Why do some Big Brother ponies have different names?
« on: June 08, 2014, 05:32:27 AM »
Just bought another BB and this question is in my mind - for example, Tug/Salty and Steamer/Tracks. Which is the right name? Are they different per country or something?

Both names are correct. One is the American Name, one is the UK name
and they aren't alone - the 2 petite ponies that came with the castle also have different names ;)

There are quite a few ponies who changed names from one side of the ocean to the other [excluding the name changes which happened in countries where English is not the first language] - you have big brothers, tropical ponies, rainbow curl ponies, cuddles from the magic message ponies, sugarberry from the taf ponies, a lot of the newborn twins and several more.

Its just cultural; what works on one side of the ocean simply does not work on the other, or was judged to not be as effective on the other.

Slugger is a good example. The word Slugger is very American and not necessarily something which would have been understood over here at the time; therefore he became First Base [which perhaps it now has a different connotation :P] but at the time would have been more understood to UK shoppers.

So both names are right as Roogna says, it just depends on where you are from which you call them :)

The US and the UK already has plenty of different names for the same things, so a few ponies changing kind of makes sense too :)

Ah okay I thought it might be cultural  :) How can I find out which is which? Like, Steamer and Tracks both make sense  :)

Most of the main pony websites have both names listed.

Taffeta's Scrapbook is great for having the UK names of the ponies listed - http://www.etherella.com/scrapbook/

So they are not called Sundrop and Magic Star in the UK? I need ask what they where - I never heard of this before.
I'm looking to buy Port-o-Bella. Please email me.

The two "castle" petites are Princess Moondust and Kingsley in the UK.  Kingsley is a boy.  :)  (He's the white one.)

I use the names depending on where they came from in my collection - for instance Princess Pearl obviously came from a UK seller, as did Strawberry Fair, but Steamer was from a US seller.
