Customs / Re: Show me Autumn/Halloween customs?
« on: October 01, 2017, 05:17:21 PM »
Your customs are beautiful and I was wondering if on House on Haunted Horse you used glow in the dark paint or if you made holes and there's a light inside. He's so lovely, I just had to ask!

Thanks - he's one of my favorite customs I've made :) He has holes cut into his body which were filled (mostly) with resin and then there's a string of lights inside.

I'm so excited for my new doll I have coming. I bought a Bimong Narin at the beginning of the month. I've been searching for one for ages. And this one is a hybrid on a limho body, but I can live with that. Currently he's getting faceup so he hasn't made his way to me yet, but hopefully sooooon.

Yarn reroots are so fun - there are a few artists who really specialize in them! I've only done one myself.

There are only 2 hazard warnings on Apoxie sculpt, which are pretty minor

H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction.
H320 Causes eye irritation

They recommend wearing disposable gloves while working with it (I don't personally but I know I don't have an allergic reaction to it) but that's really the only safety precaution that would be necessary. That and don't touch it and then touch your eyes and you should be fine :) You can always buy the smallest size they offer and see if you like it or if it gives you any issues.

Griffin's Autumn Spell is one of my favorite customs of all time and I'm so honored that she lives with me <3

Fall is my favorite season and Halloween is my favorite time of year, so I have quite a few customs. Here's my lot of autumn and Halloween ponies from throughout the years. From oldest to most recent :)

The fist pony I ever made - Season's Splendor

Personally I only use apoxie sculpt for customs. It is easy to work with, allows for a lot of small detail, and cures very hard and durable. Many other air dry clays are going to be soft, or brittle, and definitely do not allow the same level of detail as apoxie. Most air dry clays also shrink when they dry, which is very problematic for ponies.

She's so sweet! I need to do some autumn photos with my autumn girl, but I have to finish her dress first. There's just so much to do and so little time!

You've just gotta dig up in there. I recommend hemostats or other longer pliers to get the best reach.

Customs / Re: Dyeing ponies

One thing that I do want to experiment with is using some of the newer dyes that I've seen come out that are designed for synthetic materials. I know they can work wonders for dying pony hair. I just haven't had time to work on ponies lately - but it may be time to pull my dye pot out from the closet and do some science!

I know that g1s do not hold dye especially well - I've seen several fade pretty badly. I have quite a few dyed g3 customs though, some of which are 5+ years old, and they seem to be holding up pretty well. There's some fading, but it's not drastic and it's even. As for ponies I've dyed myself, well... I have no idea because all by one of my dyed customs now live elsewhere.

The only comparison pic I have is this girl. Here she is brand new

Aww she's so cute! My Giorria is still naked and bald because my few attempts to sew for her tiny tiny body have been in vain.

Wow, she's so cute!

Personally I would go ahead and send the sleep head back. Color mismatch would be pretty obvious on that style of doll so I'd want to make sure it matched.

I've been eyeing these various grass/leaf mats at Michael's for a long time thinking they'd be great for doll photos. There are WAY too many mosquitos for me to take photos outdoors at this point. They finally went on clearance for 70% off. I have no regrets.

Shopping for this guy has been a bit of a challenge, but I did get a custom wig ordered. The most expensive wig I've ever bought x_x But then, pretty much everything about these boys has been my most expensive doll purchase. I hope it will be worth it!
