its like really REALLY past it, either leave it alone, restore, or onsell / give to someone else to fix up.

So sad... :(  Did you let the seller know?  I would feel compelled to do so.

Agreed!  One less of that pony out there, and it's usually savable.

Depends on the pony. I know Italy peachy is dirt cheap and you can fall over one in the street. I personally would only attempt restore nirvanas.

I've customized Italy Ponies too - they are pretty common here in Germany (and also used pretty common ponies like Bowtie or AJ - and of course only ponies in a really poor cond.) =)

when it comes to the cheap Italies in bait condition... *sigh* Id customize them. I tried to sell many of those here in the past years and even if the price was really low, most did not get sold, because they were not in good condition anymore.

But still, the story reminds me of that Ice Crystal which had "rubbed symbols" and was turned into a Daddy Minty... *sigh*

I'm surprised they wouldn't have sold. :/ But at least you tried.

Also I don't remember the Ice Crystal story. That's really painful to hear about. =(

The Ice Crystal story makes me wanna
Personally I do not like nirvanas to be made into customs, or any other G1 pony that is not beyond restoration either TBH, so i would only customise very baity/beyond help ponies.  I do love customs so please dont think I dont, (I even have a few G1 customs myself)  but I like to preserve ponies too, even if they are common ;) . In the end its up to you what you do with your own ponies, and if you have a pony that has already been made into a custom by someone else then  dont worry about it now - and I wouldnt risk trying to change it back unless the custom was very badly done/damaged etc  :awake:
