Pony Brag Arena / Amazing Pony Haul & Green Eyed Gingerbread (pic heavy)
« on: October 27, 2019, 03:29:19 PM »
Been a while since I posted a brag thread on here, I usually just post to IG since it's easier but I had to mention this haul! It's probably the best deal I've gotten as of yet on ponies! A bit of context, I was in an antique mall and found two dirty boxes, one with ponies and one with pony accessories, some broken. Pony box was $16, accessory box was $8. I go up to the counter to pay, and it turns out the boxes were half-off their listed prices! I also found Valenshy separately for $2 in the same place, so in total I paid around $15 for everything. EVERYTHING!!!

(my camera is garbage by the way, excuse the low quality pics)

And all the ponies! Pretty Beat, Tuneful, Sugar Apple, Caramel Crunch, Valenshy, Baby Woolly, Baby Stockings, Baby Rainfeather, Baby Snookums, and Twins Milkweed and Bumbleweed. There are some flaws I might post later, but that's okay.

Finally, just today I found another Hong Kong Gingerbread at a toy show. I was like, great, an upgrade for my poor stained Gingerbread! But when I put them side by side, I noticed her eyes are completely different! They're green!

Pony Corral / Ponies at Toy Shows/Fairs?
« on: September 30, 2019, 11:47:57 AM »
I was curious about people's pony luck at toys shows. Have you ever scored at one? Found a fellow collector? Maybe had a booth yourself? I'm not talking about a my little pony fair, or a get-together. Just an advertised event that states it's a toy show.

In my experience, whenever I try out a toy show, it usually has tons of diecast, model trains, hotwheels and action figures. Lots of adult guy collectors that are middle aged or older. It's very rare to see any girl toys, and no ponies. When I look at fliers advertising 'Toy Show!' there may or may not be a list of items that might be there. Usually something along the lines of 'cars, trains, lunch boxes, baseball cards, Star Trek, comics, vintage collectibles...and dolls'. One 'girl' toy might be mentioned in the flier, and it is always, without a doubt, dolls. The result of that, maybe one or two booths out of fifty that has like, three barbies each. Not even a variety of dolls, or even many barbies.

Every toy show I've attended has been fruitless. What's up with that?

I'd love to attend a toy show in my state with a high diversity of toys, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards for me!

Pony Corral / Questions for Traveling Ponies? (And other toys)
« on: August 21, 2019, 06:04:20 AM »
I really am a bit of a chicken when it comes to photographing my toys any place other than the privacy of my home. I'd like to get a bit more adventurous when traveling, but I just don't know how you'd go about it.

If you bring a pony on a road trip, what do you store them in? Do you bring a comb or something to protect their hair? A special camera? Any props? Do you just carry your pony in hand?

What happens when you take a toy out in public? Do people stare, or mind their own business? Does anyone approach you? Do you take photos without caring, or real quick hidden ones when no one's around? Has anyone, stranger or otherwise, judged you for taking pictures of toys? What do you tell them if they ask about it?

The biggest idea is to just go out there and take a toy with you, yes, but does anyone have a process for it? Do you only take tiny toys, bigger ones? Something to clean them off with when in nature? And if it's a long trip, how do you make sure you don't ever accidentally lose the toy? :P ...that hasn't happened to anyone here, has it?

I guess these questions apply to any toy photographer, be it pony, doll, plush, anything!

Pony Corral / Sunfading a Sparkle Pony?
« on: August 16, 2019, 03:48:18 PM »
I recently got this Skyrocket, who's in pretty okay condition...except their former owner got carried away with the marker!

They've got lipstick and stars on one side. Not that the colors don't compliment the pony, but are Sparkle Ponies safe to sunfade? Do you think these marks will come out?

Arts & Crafts Corral / Some Pony Heads (eyestrain)

Warning for some eyestrain.

Did some cartoony pony heads for my characters based off of the fakie line Lucky Ponies!

These were fun to make and give each one their own little personality.

Pony Corral / Help cleaning gross tail and adhesive
« on: February 22, 2019, 01:06:23 PM »
I recently obtained a dirty, well-played with Princess Tiffany. I'm working on cleaning her up to the best of my ability. I've hit a wall though, mostly with her tail. On the end of her tail there is something brown and crusty, I'm guessing it could be food. :/

I'm not sure what would be safe to use on getting it out of her tail. Regular dish soap isn't working, and the crust is too tangled to brush it out properly. Is oxyclean safe if I'm just dunking her tail?

She also had a few colorful gem stickers stuck on her. They peeled off easily, but some of the adhesive was left behind. Anything I could use to remove this without damage? Would goo gone work?

Pony Corral / Brown Spots on So-soft Gusty? (Pic heavy)
« on: June 05, 2017, 11:44:21 AM »
I recently came into possession of a So-soft Gusty, and her flocking is in okay condition. Nothing looks to be rubbed off as a far as I know. She was a bit dirty, mostly on her left side so I decided to give her a very careful bath. There was only a little improvement, but since this is my first so-soft I'll take what I can get.

Unfortunately she also appears to have little brown spots in various places that don't seem to be dirt. This may turn out to be something obvious, but I'm still new to pony collecting and I'm not entirely sure what they are. Is this rust, mold, or something else?:

Any way to get rid of it, will it spread? Her neck is still sealed with glue, so I haven't tried to pull it off to check if there may be any internal issues. Would a second bath be advised? I used hand soap and then conditioner on her body with cold water, and just conditioner for her hair.

Pony Corral / Stories to explain bad conditions?
« on: January 03, 2017, 08:50:29 AM »
So after finding my two childhood fakies who were lost for years, I've cleaned them up! I also had a wooden stable that has been down in the basement for years as well. I can't remember if it was stored or just left to it's own to sit, but that basement has unfortunately flooded several times. My mother made a comment recently on how a mini wooden tree house also down there could be in great condition, or it could be rotting away and we'd never know it. I haven't been down to check as our basement is a cross between an uncarpeted horror maze and a box filled hazard. Since the stable is also made of wood, it could be rotting too. :c

To prepare myself for this potential loss, I decided to write a little drabble about my ponies in the condition they were found in.

Here are the only 'before' pictures I have, for reference:

The mini story:

The top of a hill is brought into view. It is no longer a picture perfect spot for a picnic, there is no longer lush green grass swaying in the gentle breeze, nor a bright sunny day.

The hill top is in the middle of a heinous storm, and between the rough, battering winds everything is a  dreary washed-out grey.

Upon the hill a figure appears. It is a pink pony. As she makes her way to the top, she staggers before regaining her balance and reaches her destination. Her colorful mane is swept up and splayed out unflatteringly behind her back, revealing a prominent head wound.

The three yellow hearts on her haunches seem very out of place, as the pony is neither lovely nor cheerful. She stands on the hill, her motions stopped. She is clearly exhausted, but does not make any effort to sit down. She is waiting for another.

Trailing close by our pink mare is a smaller pony, who is practically dragging herself up the hill at this point. Her purple body is caked in mud and dirt, as if she had slipped several times during her journey. The horseshoes displayed across and beyond her flank are hard to make out beneath all of the grime.

She curses the rain for being so incessant, and her once long pink locks are now a tangled mess from trailing across the ground in the muck.

The smaller pony is just as miserable as the first, but as she meets her companion at the hilltop it becomes clear why she had become so dirty; her eyes are unusually positioned, almost cross-eyed but away from the bridge of her nose. She simply could not see straight through the thick sheets of water pouring down.

There is a hike in her step as she reaches the larger pony waiting for her and shouts to be heard over the wind:

Miss n' Chance: Look!

Both ponies turn to the scene left behind them. Beyond the hill is a barn caught up in a treacherous flood, and in the process of being torn apart debris swirl haphazardly around.

Miss n' Chance: Our home!

The larger pony does not respond at first, before pulling the smaller mare away.

Limone Mellow: We have to find shelter! We made it to high ground, but we can't be stuck out here!

Miss n' Chance: But what about my family? They were supposed to come live with us! She wailed.

Limone Mellow continues to guide her friend away from the disaster.

Limone Mellow: W-we'll find them!--Later! We can still do that, just like we planned! We need to find a new home first!

Miss n' Chance: But what if they come here and don't find us? What if they think we're dead? WHAT IF THEY WERE ALREADY HERE AND GOT SWEPT AWAY?! She cried.

Limone Mellow: They're smart, just like you! They probably delayed their travels because of the storm! They are alright, Miss!

She desperately reassured the panicking mare, but truly knew nothing of the sort.

Miss n' Chance: But what about your family? How will they know you're alright?

Limone Mellow started, before gazing at the ground. She looked far away.

Limone Mellow: It doesn't matter!

Miss n' Chance: But what if they assume the worst?

Limone Mellow: They can think what they like! It's NOT our concern!

Miss n' Chance: But--

Limone Mellow: Missy please! The pony begged. The barn's gone, let's GO!

The purple mare did not press it anymore. They both made a mad dash to get out of the storm.

So, does anyone have made-up stories about how your ponies got in unfavorable conditions? Have you fixed them since, or tried to work with their misfortunes?

Introductions / Hi everyone!
« on: December 27, 2016, 09:05:02 AM »
I just got the acceptance mail, so I'm finally on this forum!

Well, there's a few reasons I decided to sign up. I watched the G1 show as a kid, and have been watching the G4 show since! So I love the characters and story. I haven't thought to buy the merchandise, but it certainly looks cool!

But on most site forums I'm a lurker, so what really prompted me to join was Christmas. It was Christmas Day, and I was cleaning out my closet. Long story short, I ended up finding an old box full of my childhood toy horses and the fold-up wooden fence that would connect to this wonderful wooden stable stored down in my basement.

You can guess a wave of nostalgia crashed over, as I had believed I had given these away when I cleaned out the basement several years ago.

Many of the horses aren't mlp, but I found the two I remember playing with, a pink one and a purple one.

Turns out they actually aren't legitimate mlp, but look similar.

Even so I really missed them, so now I'm working on restoring them the best I can. The pink one has a really bad red stain on her forehead left from an unfortunate accident, and the purple one was quite dirty. They both have marks in various places too, but I've cleaned them up, disassembled them without issue, and got the stain to dull a little with toothpaste.

Anyhow, I guess I'm using the forum in my research to learn how to fix them. I don't plan on getting more, but cleaning them up was a really cathartic way to spend Christmas, so maybe the next time I'm at Goodwill I'll check out the toy section?

Now I'm just working on identifying what they actually are and where they came from! Sorry for such a long intro, but I just was so excited to find them again.
