How do you keep count of your herd?

I gave up keeping count long ago. Although I do keep a collection inventory in my head of who I have, who I've sold or traded, and who I want or need. I couldn't tell you an exact number, though.

I don't keep a running count of any of my collections. The numbers are daunting even if its just something tiny, like say Petites, that fit all in a single small box or whatever. Its way less stressful without keeping track of numbers!

I have a Shutterfly site where I keep track of my collections though, more or less. I take photos as I get new items. For dolls and action figures, I have lists of each brand and when I got them. For ponies, I just upload the photos into yearly albums. The photos are captioned with info like the pony's name, how I acquired them, and when they arrived. I might need to find a new way to organize since we're getting to the point of a year album with 2 photos in it.

With the dolls I just add a note to the lists when I get rid of something but for the ponies I basically did nothing about it ever. I think I'm going to photograph all my ponies on white and make new albums for my current collection, sorted by generation. That way I can keep the visual history of the old albums that I enjoy and still have an actually helpful area that shows all the ponies in my collection. But that's sooo cluttered... it might be time to just ax the old albums. I may enjoy them from a nostalgia and time capsule sort of view but they're honestly terrible! The photos are almost entirely horrid, haha.

Easy. I don't

Okay- well for the things that are important, I TRY to take photos of them. But honestly most things just get packed in crates and I often forget what I have...

I have a spreadsheet, with tabs for each year, and ponies arranged by set. I keep count of duplicates and any flaws or restoration work, prices when I remember them. It also includes my Keypers and the Lil' Litters.

Once I have a better storage system for the ponies, I'll be adding photos for each pony showing front, both sides, portrait, rear, top and bottom.

I don't keep track of accessories or playsets... yet. That'll be the next big spreadsheet project.

I keep track - but I have only 32 ponies, so it's not that difficult ;) I would have been almost embarrassed if I didn't know them!

I have an idea of which common US released G1 I have because I mark them off in my book put out by Summer Hayes.  The number of duplicates  :lmao:  European/UK and nirvana ponies, I would recall which ones I had if shown a picture.  I am in the very beginning stages of finally putting my collection together so maybe in a year or two, I could give you a good estimate.

I have a My Little Pony notebook that my friend bought me that I write my collection in. From the front is a list of the ponies I have, with the accessories I have for them. Here I have also included any modifications that have been made to these ponies, such as repainted eyes, partial rehair etc. At the back is a list of ponies I still want to get, on another page is a list of accessories I still want to get, and another page with a list of modifications I would still like to get done, such as my Windy needs his eyes repainting etc. I'm a bit OCD I think!!

I don't know my count off the top of my head but close enough.

I have a spreadsheet with every single pony/character listed along with a ton of other information. I'm working on a database to make it a bit easier for me to manage. Then I will also move onto an accessory database. It's a huge project that I'm pretty excited about.

I have a google doc where I keep a list and running count of all my ponies.
I think it started out as a wish list then I started moving ponies to a separate "have" list at one point and at sometime later counted them all and started keeping a tally.
There are 75 ponies in my collection right now (including Spike) not counting any I'm selling/considering selling. The most I've had is somewhere just over 300.

Having just done a quick check of my spreadsheet, I have a grand total of 492 ponies and 13 Keypers. Accounted for, anyway. I'm still certain there are more hiding in some of my playset/accessory boxes.

I love spreadsheets  :)
I do keep, count (or did) except for customs, and petites. I had close 886 ponies in my G1 collection, I believe I am down to 326ish left for sale now

Off the top of my head I know who I do and don't have, but I have no idea how many that is.  I keep a mostly up to date spreadsheet but I'm not great at keeping up with it.
