I was just wondering what year mail order ponies were released? I have a mail order sunspot for sale and I always include the generation, the year, and the year it was stamped.
I'm having trouble seeing what the stamp says on the bottom of her hoof
So:
Generation 1, year 2, made in 1983

The year is the mould date. The wiki says they were made between 88-89.
-
Taff's site says 1988 and UK stuff is a bit different timeline wise but I'd be inclined to go with 1988 if you like to pick one specific date.

Year meaning 1st year, 2nd year, etc. So cotton candy for example was made in 1982 but would be year one since she was made during the first year.
And I did see that mylittlewiki showed the standard ones during that time, so were the mail order versions released during the exact same year?
-
Wiki says Year 7.

The sparkle ponies' mail order pamphlet itself is dated 1987, so I imagine that would be the very first year they were released. The store-version sparkle ponies came along in 1988, but they were essentially concurrent with the mail orders. I guess you could call that Year 6 and Year 7 respectively, but I don't find the "Year X" categorization system super helpful personally.
MO Sunspot's hoof is dated 84, just like store Sunspot, and CJ and Raincurl and Shoreline and every other pony in that pose. It is meaningless in this regard. She was not "made in 1984" -- she wasn't even a glimmer in Hasbro's eye yet. She was made in 1987. Or possibly 1986 and sat in a warehouse for a couple months, but same difference. ;)
