My avatar kept disappearing, and then it wouldn't let me load for some reason. I was able to add it as a link, but it's all stretched wide... am I doing something wrong? Please and thanks for any advice you can give me!

Mine has disappeared as well Dx. I wonder if it has anything to do with the site malfunctions earlier today?

It's the result of the server move earlier today. I can't speak with absolute certainty or anything, but I have a strong hunch it will be worked on and restored soon. As for the stretching, it seems when you link to your avatar from off site, it automatically resizes the image to 150 x 150, no matter its original dimensions.

I tried to reupload my avatar but it didnt work :[ ahhwell. Maybe itll be back to normal tomorrow!

I had to use the url option for my Avatar but since it doesn't like the %20s from the url location I had to move it to another location to get it to work :|

I can see everyone elses, but not mine. It makes me a sad panda, as I actually don't have a copy of that avatar on this computer, so there is nothing I can do. :(

I can see yours xeevee so I have just grabbed the thumb size version of it...do you want me to upload it here for you although I am sure once the gallery corrects itself you ll see it again.

Ahh, good I checked before I asked very same thing! I have now uploaded it again (or a similar one) from photobucket but it says it's not there, so I suppose it's just a matter of time until it gets restored! Thanks SDS!

Mine still does not work... I deleated it, because uploading again did not help and i wanted to see if the change would be saved this way. It did (i think?)
Will upload again when problems are fixed..hopefully soon.

Mine's still gone as well, and I tend to recognize people more by their avatars than their name, so it gets really confusing. Are they going to come back, or should I just give up on having an avatar again? For like the first year I was here I didn't have an avatar because I didn't feel like finding one and uploading it. And I don't have a backup of mine, either, so I hope they'll come back.

I can see yours fine, but about six others in this thread, including myself appear to not have avatars.
EDIT: Aaand, it's gone. That's so weird. I could see your avatar, but when I refreshed the page to see if there were any new replies, your avatar vanished.

Can anyone see mine? I had thought it was something wrong on my end and tried to re-upload it, but of course, that didn't work, so now I'm wondering if I accidentally got rid of my avatar entirely, on top of not being able to see it myself.

Good thing it wasn't just me! I thought it was my computer, was about to post about it, but then I saw that you all had already. Mine's a red x in a box, and when I tried to change it, I got this message:
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
I was also having issues viewing the Arena on my iPod the other day. Other than the Home and Forum buttons, every other button at the top of the screen dissapeared, and most of the symbols and images throughout the site were gone as well. Was this caused by the same thing?

Those who can still see images are either seeing the cached version from the memory of their browsers, or else the avatars are linked from off site. So if you refresh, many will disappear.

I am getting this error too. I wanted to change my avatar and I can't...

As explained, the error only comes up when you are trying to upload from your computer. If you link it from Photobucket or similar, it will work.
The reason it doesn't work to upload (and any existing uploaded avatars) were stored in the Gallery, which is sitting on the old server. Chief is working on locating it and moving it over.

Uh, kinda related.. It keeps oversizing my avatar.. just for reference, trying to use this : http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy166/cookiegirl200/KR1.gif it should be a 50x50

The forum software automatically resizes linked images to 150 x 150. I wish it only made images larger than that the correct size, but it also makes smaller images larger. :| Sorry about that.

It's odd, I can't see anyones avatar except SDS and hatrocats and the original poster. And yet others here say they can see others avatars O.o I can't lol. Other than those none is working for me - including my own.

I just changed mine to photobucket so you should be able to see mine, Desert Rose. I think the icons others are seeing are either hosted off site or they are still in the individuals cached images. If you can't see anyone's it probably means your computer cleared your image cache.

It's the weirdest bug ever. My guess is because it's cached, but then that doesn't quite cover why we can't see our own too. Why would it cache lots of others avatars and not your own?

I tried to change my avatar and now I don't have one. I keep getting a message that the directory is not writeable. Any help is appreciated.

Is my avatar too big? I can't tell and I have like..NO software to resize the darn thing.
photobucket decided that the ability to resize images was not longer a necessary thing for it's users. :/
Didn't want to restart a whole thread for just one avatar. :)
