Pony Corral / PC on G3 Wisteria “pyjama pal” plush
« on: August 13, 2021, 05:35:13 PM »
I apologize for having no on hand pictures, but: it’s the big australian ones, a size smaller than the big mail order Frilly Frocks but still pretty big. I have one and am maybe thinking of selling. Only displayed and has all tags.

I have two of her, the regular one and the anniversary one. She’s cute  :)

Pony Corral / Re: Has Friendship is Magic impacted you in any way?

Positively, I guess? It’s what attracted me to MLP and lead me to learn how fascinating of a toy line it is. I jumped ship on the show when the episodes became routinely subpar, and late-G4 toyline is also pretty bad, but I like the early brushables.

In the end I think it was a fun ride and positive for MLP as a whole given how many new people it attracted to the collecting scene, even with its decline. I don’t really understand the absolute ire some people have for it.

She’s pretty, but not my fave of the flutters.

Pony Corral / To deflock or not?
« on: October 08, 2020, 02:03:52 PM »
So I have a very sad Taffy. She has lipstick, is very yellow, and is missing all of the flocking on her head. I obtained her with the 100% intention to deflock, but as I’ve discovered, most of the flocking on her body is nice and thick except for a patch on her side.

The poor girl:

I know the definite answer is that it is my pony and I can do what I want, but I’d like some input before I move forward. She looks pretty silly with a fuzzy body and a not fuzzy head, but it also feels dirty to remove the good flocking on her body.

Pony Corral / Re: Which color is the correct color?

I would say that most yellowed ponies are pretty easy to spot out as they are 'tinted' vs going full on yellow in *most* cases (think a yellowed Moondancer vs the actually intentionally yellow Moondancer) but I have seen some Cherry Treats whose shade almost matched yellow Moondancer, so who knows. In the end I definitely think it's a 'play it by ear' sort of thing as there's no all-knowing pony bible that tells us what the Definitive Version of said pony is.

I definitely imagined Heart Throb being a little less yellow, but that's the thing. With how many versions of 'X' pony there are, especially the early ones, there's always going to be someone out there who doesn't think the repro quite matches what they think of as 'X' pony. It's inevitable.

Gardenia Glow can definitely be more on the yellowy-green or on the blue side (or if you're unlucky you can just get one with a head/body mismatch). There's probably more G3s that do this, but I can't think of any more right now. As far as G4 goes Feathermay comes to mind as she can vary pretty significantly on how vibrant her body is (and it's pretty much impossible to find her without a head/body mismatch, whoops).

I have a confession: Looking at the new images of them, I.. think they’re cute. Not the earth pony molds though.

Honestly these ponies are pretty much the same as any girls’ animal toy on shelves right now. Giant heads and big eyes are the norm.

I'll show a pony I used to own, then.  :P The yellow unicorn filly prototype. She is now owned ... by someone attempting to sell her for two thousand dollars. I sold her for $300, so I wish them luck in that endeavor LOL

Pony Corral / Re: G4 Pony Classification?

Potion G4s? They’re marketed as potion ponies. No clue if that will be a consistent gimmick though. I never thought of what we call G4.5s to be different enough to warrant the .5 label, but using that label for these instead would be confusing.

G4.75 is probably what will end up sticking though, even though I think we’re getting a bit excessive with the decimals. :P

At an angle they look okay?

Doubt these are G5. IMO they’re far more likely to be transitional shelf-warmers like G3.5. I think they look better than the G4.5 open-mouths.

Honestly I think it's really sad that neither the MLP Fair nor Ponycon get their own exclusives. I understand it probably wasn't profitable for them, but the "hey, we know you're here!" sentiment of it was nice. Now it's just radio silence aside from the fact that Hasbro let Basic Fun make replicas.

You do know that MLP Fair and PonyCon had to pay for full factory runs of every exclusive they've offered, right? With the exception of the 2005 and 2006 Fair exclusives and those shared with Comic Con from 2012-2016 (which were a "pre-sale" for SDCC), Hasbro didn't just give ponies to the events.

I wasn't implying that. I'm speaking along the lines of a company's thought process; the fair ponies were complex and I wouldn't doubt that Hasbro at some point decided that the designing and production of such a small batch of ponies was no longer worth the effort when that labor could be put into ponies that can be released in as many numbers and as many times as the company wants. Especially when you can make your SDCC pony a basic fashion style with crossed eyes and call it a day.

I don't consider hair cutting to be destroying; if a kid thinks their pony looks better with a bobcut then it's no big deal. I consider it more a part of play than anything else.
