The cutie mark crusaders and the tubs of Jelly
« on: April 07, 2012, 09:23:56 AM »
Okay being English it took me an age to work out what tubs of jelly are. I think there Jam...jelly here is a desert mostly poured into molds then eaten...Jame is made of fruit and then mostly put on toast. My other half corpsed that it took me so long to work out that the tubs of jelly meant jam men.
Also am I the only one who just wishes these little fillies would get it over with, i nkow their young and all but to be honnest their eppisodes are getting a little repetative for me.
Any one got any theories on how their gonig to get their cutie marks?

I've known for some years but I remember wondering why Americans would put jelly on a sandwich with peanut butter (although jam and peanut butter doesn't sound much better - sorry! xD)
Jelly in America is jello.

Peanut butter and grape jelly (jam, or also called preserves) sandwiches are a staple for American kids, particularly for school lunches, unless obviously they're allergic. :) You're right, what you would call jelly we'd call jello after the brand name product. I can't imagine eating peanut butter with jello either!

I love talking about differences in what you call food and consider edible!

As for the CMC, I have to admit I really like them. I think they're adorable. :) I think Sweetie Belle's mark will be like G3 Lulabelle's, the pretty bells since she's a singer and bells "sing" - and it matches her name. Scootaloo in G3 has a butterfly cutie mark, which I guess could work for G4 Scootaloo if it's a really fast butterfly...otherwise I'd think hers would be her scooter, since she's good at that. And I guess Apple Bloom's mark could be apple flowers, but I really like the idea of her mark being a zap apple, since she seemed good at making zap apple jam.
Collecting G1 and G3 since 2005

Here in the US, Jelly is basically your jam. Jam here is the same as Jelly, just with seeds or parts of the fruit inside it.

That would be confusing. In North America, jelly is a preserve made of fruit juice and has a gelatinous form. Jam is made from crushed fruits, and is also a preserve, so they are pretty similar.

Now I am craving marmalade, lol!

Yep, I love the CMC and wish at least one of them would get a cutie mark. They are already great at stuff!

I grew up in england and I ate peanut butter and jam sandwiches all the time! Also peanut butter and lemon curd, that's still a favorite!

BrightIdea has it on the money! In the States (and I'm assuming Canada!), "jelly" is the stuff made out of fruit juice and is smooth and gelatinous while "jam" is made out of actual fruits so it'll be chunkier in texture with seeds and fruit bits in it.

I actually prefer peanut butter sandwiches without the jelly! And I agree about banana and peanut butter sandwiches... so good...!

i think it's just for us when you say jelly we think of the thing you pour into molds and eat at parties. Jam is made from fruit and so on, I just find it intresting how two words can mean the same thing and yet diffrent things. I have to admit though I want a wall apaper of the pony in the jam, it looked funny.

  I love American English and Britsh English word mix ups. It is funny that two countries with the same main lauguage have diffrent meanings to there words. Confusing but funny.
