Pony Corral / Re: The Fakie Appreciation Thread! Show us yer Fakies!
« on: October 11, 2020, 11:51:11 AM »
I got some new Lucky Ponies recently and wanted to share! They've got a few symbol rubs here and there, but on these fakies I really don't mind.  :P

Pony Corral / Re: Has Friendship is Magic impacted you in any way?
« on: October 11, 2020, 11:43:16 AM »
Yeah it has! When I started watching it as a teen, I was like, "oh yeah, I had some old pony toys as a kid! Wonder where those went...". After years of watch FIM and wondering about those lost toys, I rediscovered them hidden back in my closet. Finding those old toys is what kicked off my decision to become a vintage toy collector, and got me into going to flea markets with my dad, something he had already been doing for years. It really helped strengthen my bond with him over collecting cool toys, and not feeling as ashamed for wanting to collect toys as an adult. Deciding to collect G1 and vintage fakes is what encouraged me to join this forum too.  :P

I never really got involved with the FIM fanbase/community or merch while watching the show, aside from listening to all of the cool fan music that was created! I guess you could say joining this toy forum ended being my first experience integrating with the pony community, and it's been a pretty positive place! I will say my 2016 BF was a fan of the show too, which surprised me but it was so much fun to talk about it with him, he was super nice.

Definitely flea markets! On certain lucky days I come across a toy booth! I rarely find anything at thrift stores (mainly goodwills where I am), and I have never found anything at a garage sale, sadly. :(

Pony Corral / Re: Solitarily liking ponies?
« on: September 11, 2020, 06:31:07 AM »
I don't have anyone in my RL age group to discuss collecting vintage children's toys, nor would I really dare to bring it up with friends, but my dad is a collector of diecast and sometimes we go looking for collection items together. Because he is also a collector of sorts, I feel much more comfortable occasionally discussing pony stuff, but even then I really only scrape the surface of my interests with family. It's just too hard to share things I like that I feel family wouldn't respond positively to, even if they're not mean about it.

I think takaras are wonderful and part of that is because I'm into fakies. Real takaras are very hard to come by, and I geniunely regret not talking about them to my aunt and uncle back when they lived in Japan, though I wasn't even collecting anything back then!

I find as a collector it's very lucky the internet has come around, as there are many other platforms to share your collection now such as this very Arena!

I personally don't think I'll be getting these but it's a cool concept? I might consider it if they start producing a larger variety of characters. I'm in the same boat wondering why they decided to make them, but it's certainly different!

Pony Corral / Re: What's your favorite fakie brand?

Lucky Ponies by Meritus are my favorite, I also think Sunshine Ponies are pretty cool!

Edited again, haven't bumped in a while so might as well!

Wow, that crazy! I love it, and hope I can find a cool discolored pony for myself!

Pony Corral / Re: Non pony species- what is your favorite?
« on: June 16, 2020, 06:27:00 PM »
Dinosaurs. I'd imagine as big reptiles they'd have a similar origin backstory to dragons, but they'd be freakishly strong, restricted to living in specific climates (hate the cold), and behaviors/communities would not have the emphasis on hoards and treasure. Since they don't appear to be an existing race in G4 and G1 only has Cutesaurus, I figure they're either isolationists, misidentified as another dragon subspecies, critically endangered, or remnants of a bygone era where they're seen in modern day equestria as rare and elusive, cryptids, myths or extinct. FIM does have a filly with a fossil symbol and she refers to the unearthed skeleton as a ponysaurus. Maybe because Cutesaurus had a symbol, it means dinosaurs and ponies shared the potential for expressing magic? Outside of equestria, I really couldn't say.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony mane massacres
« on: June 16, 2020, 12:01:40 PM »
I've had fakies who's rotted manes fell right out, but of actual Hasbro ponies I think my worst case so far was a very baity Sugarberry. Dried curly hair that's gotten crazy frizz never brushes out the same, and on top of that she had a terrible mane cut paired with lots of pindot. Such a shame.

There was also a Gingerbread who had some strands come out in clumps, but it wasn't enough to really leave visible bare spots, thank goodness.

Pony Corral / Re: So soft or Deflocked?
« on: June 15, 2020, 11:18:03 AM »
I don't really care for the so softs, they're often too muted my tastes and I don't really like the texture, but I wouldn't deflock unless the flocking was in poor condition. Even if I don't like them myself I'd rather preserve their condition for someone who does! That being said, I like admiring other collectors and their beautiful deflocking projects, most of which also start off in ratty flocking conditions.

Pony Corral / Re: What happened to your childhood pony?
« on: June 12, 2020, 04:50:53 AM »
They were just fakies, but the timeline goes like this. I played with them, got too old, still kept them in my room, eventually stored them in the basement, came back to clean up basement years later, debated donating them, ultimately didn't, moved them into the back of my closet, forgot about them for several more years, over time tons of stuff got piled up on top of the storage container, fim starts airing, remembered I had ponies and convinced myself I did donate them, looked for them in the basement in false hope, gave up the search, several more years pass, eventually cleared out my entire closet to clean and rediscovered them by chance.

Now they're on my bookshelf.  :P

Pony Corral / Re: G1 Collectors who collect non-nostalgically?
« on: June 11, 2020, 06:32:50 AM »
I'm younger than what I would say was the original group of collectors, who were kids that grew up with G1. I never owned G1, and while I did watch G1 on VHS at the time, I technically grew up in the age of G3. I never owned G3 either if I'm being honest, since I liked the G1 show better...but I did have a pair of knockoffs, one of which was in the original G1 mold. I was too young at the time to understand that my fake was in fact not a real, genuine G1 pony since I did not grow up with G1 in stores, haha. I did watch G4 as a teen, and after several years of enjoying it into adulthood I rediscovered my fakies that I thought I had donated years ago stored away. That's what reignited my collecting of fakies and now G1, though I have a handful of G3 and G4 as well!

The Dollhouse / Re: Wishlists discussion!
« on: March 27, 2020, 01:35:23 PM »
My doll wishlist isn't really on here, but it consists of monster high, ever after high, bratzillas, pinkie cooper, moondreamers, SSC clones, furry families

I'm thinking of getting a furby too, but they're just so expensive!

My pony wishlist in my sig is mostly G1 (which I prefer to find myself second hand), vintage fakies (Lucky ponies, Sunshine ponies, Nostril fakies), dinosaurs and other Meritus animal toys.

Pony Corral / Re: Is having an army of ponies selfish? let's discuss
« on: December 27, 2019, 11:11:29 AM »
I'm trying for an army of Baby Apple Delights, but I've only got two at the moment and one is bait. :P  So much for that!

I don't really feel selfish about it, as my primary collecting targets are fakies! But, if I were to find another one in person and someone else, be it kid or adult, was thinking about getting it I would wait until they've decided to really go for it. Especially if it's a kid, regardless of whether I have the pony already or not!

I have been in the position where someone has bags full of ponies and has left none for anyone else, but that's a little different than armies I guess.
