Title: Minnesota Pony Meet- August 24th in Hines, MN! (Up North!) PM for location!

I'm sorry I can't figure out how to get rid of the poll, please ignore it.

The date for the 4th Annual MN Pony Meet has been set! Mark your calendars for August 24th, and warm up the GPS! The meet will be in beautiful Hines MN, up near Bemidji. As the time gets closer, we'll get the directions out to those who need it.

We are planning on a potluck for food and beverages, and I've got some games already planning in my little head. If anyone has anything to donate to the prize table, please bring it!

And a contest- I'm not sure what the prize is yet, but here's the contest.
Since we'll be in Paul Bunyan territory, it only seems right that we have a Paul-themed contest. The material can be whatever you want, the only rule is that ponies and Paul must be involved. This can include Paul, his family, or, of course, Babe, the famous Blue Ox. Photos, drawings, customs... anything you want to do!
Winners will be chosen by the attendees, and only those attending can enter. Let the creative juices flow!  

SWAP! We will be having a $10 swap- if you bring a package, you will get one in return. This package can include a pony or two, candy, cute little swap-friendly things, and should be wrapped. The package does NOT need to include a pony- there will be non-collectors at the meet- and depending on how many non-pony packages there are, we may have them split up by pony and non-pony.

MIMICS OF MINNESOTA!  Bring along your Mimics- we will do a group photo shoot! Just for fun, but won't it be neat to see all those Mimics together! Customs and drawings are good, too!

I know Shakopee is nice for people coming to the RenFest- that's why it was in September last year (oh, now I remember!). That's also why I was looking in Shakopee. I think I might have to do some actual calling around, I just bumped into this place by chance. I still like it, but it's the same place that the RenFest people camp/sleep/drink. It will probably be pretty empty on a day that the Fest is happening, since everyone will be at the Fest, so we should have it almost to ourselves. Like I said, I won't know anything until Spring, so it will have to wait until it's nice out.

I'm not so sure I like the idea of the fest site while the fest is ongoing; thieves are alive and well at the fest, sad to say. :( That, and I don't like porta-potties. :p

I like the idea of hosting it at various people's homes; that sounds fun. (Can't do ours this year, as we're doing repairs this year, but hopefully next year.) :D

Almost any weekend works for me this summer, except the weekend after the forth (of course), the weekend before the forth (might be selling at AniMinneapolis this year; its still on the table), and labor day weekend (Metacon, also a possible selling venue). Other than those three, I should be good for any time this summer. Barring my folks going to the cabin and taking the car, of course. I really want to make the meet this year, seeing as I've missed the last two. :(

I've been trying to find a really good "getting to know you" sort of thing. I know some good icebreaker games, they just aren't prize-giveable. Keep your eyes peeled for something, though- I remember all of the people at the meets, but I feel like I should be able to remember you better!
Any thoughts?

ETA: I had a thought! Maybe instead of meeting at someone's house (which would still be fun) we could do something sort of like a flea market. We could meet at a county park or somewhere sort of out-of-the-way yet near the cities and everyone can set up their table or use their car as a table. I volunteer to build a fire and bring weenies! I'm still looking into parks that might work, or abandoned parking lots...
We can put up a "private party" sign to keep out people who might be pesky, or we can see if they want to buy ponies too- maybe we'll create some new collectors!
Anyway, something to keep in mind, or to chat about. I know the county park close to me has a main parking lot that usually has people in it, but there's an area further back that most people don't go to. I'm thinking the "further back" option would be great for us!

Hey Aurora!  I'm so excited we're talking about a pony meet!!  I like the idea of a park, but if the weather isn't good, that could be a problem.  Unless the park had a covered shelter we could use....?  I'll keep my eye out too.  I'm in, but it would be nice to get a month or date in mind, weekends in Minnesota during the summer do tend to fill up with other commitments fast.  Hope we get lots of people again this year, I've really enjoyed the last 2!

Aurora, do you go to the WI meet too?  We are thinking about doing that one too this year.

You mean like a camp site? That could be fun! :D I do agree with the concerns though - What if it rains? I don't know if camp sites have buildings like the old GSC camp Greenwood and similar. :huh:

Is the meet is going to be in Shakopee, MN that would be 281.1 mi, 4 hr 45 min driving for me. That is not to bad.

Hooray, other people! I always worry when I start these and no one says anything!

I've looked into a few of the parks up near Shakopee, there are a few county parks that would have buildings we could use. I don't know if there's a fee, but I think we can roll with a fee around $50. Last year we paid about that to use the "free" site, so I don't think it would be a problem.

I've also been studying our house and yard, and I'm pretty sure we could handle hosting. We might have to set up a few tables in the basement or yard just to be sure everyone has as much room as they want, but I don't think that's too much of a problem. My only problem with hosting is that I live about 2 hours South of the cities, and that's a long way for the people in the North. However, it would be a great "middle" for anyone from Iowa that wanted to come!

If we do the park, we should shoot for summer months. May is bad for me, with the garden (it's a big garden!) and my mother-in-law's yearly trip up north. I love the trip, but why May? Sigh.
What if we went for June? It's not too hot, the bugs aren't insane yet. All my weekends are open right now, but Gusty's right, weekends do fill up really fast.

Ok- so a quick informal poll.
Someone's home vs. Park  (or other options, maybe a site near you?)

June? July? August? Other?

I personally like the home, June option. It doesn't have to be my home, I just like visiting people's houses, and the WI meets are fun that way- it's a visit and a pony meet!

Home vs Park:  I don't have a home that would work, but I'd be up for going to either.   

June, July or August?:  I can't the first weekend of June other that that it doesn't matter to  me.  I like Aurora's thought about the bugs not being too bad yet and hopefully not too hot either in June.  Plus it's sooner :) 

If we have a date planned far in advance, I wouldn't mind a road trip for the pony meet.  A couple hours drive from the city doesn't bother me at all.  Let's keep brainstorming!!

I thought of a fun game idea- I was going through my boxes of things I'm selling and found a horse that I had to really work to identify. She's not exactly a fakie, but something like that. And I was thinking it would be fun to have a contest like that- if we bring the toys that we either can't identify, or that took a lot of research and luck to figure out, then we all took guesses (we could have a list). The one who got the most right would get a prize!
This means everyone could bring something to show off- something unusual or strange. It wouldn't have to be a pony/fakie. We could even do something with other toys of the 80's- see who can name all the strange little toy brands. Happidiculous World of Upsie Downsy, anyone? (I think that's the 70's, but you get the idea!)

Any others have any thoughts about locations/dates?

Personally, I was hoping for something after the MLP Fair. :huh:

I'm up for either home or park; both sound fun. My only issue with park is that I'm massively allergic to poison ivy - as in, doctors think another encounter could kill me. :yikes: So long as we know the park is ivy-free, I'm good, though. :)

Back to the timing, I was thinking August, but you have a good point with the bugs. Also, thinking on it, August tends to be massively humid, so that wouldn't be fun either....

The first couple weekends in September are good for me, too- and usually the bugs are gone. The first weeks in October are usually lovely, and maybe that campfire will be more welcome!
Kazzy, good point about the fair. That means if we can't go to the big Fair, maybe someone can bring us Fair Swag to share/sell.

I'm just gonna bump this a little..... *hipcheck* 

My brother is talking to his boss this weekend to see if he will be working at the park in Shakopee again. When he's for sure hired on, I'll push him to ask about the availability of the common room. Here's my thinking on this-

They get LOTS of business during the RenFest. LOTS. But they don't make much money in the Spring. We would have a better chance of having the place to ourselves if it was before Memorial Day, when they park starts getting busier.
I'm hoping to make it to the fair in Indiana, but if I don't, it would be nice to have someone pick up exclusives to sell to us at our meet. But that can't happen if the meet is in the spring.
We could have a mini-meet in the Fall, though- especially if we could find a way to set up a MN pony site, where we could all talk and arrange mini-meets and trades. Then we could have one in the fall, spring, and February, when it's bleak and cold and ponies make everything warmer.

There- those are my thoughts, cleverly disguised as a thread bump.

I would totally love to host it...but I live wwayy North...in Hines MN close to Bemidji...lol...if anyone knows where that is..hehe....I had so much fun last year!....I am fairly sure I can go again!....the guess the ponies in the sacks was so much fun!.......Loved meeting all the MN pony peoples....count me in!

Oh yeah...the farther away from the pony fair in July the better for me because I need to save a little cash....after that!.....so September sounds good...love fall also!

I had to miss the meet last year because of work too, scarlettkitty. Luckily with almost a year under my belt at this job, getting time off is way easier, so I am hoping to make it this year! 

I am loving all the talk about IKEA going on in this thread. You guys are my kinda people!  :biggrin:

I'm open pretty much all summer except for Fourth of July and Memorial weekend, naturally. A park sounds like a really nice idea, provided it has a sheltered area in case the weather disagrees with us.

Hi I would love to go agian this year as well it was so much fun last year. I was hoping for one after teh MLP fair in july as well because I am going to that and my work has me working almost every weekend in the summer. Farmers schedule. I would love to have it as wizzers as it is only 5 hours away from me or next to the ren fest as I love to go there every year.  I am in ND and it is a long way to go unless I make it a weekend trip. fall sounds wonderful. I do have a few weekends in summer but not many and it would be ok if it was at wizzers. I love the idea a bbq or something we we could all bring something to share like a potluck with a list of things.

I would love to host the meet.....I am sure no one wants to drive up north here....but....you could all carpool...and I have a HUGE HUGE yard......we could set up tents outside and camp and have a campfire...I love sleeping outside!....I know it is usually in the cities, but I am fine either way..we could be as loud as we want here!.......Bubbles already knows me!, we came together last year along with Ice_Gypsy....Plus I am sure a few of you remember me,...hehe!....and yes Fall for sure for me, cuz of the fair in July....I will be broke if it is right after the 2013 fair...LOL..although I might be able to pick up fair loot....we shall see if they have more exclusive ponies available this year..they sold out in under an hour last year! :biggrin:

great for fishing and such. bemidji is only 1/2 hour away.
like i said my mom said we can use the house. upstairs has 3 bedrooms.... but the couch is nice too.

if people want to drive to minneapolis we could carpool up there. split the cost of gas.

I love Brainerd! The whole area in general, actually. Pequot's bobber water tower is always fun to look at.  :lol: Plus it's not quite as far away from me.

Hooray! I had a little computer issue, it's fixed for now. It sounds like we'll be having a fantastic North Meet! I know it's a long drive for some of us, (I think it's about 6 hours for us) but I'm planning on having a little vacation, too! I think Mom and I (and whoever gets tricked into going with us) will camp at a park close by, but we'll be there bright and early!

So does the location sound ok to everyone? We'll get the date figured out next! Yay!

Is the decision between Hines, Bemidji and Brainerd or only 2 of those destinations?  I couldn't really sort it out reading the posts.  Also, is this for a fall or summer meet?

that's what i was asking. hines is 6 hours for me. brainerd is about 4, 3 if i drive fast.
so i'm new to the meet, is it usually just an afternoon? or how does it go?

As far as I know the meet is just a weekend.  That's how it was last year and if people wish they can meet up to do other things together.

The way it has been working is we meet in the morning on a Saturday, usually around 10 am, but I think last year was at 9 am. Then we spend the day together, and we've been stopping around 3 or so.
I feel like if we have more room to mingle and talk, and if we bring food, it will be a longer meet. The place we were the last couple years was really nice, but also really small. Plus, didn't allow potlucks.

I think it looks like a choice between Wizzer's and Rosierjay's, both in/near Hines. Wizzer just said it was near Bemidji/Brainerd, so that's what I was using as a reference point. I know they aren't really that close, but they sound like they should be! Sorry about the confusion- Hines is the projected destination, and I like Rosier's idea about Wizzer's house for the meet and people crashing at her mom's house. (Is it a vacation home?) Wizzer, what do you think?

Sorry if I'm unclear about my thoughts- lots of things are jumbled into my head, and sometimes they don't come out right when I write them down.

I am good either way.....my house is not very big......old farm house....lol......but like I said if people wanna camp here I have a huge yard and I am not by the highway....potluck sounds great!...or even a cook out...I have a grill.....marshmellows or smores by fire.....we can even have a wagon ride at my parents house if guys like that idea....we have draft horses=)...could have the meet and go for a ride..hehe(just a thought) :frolic:....and yeah the way it sounds is that rosierjay is within walking distance...and we have very long dirt roads by my house...we can use my house for the meet or even my garage....depends on how many people are coming.....and what month are we thinking?? and day??=)  I am excited now!...I love having fun with pony friends!

Oh yeah, Hines is about 20 minutes North of Bemidji!

Seaponey, it looks like after the fair has a lot of support- do you know when the WI one is? I know it was slow to start last year, and I couldn't make it.

So if I can't go to the fair, and the exclusive isn't ridiculous like it was last year, any chance somone could pick one up for me? Actually, I'm pretty sure if you bought 2 or 3 extras and charged a few extra bucks for handling, my little clan would buy at least 2 of them. One for me, one for James! Rosier, there's a MLP Fair in Indianapolis this July. There's a fair every summer, there was even one in Minnesota once- was that in 2005? 2007? And there's usually an exclusive pony. Sometimes there are extras, sometimes there aren't. There were no extra Bay Breeze's (the exclusive at the one in MN) but there were extras at the last few, and those were available online. But last year, they released that pony that we aren't supposed to say the name of, that clumsy gray pegasus, and she was sold out within an hour. I'm hopeful that the exclusive this year will have thousands made, so I'll get one!

Wizzer, if it rains do you have somewhere we can set up? Did you mention a garage or something, or was I imagining that? I just want to be sure we don't get rained out!

I'm in for the fall up north!  Sounds fun.  If there are some people that don't want to do the commute up there, I'd be happy to do a mini-meet in the metro too.  Count me in for what ever.  Let's get a date on the calendar for the fall one, even if it's just a ball park guess. 

If someone's going to the fair, I'd deffinately buy an exclusive off you if there are extras!!

Yes...i have a garage...i can make sure its nice and clean for the ponies....if for some reason there are a ton of people which would be great...hehe....theres always my parents shop its huge....i can get hold of at least 3 picnic tables plus mine...plus i have one long table like the fair....probably 2 by fair cyz i need practice setup...lol i have two tables along with my cousin....Aurora...i hope u can come..we have room in our suv we r driving:)...the more people the less everyone pays for gas...just depends on how long u can leave for...we r taking a Illinois detour cuz my dad lives there..:)
O yeah i can try to pick up an extra exclusive...i have on possibly 2 non pony people coming so they could each stand in line...i am expecting the exclusive to be a good one becuz of the 30th anniversary... maybe even g1 related!

Aurora, I havn't heard of any plans for a WI meet yet - If they had one last year I totally missed it!  Normally I wouldn't mind a fall meet at all, but the closer to the end of Sept the meet is, the more likely I won't be able to be there.  I'm sure Wizzer218 wouldn't want me giving birth at her house :P

Wizzer, the garage sounds perfect! I was just hoping for something to keep us out of the rain. It also sounds like the perfect place for setting up our own car boot- everyone just sets up their displays like a flea market, using the trunk of the cars or tailgates of trucks. I wonder if the husband would let me use the truck for the weekend? Ooooh, the planning and fun of it all!

So does anyone else have any dates that will or won't work for them in the fall? Like I said, I won't be able to go if it's the weekend of September 21st, but if that is the only weekend that works for anyone else, don't worry about me!

I also had an idea for a contest- ready? It's an art contest, and that could mean anything- photos, customs, crafts- but they have to be Paul Bunyan themed. Examples? Pictures of ponies logging, a plushie of Babe the Blue Pony, a flannel shirt with Applejack on it. The only rules are that ponies and Paul must both somehow be included, and you have to make it. No buying something off etsy and claiming it as your own! I haven't decided on the prize yet, but I'll find something awesome. You never know what I have lurking around here!

The second weekend in August is bad for me, so I voted for the last weekends in August or the first one in September. October might be getting a little chilly for camping, and I just learned that I will have a giant belly by then, so before November is good. Seaponey and I will both have new pony fans for next years' meet! LOL!

I like the idea of a genuine potluck- where everyone brings something and we just see what happens. I do love hot dogs over the fire, and I'm happy to bring a couple packs of hot dogs. Maybe if everyone brings a main dish/side dish (sloppy joes, a hot dish, appetizers, something that feels like real food) and some kind of sweet thing (jello, cookies, cupcakes) and we all take care of our own drinks? I'd be ok with bringing a side dish and $5 for whatever the meat is, if that's how we want to roll. Either way works for me. My co-worker just gave me the recipe for this amazing pizza dip, it's easy enough that I can assemble it at a campground and plug the crock pot in when we arrive.

So go vote, and we'll keep chattering about food and what to bring! Huzzah!

Hines, MN, hmm? *goes to Google maps* Whoa! That's even farther North than my Aunt's cabin! On the other hand, I could make a weekend out of it and spend Friday and Sunday at the cabin - it's been years since I've been, so high time! Only problem is, if mom and dad come with me, I'd have to bring the cats. I don't know if Aunt Sally would go for that, but they'd love the sun porch, and could snif the Northern air to their hearts content. (But, no going outside; they're indoor cats, and knowing Squeaky, he'd find the poison ivy. XD ) Regardless, I'll have to remember to bring the fels naptha soap I use, just in case (I don't have any medication-type stuff; have never been issued anything).

Potluck sounds awesome to me - I can bring the oversized slow cooker to make something while there, and bring a pre-made dessert (provided it survives the trip :lol: ). :D

I can't give a vote to the date because my schedule after June is way up in the air.  There are too many factors of uncertainty with different things in my life right now to give a good suggestion.  I guess I will just have to see if I can swing it or not when the date is decided.  I loved how it worked out over labor day last year but I have no guarantee that it will be open for me this year.

Good morning, team! I changed the poll again, this time to reflect the three most popular dates. At last tally, the 24th was winning with 5 votes, and the others had 4 votes apiece. It looks like August is the winner, so we can start planning that much, at least! So get ready for warm weather and ponies in the northwoods!

For those of you who have mentioned it is a long ways, I know. It's a long way for me, too. But it's still less distance than the North Dakota people have been driving, and next year we can have it closer to the cities, depending on what locations we find. Who knows- we might REALLY love Wizzer's house and we'll always have it there! Either way, this pony meet will be a blast in a completely different way than the others before it. I'm really looking forward to seeing Wizzer's pony room and talking to all the friends we've made over the past few years.

Now here's a crazy thought...

I live in Mounds View, about 15 minutes outside of the cities.  Mind you, I am not able to host it at my house as it's much much much to small, but our court does have a community room that they rent out to our community.  It's fairly decent sized - at least as big as the room we had last year, if not bigger by half.

LMK what you think about that as an option - I could call the office tomorrow and see how much (if anything), and when it would be available.

I am still happy to have it at Wizzer's place, and I'm probably about the furthest South of anyone- if there's someone else down here, speak up! We should be trading right now! It's going to be at least a 5 hour drive for me, and I'm planning to go up on Thursday or Friday and camp out, then come home on Sunday. It's summer, after all, and a great time for a vacation! If anyone else wants to ride along and do some camping, I'm happy to pick up as many people as I have room for.
I looked for places near the twin cities that are public access but not too public, and there are plenty of pavilions and such, but since we never know what the weather is going to be, I wanted something with walls. I was also looking for something that isn't in the middle of everything- I don't want to have to keep worrying that people might wander up and try to steal ponies, or that there's a family reunion going on at the same pavilion and we have to try to share- I just don't see that going well. But a community room at an apartment complex sounds lovely.
If I remember right from a few pages ago, there are 2 people with homes/cottages near Hines, and this is a good distance for North Dakota's folks (is it just you, Bubbles? I thought there were more ND people...)

I personally will drive all over to go to a pony meet, so maybe that's why I'm not too concerned about Hines...

I think doing it at Wizzer's place would be great, but it's just super hard to me to make such a long drive and leave the family for that long.  I'd be leaving my 3 boys (all under 4 yrs old) with hubby for the day.  And while he's great with the kiddos, I don't know if I could do it putting in nearly 9 hours round trip of driving.  =/  It's so hard trying to accommodate everyone from different locations.  *sigh*

I voted for the 17th, but could make the other dates work too.  I'm good with Hines or the cities.  Just a heads up for people from the cities heading north, traffic on the weekends out of the cities is bad.  Especially Labor Day weekend.  My parents live 3 hours north of the cities and on holiday weekends in the summer it usually takes an extra hour to two hours  to get there with traffic...  We stopped leaving the cities on memorial & Labor Day because of the traffic.  No matter the date, I will be there.  Are we going to start up that forum for the meet like years past?

I picked the 31st.....but I am good with any of those 3 days:)...so Aurora feel free to change my vote if needed....as long as there is a meet I will be happy..he he...and also Ihave all sorts if room for parking no wworries..like I was saying people can camp in my yard....I have one twin bed and a couch...lol....I have no problem with people camping out on my floor...he he..o I am excited.....what a summer filled with ponies this will be :biggrin:....I should have plenty of plug ins for crock pots...as soon as the date is set we should figure out who is bringing what foods and if we are having a cook out or just a pot luck so much planning....I can get ahold of a few picknic tables and I have one I have some tables also :biggrin:

I'm pretty sure my clan will be staying at a nearby campground (we love campgrounds! No offense to either of you for your offers!) so no one needs to worry about space for us. And Rosier, I'm not sure how to change a date one there, will you still be able to make it to the meet if it's on the 31st, whether your family is at the house or not?

Of course another one will be planned! And maybe if more people from South Dakota show up, you can carpool and it won't seem so far. It really is a beautiful part of the state, so if you haven't seen it, it would be worth it for a short vacation, plus ponies!

CloudWeaver, Vegas sounds like fun, too! You can sneak a few ponies along, and show us the pictures later. And I would still love it if you looked into the room at your apartment building, at least if you are planning to still be there next summer/fall.

Still working on the "other site" for more organized planning... if someone else wants to set one up, I'm perfectly ok with that! I'm not exactly tech-savvy, and I don't seem to be able to focus for too long. I blame the baby... This baby is getting a lot of blame. Poor thing!

I love the contest!  Ideas are starting to form....   We won't be staying overnight, we'll drive back to my folks after the meet in Outing.  I can make salsa (smooth like Chili's) if people like that and I'll think of other foods to bring too. 

I'm sure we'll get into more of what people are selling/looking for, but I wanted to throw out early that we are looking to complete our series 1 G4 trading cards, so if anyone has duplicates and is looking to trade/sell, bring them with!!

Rosier, welcome to the wonderful world of pony meets! Usually people bring ponies and related items to sell, trade, or just show off. I usually don't bring anything to show off, because 1. I don't have anything that amazing 2. We don't usually have room and 3. I don't want them getting mixed up in everything. So yes, you can bring ponies to sell. Other things, like pony crafts that you make, are good things to bring, but mostly people are here to buy and sell ponies. So look through your doubles and see who you want to part with! If you need any advice on pricing, you can just ask here.

Help? That would be awesome. For the last couple meets we had a chatroom-type board set up for the meet, so we could plan food, prizes, games, carpooling, and other things. Quite frankly, I don't have the gumption to do it this year. I know the last couple years it was on proboards, but I also know lots of other State Meets just keep a thread going on here. Either way works for me- I'm fine with cluttering up the arena! LOL!

I'm not sure how many entries per person for the Bunyan Contest- I am only planning on one, but I don't see any harm in entering more than one. Go for it! More Bunyan!

I am planning on a few games, maybe repeats from past years, and at least one that is a variation on a previous game. If anyone else has any fun games, please bring them!

I also think it would be really fun to do a Mimics in Minnesota picture, where we get as many Mimics together in one spot as we can. I have one, anyone else willing to bring theirs for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity?

And one more- I'm taking some stuff to a yard sale this weekend, but I want to be sure no one here needs anything from my "Stuff that Doesn't Sell" box. It's lots of baity common g3's and g3 buildings. If anyone is looking for a G3 building, either leave a message here or PM before next Friday, or else it's going on the yard sale for cheap. (I will sell it to you for cheap, of course. I always like pony things to go to collectors, but these guys are taking over. I need my space back!)

A drawing of Mimic would be awesome! And people bring all sorts of things to pony meets. The main attraction is usually buying and selling ponies and art, and customs are usually really popular. Don't feel bad if no one buys any- remember, it's only 1/1000th of the collecting community! Maybe you could ask here if anyone wants any specific custom?
I know something else that I've always liked, and it usually drums up sales of customs in the future is to give away a custom- either in a raffle (I'd put a dollar into a raffle for a custom!) or as a prize for one of the games we'll be playing. As more people get to know your work, they'll love it more. You can do the same thing with art. Or anything, really- we aren't fussy about the prizes!
It's also ok if you don't buy or sell anything- if you are just there for the fun and company of other people who like ponies. You should probably bring some kind of food to share, but we're not fussy there, either- it's just good form, if you are eating the food you should bring food.
The general way they happen: Everyone arrives and sets up their tables. While this happens, people are shopping and buying things. This slowly dies down, but people are still deciding on the bigger purchases. It's usually about 2 hours of buying/selling/trading, mixed in with getting to know each other. Icebreakers don't work for pony meets, because no one wants to play games right away- and no one is really shy- there are ponies to be fondled! So the "getting-to-know-you" games are a challenge! LOL! After the pony buying, we usually eat and play games, and then everyone slowly drifts away. That's how every pony meet I've ever been to has worked, but I'm excited to see how this one goes- maybe it will be a different pattern!

I hope I can make it to the pony meet this year. I'm not 100% sure of my schedule quite yet plus its a long drive for me, but I do have family in Black Duck I could stay with and the last meet I was at was a lot of fun!!

I don't have a 'real' mimic for the picture, but I made a custom of her, she just needs her symbol painted on :) does that count?

I love a good grill-out! Do we have someone who is talented with the flame? I don't get much practice, there's always someone who would rather cook when the grill is on- which I think is great, so I don't fight it.
Wizzer, I would be willing to bring some money towards meat if you want to pick up the meat. Not yet, though! LOL!
I'm also open to anything, but I think most everyone is coming from a fair distance, so we'll have lots of "plastic clamshell" food. Nothing wrong with bakery cookies, but they aren't a very good meal by themselves. I think we are now turning our trip up north into a genuine vacation, so we'll just stop and buy something- the crock-pot dip thing, probably something else- but there won't be anything baked from us.
Heck, I'm really not fussy about food, I'm not sure why I'm still writing about it. How about anyone with special food needs? Gluten? Vegetarian? Anti-olive?

What sort of things are you looking for? Generally, people bring ponies and the sort of stuff that pony people like- 80's toys, and things that we know the others collect. I, for example, have a soft spot for Holly Hobbie (the old one). I'm trying not to buy lots of her stuff, but I am looking for the dolls that are about the size of Strawberry Shortcake and her playsets.

Rosierjay.....yes I should be able to hang out before the 4th.....we are actually leaving for the pony fair at like 8 pm on the 4th and driving all the way to Indianapolis... lol( by we I meant me and Ice_gypsy).... ^.

Himmie....... yes feel free to bring anyone...my husband will be there and possibly a few of his friends....so they can do guy things...lol...hhe he...we shall have free chefs!

And tons of planning ahead....I have a good amount of tables....I have at least 3 to 4 picnic tables we can use and 2 other kitchen type tables...not sure what we need....but yeah...I hope it is nice out the weekend of the meet..anyone feel free to PM me if u have specific questions :)

Oh yeah...everyone....bring as much as u want to sell I have plenty of room!

Otherwise, I'm near the Iowa border and can deliver ponies when I go up north- I'd prefer if you make payment and stuff first, so I don't have to deal with that, but I'll be happy to carry boxes/bags for delivery!

Masquerade brushable. I haven't been trying to hunt down the EG dolls- though I'm sure I'll buy them when they come out. I've never considered myself a doll collector, so this "doll" thing is going to be strange. Interesting and new, but strange.

With the big MLP Fair happening this weekend, it's got me pretty excited for our MN meet!  I'm just wondering about how many people are planning on coming and if anyone would be interested in posting what they're looking for/and or selling (or trading).  I'm going to start sorting through all my ponies and merch and try to take some pictures of what I'm going to bring with me so others can see.  :)  Can't wait!!

That was Wizzer, the one who is hosting the meet this year. She did some amazing boys for the fair this year- if I sell enough stuff, I'm hoping to convince her that Wigwam needs a new home. Of course, then I'll need Glory. And if I have Glory, I'll need Firefly. And why stop there? Only 556 more G1's to go! LOL!

My sister's sister-in-law facebooked me last night that she found some ponies, and wanted to know if she got ripped off. She paid $15 and got 6 ponies, including Barnacle, Princess Misty, Peppermint Crunch... drat, I've forgotten the rest. But she wanted to know if she could sell them at the meet, so she might be coming along to try and make back her gas money! And to see how the Pony Half lives. So I might have a couple of non-pony people along, so they can see that I'm not the only one. Teach them well, my friends. :P

It looks like 8 people for sure (though the poll doesn't count guests) and 4 maybes. That probably means we'll have about 20 people there, with pony peeps and guests and non-members.

I got a new shelf for my pony room, and a couch, because I realized how fun it would be to be able to sit in the pony room! And while I was moving everything around, I discovered a few things that I might want to get rid of. Does anyone need a MIP G3 Newborn Cute Pinkie Pie Playhouse or a G3 ponyville Sweetie Belle's Gumball House? The boxes got wet in a flood a few years ago- the gumball house one is pretty much ruined, but the playhouse one is just a little wrinkled. But the playsets inside are lovely, and still do whatever it is they're supposed to do. I haven't decided what exactly to do with them yet- I might sell, I might put one on the prize table if there's interest, or I might keep them a while longer to see if interest goes up or down later.

Someone was looking for Chief's hat, I told them to PM you...who was that? I cannot remember now... I just finally got my second hat for Chief, two complete accessorized sets of Big Brothers. :)

I am still up for the Mimic photo shoot, I can bring mine. The pony group photo thing did not exactly go as planned at the WI Meet. Ha.

I should probably start getting my sales and such organized now. Otherwise it will be like the WI Meet, no sleep and still unprepared. :blush:

Wizzer, I think we will have time and space for all the games, we've never had the problem of too many games. I have a few things for the prize table, plus the prize for my big "guessing" game. And you're right, it IS time to start planning food! I'm going to be staying at my aunt's cabin nearby, so I can actually make real food, but I'm still planning on this amazing pizza dip and the bagels to go with it. I'm also planning on bringing a bowl of punch, because who doesn't love a bowl of punch? I'm sure we will bring other food- I have to chat with Mom and the others and see what they want to bring.
Should we all just take care of our own beverages? I know a lot of times the host gets some beverages, but people usually bring what they prefer to drink. I'm trying to kick the soda habit (this is gonna be a hard one...) so I will probably bring my own water or juice or something.
And Wizzer, I will be trying to save my pennies to get Wigwam, but my BB's need hats too... it will just depend on how rich I feel that weekend! So I'm not going to put him on hold, but if he happens to be there...

Wizzer, I LOVE your customs!  How much would a Gusty be?  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a G4 Rapunzel like the one that was there last year, was that you?  How much would that be (I'm scared to ask!!)? 
I have to work on figuring out food too.  I'm pregnant as well, so what sounds good changes day to day.  I agree w/Aurora on bringing our own beverages.  People have such a wide range of what they like.

I'm planning on coming to the meet & I think my sister will be coming with me too.  Food-wise I was thinking of baking a dessert-  that will be easy to travel with. Or I could bring chips / other snack foods.

The mystery swap sounds like fun!! I've never done one before.  Do the ponies/pony items have to be brand new ponies or ponies in nice condition from a collection?

I would love it if everyone could bring something for the prize table! It doesn't have to be a pony- there will be a few people there as "guests," not really collectors, and we all have multiple interests!

Yes, we're totally still on for the Mimics of Minnesota- mine is very excited about going on a journey, she doesn't get out much.

I'm in for the mystery swap- the ones we've done in the past have included a pony, candy, cute socks- just like any swap. I got Lily Blossom for the last swap, it was awesome to get a pony that I actually had on my wish list!

Just in case people haven't seen any of the messages yet, Wizzer's fantastic custom of Rapunzel (g4 styling size) was taken from her booth at the fair. If anyone sees or hears anything about it, maybe spots it for sale on ebay, please let her know. I'm still praying that a small child picked it up and Mommy hasn't noticed that it's with their ponies yet, but I'm always a little more hopeful in humanity than I should be. And Wizzer, I'm so sorry. That's ridiculous that it happened, and hopefully everything will work out.
With that in mind, I'll understand if you don't want to do a tour of your pony room, and if you still let us (we would LOVE IT!!!!), please make sure you ask before you touch. I know we all know this, and it seems like kindergarten basics, but I also know that lots of pretty ponies just make me want to touch them! Just keep Wizzer's feelings in mind.

Ok, sorry about being the fun police there. I just worry about events where things could go missing- things we all treasure.

How terrible for Wizzer :(   I can't believe someone would do that in the pony community.  My heart goes out to you Wizzer, that is a terrible violation.  I KNOW the MN pony peeps are NOT those kind of people.  If we can't trust each other, there isn't much fun in doing these things.  That being said, whatever Wizzer is comfortable with.  We all will understand.

trying to find one i can dye purple for a nirvana blossom custom.

as far as food. i'll be staying at my mom's place, about 3 blocks away from wizzer's house.
if anyone thinks they might want/need to stay the night send me a pm. so far there is just 2 of us staying there for the weekend. so there is room. (good if anyone plans on staying late or drinking) though my mom says no drinking in her house. XD respect the owner's rules.

aurora should we pm you if we have prizes? i was wondering if you'd like a custom made or a commission as a prize. not sure if anyone would like it though.

my customs ..the boys are $50, big daddy apple delight is $90......I think the rainbow ponies are $30 or $35 I forgot...hehe...same for the TAF but I didn't put their pics up=)

No need to PM me if you have prizes- then it gets to be a surprise for me, too! Usually we play some games, and then we find a way to divvy up the prizes at the end- drawing names, or maybe bingo... I've been meaning to find/make a copy of pony bingo for years now! LOL! Maybe the WI people would be willing to lend us theirs- I'll PM them and see. So the prizes will all find good homes.
If you have a custom that you'd like to donate, that would be awesome, usually I see people put a little card/certificate for a custom of your choice. Whatever you feel right about donating.
And if the prize table ends up a little empty, I usually have a certificate in there for $5 worth of my ponies. You can also just say "Hey, guys, anyone who wants a G3 off my table can use them as a prize." It's not the most structured thing, but it works really well.

would anyone be interested in some custom tutorials? I know several people have asked me about how I take apart dance n prance ponies, and the brush n grow ponies.

If anyone has a broken brush n grow, or any baity ponies with mechanisms in them that they'd like me to show them how to take apart, I'd be happy to do some live tutorials.

Also if anyone would like to see a talking princess celestia taken apart, I have two that are in pieces right now, and one I need to get taken apart, so I can show people how to take them apart fully...

let me know if anyone is interested.

I think it would be neat if we had a few customizers there to do some tutorials and such :3, maybe even work on a couple customs while we're there together?

Deflocks and tutorials! YEAH! I would love to see different ponies taken apart, and I have at least one of the peek-a-boo style heads that I want to rehair. I'm not too scared of rehairing, but taking apart the turning head sort of weirds me out. I might bring him (I've put it off so long that I've forgotten who it is!) to see if anyone wants to pull him apart. I think the tutorial sounds great, we've never had anything like that.
I do have some deflocks on my want list, and if you have any tips on deflocking, that would be great, too. I just haven't had the time to devote to doing everything I want to do, but some learning should motivate me. Or at least I can file it away for the middle of next winter (or the one in ten years) when I do have some free time.
Wrapping the prizes is sort of cool- it adds an air of mystery to it!

This is getting pretty exciting!

I have one of the old talking ponies which doesn't work anymore, she's in great shape, but I've thought about taking her apart to see if I can fix the mechanism, I've never taken one apart before, but if anyone would be interested in seeing how to take that one apart too, I'd be happy to bring her and give it a shot in front of everyone lol

I have also figured out how to partially take apart and rehair a lightly lilly, I can bring the one I have in progress for everyone to see too.

if anyone has Dance N Prance ponies, Brush N Grow ponies, G2 ponies with mechanisms to turn the heads or move the legs, or happy tails (I have one that is taken apart), of anything that they want to rehair or customize, but do not know how to take apart, I would be more than happy to do it for you or show you how to do it.

I'll bring my tools hehe :3

I may be able to give some tips on deflocking, but my deflocks aren't perfect, if anyone is really good at removing flocking from the symbols without damaging the symbols let me know! I have several that still have slightly fuzzy butts because my method will destroy the symbols if I get too carried away....

As far as potluck, are we doing a main something? Didn't someone mention hot dogs and/or hamburgers? Just thinking that we should declare/assign who is bringing what kind of things so we don't end up with a bunch of desserts and no actual food :lol:. That happened a lot with my college club when we had food get-togethers. Everyone brought dessert but no main course  :lookround: BYOB is fine with me...as long as I remember.

I'm thinking about making a huge batch of homemade chex mix for munching.  I'm also thinking about bringing fruit like bananas & grapes.

That is a mouth full! I put the Swap and the Mimics of Minnesota on the first page. I completely forgot about the Paul Bunyan contest! Gah! I wonder if I have enough time...

Anyhoo, I think we will decide when we get there if we want to do separate trades for pony and non-pony packages. If only one person brings a non-pony package, there's not much to choose from! But if 2 or 3 bring them, then it would make sense that the ponies go to collectors- good call, Rosier!

I agree, Bubbles. Old, new- as long as it's pony. We just got a few more new things in at Target, so I might toss one of those into my swap bag! I'm planning on bringing punch and side dish- it's a crock-pot thing, and really yummy.
Are there any massive food allergies we should know about? I'm not bringing any to the meet- the husband is allergic to stuff, but he's not coming. Or vegetarians- the dip can be meaty or not, so I can leave out the meat. I can't leave out the cheese, so I'm sorry, vegans. It's just not the same without cheese. But are there any?

I'll leave the meat out of my dip, I'm not even sure about how much gluten is in it! The bagels, obviously, but you can eat the dip without them. If you happen to have some extra gluten-free chips, they would be good with it!

I got one of my games finished, and I'm in the middle of another one. It's going to be a little more challenging than I expected, but hey, Sunset Shimmer is a really cute pony- you'll have to work for her! I'm also bringing some coloring sheets and crayons, just because I already have them.

Wizzer, I missed your Scavenger Hunt question- I think that would be amazing! The very first MN swap had one, but since I made it I couldn't really play. I'm not really sure how we would put a poll for the food- maybe a main course, a side dish, and a dessert? But I think you're right- as long as everyone brings something they like to eat, no one will starve.

And... is anyone looking for McPonies? Any generation? I don't want to drag them along if no one cares about them.

I know there was a list on facebook, but even if you and someone else both bring a hot dish or cookies, what are the chances they'll be the same? Even just a fruit salad is always different! LOL!
I am trying to get the ponies ready before my brother leaves for the cabin- he's driving the van, so he'll have lots of room.

As far as the $10 swap, one of my favorites only had 3 people participating, so no worries! And if there's only one, well, we swap with ourselves. Is there anyone here who is definitely in the swap- as in, you already have a bag waiting to be swapped? Because we don't have to do it. There will be plenty to do!

I think we'll stick with one gift per person, Rosier- but if you bring a friend, you can totally make their gift, too! I have three packages that I'm putting together! Mom wanted to make one, but she wasn't sure how to create a package that would be well-received by almost anyone. I told her that as long as there's candy, it will be fine. Instead she handed me $10 and said "Make me one." And my nephew never remembers, but he'll be excited to get one!
I'm really glad to hear other people will be doing the swap- it's fun to give and get stuff!

I'm finishing up the pricing today and then moving on to prizes. I know Wizzer said she is wrapping her prizes, but I don't think I'm going to- even though I just realized I have a LOT of wrapping paper.

anyone have a lady flutter summer wing pony they are looking to sell next week?
i was rehairing one for a friend at work and well. had an accident.
was planning to rehair either way so it's ok if the hair not not perfect, but the body and wings need to be great. as well as the eyes and symbol.
another question. if you have one, how much are you hoping to get for her.

it's frustrating cuz i need to buy her a replacement, possibly rehair her. and try to figure out what to do with the other one. blahk. bad customizing day.

oh does anyone have just a little bit of buttercreme dolly hair they could either sell or trade to me?
need enough for 20 plugs on a g1 baby pony.

I think it starts around 9 or 10.
I'll be driving up to Akeley on Wed night, and then the rest on Saturday morning, looks like 40 minutes or so. We'll be staying at the cabin I spent lots of my summer vacations at, and I haven't been there for years. So much to look forward to!

On that note, I have to go pack, and I might not have good computer access while we're up there- I'm taking the hotspot and laptop, but I seriously have no idea how it will work. So I might fall of the grid for a few days- don't worry, I'm still going to be there. I have a bunch of prizes, swap packages, and 3-4 boxes of ponies for sale, some of them super-cheap.

I'm sorry to everyone who can't make it- hopefully next year we'll be closer to you. We'll be sure to post lots of pictures! Pony hugs!

Wizzer, what kind of set up are we going to have?  Should we bring tables?  Are we going to be outside in a garage or in the grass or dirt?  Is there a lot of space to spread out?  Just trying to figure out what I all need to bring.

Are people bringing change for buying?  I'm trying to figure out how many 1's I need to get from the bank to make change.  If everyone is buying at the different booths with larger bills, we may run out of change.  Also, I've got a few different boxes of $.10 & $.25 items, so I'll bring some coins too.  Hopefully everyone can bring an assortment of currency so we don't all run out!  Just a thought :)

I have 4 to 5 picnic tables not counting what me and ice gypsy are setting up in.....yes.....bring the extra tables...better to have more table space...I also have two kitchen tables if needed .....just need to drag them out of the house...he he.....also in a garage in case it rains :biggrin:...also I will get change toi :satisfied:

I'm excited, getting some last minute customs done to see if they spark any interest :3

I'm also getting the taco casserole partially ready so I just have to finish it up when I get there

hubby and I will be leaving at 8am, it's a 2 hour drive, so we should be there around 10am

I have no idea if my cellphone will have service out that way, so I borrowed my dad's extra cellphone just in case, I just hope I don't need a rescue!

Hoping to leave at 7:30am but we will see how that goes. It is about 2.5 hours from us. I finally got through my sales :accomplished:. I had to do super quick PCs so I hope  :hope: the prices are good :good:. Mimic is bundled up and ready for her close-up  :silly: :lol:. I can't wait! btw, if anyone is looking to upgrade their G1 Bubbles... I have one that is in great condition, but I'm in need of one in baity condition, I want to make an inverted Bubbles, and I like to use the originals as bait bases whenever I can....

so if anyone has a baity one, or one in fairly bad shape, bring it along, I'll trade you for my bubbles that is in great shape :3 her only flaw is one small scratch in one of the symbols

Whizzer, thanks so much for hosting it! And Pony Meet NORTH DAKOTA edition is going to happen one of these days, maybe next year at some point!

ND Ponies that were at the meet, please shoot me a pm, we gotta exchange contact infos and we can all work on the ND pony meet together hehe :3

I'll be working on Inverted Whizzer and Inverted Bubbles as soon as I have the materials for them, and a little more crafting space, hopefully in a few weeks those will be done and I can send them off to their new homes.

Also, whoever had the Star Trek figurines, if you still have them available, please shoot me a pm, my husband was interested in them, but forgot to go back for them.

This was my first pony meet ever and I'm so happy I went!  :frolic:

I talked to her mom for a little while and she said something like "We left as soon as she got out of the shower," but I had no idea what that was supposed to mean. I thought my aunt was going to faint... she had no idea there were so many different kinds of ponies, or so many different kinds of collectors. Every time I wanted to stop and explain something to her, I got distracted by something shiny again, so I'm glad my mom was there to explain things to her a little bit.
I also told her that this year lasted longer than any previous year, and that we had so much room compared to the last couple years. She was a little shocked, since we all barely fit into this space. Next year we're going to need more room- though I was ready to spread out on the yard!

For example, who sold me the 5-pack with Nightmare Moon, the Manticore and Steven the Serpent? I know I should remember what your name tag said, and I totally remember what you looked like, but for the life of me I can't remember your name! I was the one in braided pigtails and the Fun Has Been Doubled shirt/pink skirt. And next year I'll make sure that the bag game is a little less crazy- that was really hard and complicated, and I didn't really mean it to be. Sneaky pony meet, changing up on me!
And I think we should keep the thread alive, too. I didn't remember to take any pictures, so I'm counting on other people's shots to get memories of the day! You could just post links to a photobucket album if you want. I'd especially love to see the Mimic picture- that was so cool to see in real life!

boy does it need help... I found larvae inside of it, and mold, and even a bird feather o.0... it was all wet and muddy inside, and the horn was partially chewed off, same with the ears.

Rosier, I love that you explain which ones are yours and which ones are for your niece!
Maybe no one cut the cake because they were afraid you put the gooey red jelly in it, just to freak us out!

In my humble opinion, this was the best pony meet we've had- and that was pretty much all thanks to Wizzer and her helpers! Thank you so much, ladies and the gentlemen that hid behind them! We definitely have to do the dice-type game again, and next year we'll all know to bring some really silly prizes all wrapped up! Wherever the meet is, of course. I'll volunteer to host right now, but I live about an hour SOUTH of the cities, which makes the North Dakotans drive so very very far...

Also, I bought a bag of chocolate to put into the swap packages, and then forgot it at home. Now I'm eating it. All. Really, it would have just turned to soup at the meet, but I sort of wish my husband had found it while I was gone! SO MUCH CHOCOLATE!

Wizzer, I realized after we had left that we left very quickly. I meant to stay and help clean up, but I'm going to use my poor aunt as an excuse. She honestly had no idea what she was getting into! I told her later about your Missing Rapunzel, and she was horrified. I'm pretty sure if she knew who took your pony, she would hunt them down herself. Anyhoo, the car's AC on the drive home was weak at best, but we tried to use it, so we were all cooking by the time we got back to the cabin. The lake felt so good!

Thank you everyone for taking pictures- I had my camera, too, but kept forgetting to grab it. The Mimic picture is amazing! I really like the idea of having a host pony, who should it be next year? Medley? The Mountain Boys? Magic Hat?

Eeep! I have to go hide the chocolate... somewhere I'll forget about it but the husband will see it...

I'm going to try and plan a North Dakota Pony meet for next year possibly. Over the winter I'll be looking at places I can rent and see how much it's going to run, I think I can rent a couple places around here pretty cheap and they're rather large too, so there would be ample room for everyone.

I'll just have to see where life takes me and hopefully it will work out!

Alatrial, I've rented the local sportsman building for next to nothing- it was $10 for the whole year, you just had to become a member and reserve your spot. Other local places, like the VFW or the Lions are good places to look, especially if you're a member. I'd also try schools and churches- we're pretty innocent as a group, not much swearing!

We could do it at the Community Center in Thompson. Since my mom works there we could probably get it for free and there is plenty of space, would have it to ourselves, a kitchen and bathrooms.
