Title: Least Favorite Gimmick
Post by: WaterDraw on April 22, 2018, 01:10:49 AM
G1 was home to a lot of gimmicks. Some of them ended up being personal favorites of mine (twinkle eyed ponies, flutter ponies, big brother ponies), and others, well, let's just say I don't care for them much.

My personal least favorites would have to be the Sea Ponies, Baby Sea Ponies, Drink n' Wet ponies, and any other pony associated or that revolved around water. I love water, but as some of you might know I am absolutely terrified of rust and mold. I know, I know, it seems like a petty reason, but because of that I'm not sure if I will ever be able to own any of these ponies.

I also don't like So Soft ponies but for a different reason. I like their gimmick, it's cute, but I wish they also sold separate, de-flocked versions of each pony (in America). Ponies I love such as Wind Whistler, North Star, and Paradise are so hard to find in good condition because just the slightest rub of the flocking could make them look bad. I prefer de-flocked over flocked ponies. Oh well.  :P

Well, what's your least favorite gimmick(s) and why? There are no wrong answers here!
(If this idea has already been done recently, please let me know and I will refer to the other topic.

I personally can't stand the mechanised ponies, like the BBE, Dance 'n Prance, and Happy Tail ponies.  The only exception I have would be the Brush 'n Grows, they're pretty and their mechanisations are discreet.  Also not a fan of the 3D symbol ponies, like the Precious Pockets and the Sundae Best.  They're just so silly.  But I will admit that the sundae best ponies have grown on me a bit over the years.

I liked the majority of their gimmicks. BBE and flutters are my two favorite sets. So sorta aren’t my favorites by any stretch, but I still enjoy them. It feels extra satisfying when you come across one is great condition. I guess the only ones I can’t really stand are the Dream Beauties. Big cheap plastic things that feed off the MLP popularity without being anything like actual MLPs.

So Softs are my least favourites due to the feel of them and they don't look very good to me (I prefer deflocked), also I don't really like Sparkle Ponies. Their sparkle made the colours look really dull and unsaturated.

Sundae Best. Scents and symbols...no for me. Just in general. Also bride ponies that have no other identity than being a bride...

Otherwise I am not too fussed about gimmicks.

It isn't G1, but the G4 where you look into their cutie mark and see a picture of their world? What the heck?  There is nothing about looking into anyone's rump design and seeing a whole magical world that is ok.

The Sweet Kisses teens with lipstick and Dance n' Prance top my 'meh' gimmicks list.
And the eyelash Princesses.  Those caterpillars! D:

The precious pocket ponies are silly, as well as the ones who's back compartments open up.  They are banned from my herd, though I have one pocket pony I need to trade and get rid of.
I see a lot of dislike for the Sundae ponies, and I admit I don't like 3d symbols, but I do like this set.  I wonder if anyone has tried to customize by sanding down the symbol and replacing it with a painted version?

This! I wasn't even allowed to have toys that did stuff as a kid because they take away from imagination, so these features always look weird to me.

I really love most of the gimmicks. So-Softs, Twinkle Eyes, BBEs, etc...I love them all.

However, I don't really like the Secret Surprise ponies or the Surprise Twins pony. I just have this weird thing with animal toys that you are purposely supposed to open up on the regular. It makes me a bit squeamish. And yeah, I've been this way since I was little. I pretty much never used the piggy bank my parents got me when I was a kid. I think I even put tape over its 'cork' so it wouldn't open and just played with it like a regular toy. Something about toys with openings/compartments like that just...yeah, no.

I'm not sure whether I'd keep one if I found it in the wild, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to get one.

I'm guessing the symbol might be hollow, so it might be more a case of cutting out the symbol and using something to remodel (which is also fiddly)? I am just guessing - for me the scents are worse than the symbols for this set. ;) I love Sweet Scoops although she's so similar to Sorbet Surprise/Sherbet in colour and design - because she has no scent and her ice cream is nice and understated.

I have a soft spot for Pocket ponies. I thought them weird even when I was a kid. Still bought one though :)

The Drink and Wets. Even as a kid I never be saw the appeal of having a toy that pees and changing it's diaper (having three younger siblings might have something to do with that lol).

The BBEs for me. As a kid I always made her the outcast of the group or a sick pony everyone had to save/take care of. It sounds so mean! But, I think I found them unnerving, as I feel that way as an adult. Especially when their eyes yellow, but I think it's mostly do to how the plastic shapes around the eye.

Perfume Puffs-It looks like they've been stuck in a toy box for years and have uncurable frizzy matts, it drives me insane just looking at em.. Plus their colors are so dull.

BBEs I'd like to try and get Frosting and Lofty though, I hear they don't look so bad in person. Maybe it'll help me with my mild blinky eyed doll phobia?

Ballerinas-They look weird.

Dance n Prance What a shame, they're such a pretty set..

Both sets of Sweet Kisses-I don't like their names, or colors.

Great Hair and Hair-do Ponies-Sorry, no offense to those who like them, but I think they're ugly.

Eyelash Princesses-I don't hate them, I just think they're hilarious! I wouldn't have either of them though.

Teeny Tinies- I can't stand their faces, symbols or names.

Soda Sippins-What a shame, they're beautiful ponies and their accessories are so fun looking

Fancy Pants Babies-Printed on clothes annoy me and panty ponies are very awkward. I do however own a cute, moulded on fancy pants fakie from Tara Toys. She's so silly!

Sweetheart Sisters-With the exceptions of a few, Sundazzles, Wildflower and Pretty Belle the SHS are really dull and boring.

I dislike beddy-bye-eye ponies, but only because if their eyes get dirty it seems nearly impossible to clean. They're cute otherwise, but man are they hard to maintain.

Probably the Sippin' Soda ponies, simply due to the misplaced hole in their upper lips. The gimmick itself is cute, but the mouth holes being in the wrong spot really bugs me.

Oh my gosh that is so weird I did the EXACT. SAME. THING. with my one BBE. It didnt help that she had her face also chewed on by my cousin's dog. But she was always the sickly outcast.

I just dont like BBE. Still. When I was young I hated the SS ponies and would try to rub their flocking off but now I wish I hadnt because the SS are now my favorites.

How could I have forgotten about BBE! The ponies that scared me away from g1 for the longest time!
I'm also not a fan of the Dance and Prance ponies or the Perfume Puff ponies. The Dance and Prance ponies look just so....weird when they're doing their main function and I'm not a fan of the colors of the Perfume Puff ponies.

I'm not a fan of the Fancy Pants babies, those printed-on grunners creep me out.
Magic Message ponies aren't my thing because of that heat sensitive coating that so often takes on an extremely unpleasant brown colour and bubbly texture - talk about gross!
The Sweet Talkin' ponies aren't my cup of tea either because I just generally don't like talking toys much. When I was a kid, I had particular personalities in mind for various toys and if they had a set of stock phrases, then it kind of limited the possibilities of the character. :/
Also in regard to G2s, the Magic Motion ponies with the huge joints in their necks bug me - especially when there's a really pretty pony that's ruined by weird neck mechanism.

#1 Beddy bye eye ponies.  To me they look kind of spaced out plus the manes on the unicorn ones I have are stuck up in mohawk mode.
#2 The ones with rooted eyelashes.  In my eyes look like someone who has overdone the mascara and ended up with tarantula lashes.
#3 I love the movement of the Dance and Prance ponies and they're a gorgeous set but I loathe that knob.
#4 The hole in the mouth of the Soda Sippin' ponies annoys me.

Any gimmick that encouraged kids to stain their ponies like putting hippo toenails and lipstick on them. And BBEs for the stoned expressions and bad choice of having generic doll eyes.

In G2 I greatly dislike the ones that have a tiny magnet spot on their nose. The magnet shouldn't have been visible.

Also not a fan of the silly faced G4s (allthough I think they only made Pinkie and RD). They can join the BBEs in a room together with Father Damien Karras.

I don't like the second set of Princess Ponies and their tinsel forelocks. Their colors don't appeal to me, either.
I also don't like the Dance and Prance ponies. Their colors are nice, but the knobs on the chest ruin it.

I've hated a lot of gimmicks only to suddenly change my mind about them.  I *detested* the Dance 'n Prance ponies as a kid.  Absolutely hated everything about them when I saw them in stores, and it carried on like that for years.  Then I went to my first ponymeet - and saw one in action for the very first time.  It was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen...and I was in love from that moment on:p     I still think the knob is ugly, but there's nothing funnier than a fully functional Dance 'n Prance pony doing its thing!  They have to be fully functional for me to want them, but if they work I love them!

A similar thing happened with that pregnant mommy pony.  I didn't like her at all for years.  I did like the babies a lot(so cute!), but the mommy - ugh.  I found the whole concept slightly disturbing, and I didn't think she was that attractive.  Then I started to get serious about filling in some holes in my UK/Euro collection.  Just about that time she *really* jumped in price, and I figured that if I was ever going to get her, I should probably do it before she really got out of hand.  Someone was offering a working one with *3* babies for trade, and she wanted things I had on hand.  I decided to go for it.  When I finally got her and saw her in action for the first time in my life - love at first sight!  Again!  I put one of the babies in, "cocked" her belly, and pushed the button.  That baby shot out like a missile, and it was the funniest darn thing I'd ever seen.

There are other lines I originally didn't like, but eventually came to love.  The Teeny Tiny ponies disturbed me as a kid - now I think they're cute.  The Fancy Pants ponies didn't do it for me back in the day, but now they're some of my favorites.

However, there are quite a few lines that I still don't like, and may never really get into.  I don't like the Soda Sippin' Ponies, or as I call them the "bj ponies"  *cough*.  I don't like any of the ballerina ponies.  They're just ugly looking to me.  The molds are just bad.  I had a few BBE ponies as a kid, and I was pretty indifferent to them, but they are pretty fugly and I don't really like them.  If something is available in a non-BBE version, I *always* go for that one.  I never saw the appeal of the Drink 'n Wet ponies.  I've ended up with all of them making their way into my hands some way or another, and they just get put straight into the trade bin whenever I get them.  I never was much into the Dream Beauties except for the set with wings, though I don't particularly dislike them.  It's more that I'm not really interested enough to pay the prices and suffer the misery of trying to collect them all.  I *really* dislike those huge Soft Sleepy Newborn ponies.  They're just terrifying!

There are few lines that I've never really liked, but they're starting to maybe shift over to thinking about keeping a few of them.  I never liked the Sweetheart Sister style ponies - any of them. But I've been collecting their accessories, and I keep getting more of them in.  They go straight into the trade bin, but some of them have sort of caught my eye.  I also don't like boy ponies(any of them) as a rule, but I've ended up with a few while picking up accessories.  Those have been placed in what I call "collection limbo".  They're not really part of the collection, but they're also not in the trade bin.  I don't know what to do with them yet, so I just hold on to them.

Dance and Prance-I don't like the knob in their neck

Secret Surprise ponies-I think Hasbro must have been trying to make a pony version of Keypers but for some reason I think Keypers are a lot cuter than Secret Surprise ponies.

Drink n Wets -although I think this bothers me more and adult than it did as a kid.

Adult ballerina ponies-Why are their symbols placed on her backs?

Mine has to be the eyelash princesses - I think of "40 lashes!" every time I l look at them.visitors can't see pics , please register or login
 (https://ibb.co/f7YbZH)

Also the So Softs - these things were not built to last. Obviously all that flocking is gonna rub off or get dirty. And then there's the second set, where the glue automatically yellows with age.

I don't particularly like eyelash princesses either, and I find the scented ones breathtaking in the worst way. Haha
I wish they would have been made without the gimmiks. But... there is one pony which I would not want in my collection even if I could get her for free - and that is the Surprise Twins pony. I prefer anything that has to do with pregnancy, giving birth and such not to get into my near surroundings. Just not my pony. At. All. Glad she's so rare, that way I'm pretty safe not to get her by accident.  :silly:

G1- BBEs for sure... I don't like the way their eyes bulge out of their heads, it does make them look sickly.
I also really can't stand drink 'n' wets and fancy pants babies because of the implication of bodily functions. I... don't want to think about my magical, rainbow coloured horse toys having to go to the toilet, lol.

G2- Sooo many G2s are ruined for me by the Magic Motion mechanisms. So many of them just look plain awkward with the modifications.

G3- The 'so soft' talking baby dolls... ick

G4- Oh man there's a lot of bad gimmicks in G4 x) I think my most hated is cheaply half-painted on clothes. If you are going to paint the clothes on, at least make it cover the whole body, not just half a leg!!

G2s:
Magic Motion Ponies-They ruined so many beautiful ones.

Hair changing ponies- It's such a stupid idea and the tails look awful.

G3s:
Whoever that G3 is that can be taken apart in the middle.

3.5 Newborn Cuties-Ponies don't crawl Hasbroken.

3.5 Period-Uglier

Lily Lightly-Poor pony. She's so pretty too, but ruined by a creepy gimmick. Wish there'd been a regular Lily Lightly.

G4-Bead hair ponies. Hasbro, do you need sense smacked into you?

First set of jointed ponies-They look like creepy marionettes with their strings cut.

Pop Ponies that you put together-The plastic is dreadful.

Funko Pops-This is more to do with the fact that I hate funko pops because they're creepy, ugly and ruin every franchise they touch.

Mane Six reboot x Infinity + Ad naseum-Screw you Hasbro!

Reboot G4- ugliest of them all.

Painted Clothes-Boo!

Thank GOD someone else agrees with me! Every single anime/collector/comic/toy store has walls filled with these ugly hunks of junk. They got rid of the sailor moon section in Think Geek to put up a wall of these.

Their dead eyes are scary and so nasty to me. I hate them. why are there so many? The vendors hall at conventions have so many of these and not enough good merchandise

I don't think I dislike any gimmicks so much as I dislike how some hold up to play. Like flocking is fine if it looks pristine and beddy bye eyes are ok if they haven't rusted. However many ponies with those gimmicks don't look as nice as they did fresh out of the box or in stock photos.

G1 BBE

G2 n/a

G3 the extra long haired ponies, not that when nice they're really pretty but I've only found some second hand and...wow are they a pain/impossible to restore to what they were

G4 (what I mainly collect) I don't mind painted on clothes since I usually keep all my ponies in box. but one I can't STAND is just mane 6 ponies. I mean I get it it's what sells but give me boy ponies, background characters, blind bag characters. I've secretly been dying for a Pepper Dance brushable since wave 1 of the blind bags :(

So Soft ponies! There are so many SS ponies that I would like in regular non-fuzzy form, such as Paradise and Ribbon. But every time I buy a bait SS pony to deflock, when it arrives I think, oh, it's not actually that damaged, I can't justify deflocking, I'll just clean her up....my resulting accidental SS collection is actually quite pretty, but I do find them to be frustrating ponies! Why couldn't you just make non-fuzzy versions of them all as well, Hasbro??

Agreed on Funko Pop ponies. And Fashems, what's the idea of them? I just want ponies, not strange squishy big-headed things!

Electronic gimmicks and mechanised parts, on the other hand, I just find fun and/or amusing. Bring me your talking ponies, your Dance n Prance ponies, your light-up ponies! I have even been seen in the Tesco's toy aisle deriving inordinate amusement from those G4s where you press a button and their hoof lights up and shoots up in the air.

I don't like scented ponies. At all, from any generations. I have problems with my nose where I struggle to breathe through it, so the rare occasion that I can, I get a nose full of over powering scented pony smell. It's horrible

there aren't many gimmicks I HATE, just don't care for- like the Princess Ponies with the tinsel forelock, I don't think they're awful, they just don't appeal to me.

I wouldn't mind the Surprise Twins pony much if A) she and her brood looked more like an MLP and not a fakie, and B) the proportions weren't SO weird! huge mom and tiny TINY babies? I loved my Puppy/Kitty/etc Surprise plushes (my sis and I had like four each) so the idea doesn't bother me even though it's dopey. the Surprise Twins ponies just don't look like they're even made by Hasbro.

I don't like BBE but I don't loathe them either. I like Frosting well enough. tbh their mold is worse than their eye mechanism! when people de-BBE them they still look ugly to me because of their awkwardly stretched neck and half-open mouth. ugh.

I don't care for the adult ballerina ponies, they look awkward, but I love the baby ones. I wouldn't mind the mega-eyelash Princess if the lashes were better quality, cleaner like BBE lashes are.

Also guilty of playing with electronic toys in the Tesco/insert store name here toy aisle.

I have a love/hate with batteries because of the risk of corrosion and the difficulty in posting them - but I have no real issue with most of the gimmicks themselves xd.

Magic message due to the damage sustained by their symbols over time.  Dance 'n Prance-either mine don't work or I do not know how to use them.  Knobs are annoying to see on them.  BBE babies-don't hate them, just seems pointless.  Also, think they would look better as NBBE.  Happy tails too-probably just don't know how to work them, but hate how tangled the tails can get if the hair gets caught when they twist.  The more mechanical gimmicks are the ones I do not care for the most.

The pocket G1s.   Honestly, 3D symbols are what made me stop asking for ponies as a kid.  But pocket ponies really bothered me as I always imagined "real" counterparts to ponies running around in ponyland somewhere.  The idea of the pocket disturbed me.

There were plenty of sets that at the start of my collecting career I didn't ever see myself getting - I saw a lot of the gimmicks as really, gimmicky.

But honestly, over time, and as these various ponies have found their way to my - primarily by way of lots, not actively buying them - I totally get turned around and find myself enjoying them. Perfume Puffs were my first example - thought they were utterly ridiculous to begin with and now I just love them. Now as the more unusual G1's find their way to me I just find myself appreciating the fanciful and sometimes ridiculous charm they bring :)

Having said that, I still struggle with the BBE's a tad. There's only a couple more I need to get before I have them all, but they'll never be my favourites - the blinky eye and strange mould is just... strange, and I just don't think it works. And I've never had any actually go through my hands, but the drink n wet babies look odd too. Guess I'll see if I change my mind when I finally get one!

I would genuinely love to have an army of perfume puffs. I absolutely adore that hair and their scents are not nauseating <3. Their hair is really soothing to brush and can be made to look amazing.

I am still looking for a Dainty Dahlia in nice enough condition to adopt. She's the only one my sister has but I don't. One day!

After seeing the newest ponies, the one with the elongated body, ugh I forget what the gimmick is for it but I know the Songbird Serenade pony is one of them...(forces self to look for it) the spinning skirt thing, how they have the body is horrible... anyway, seeing lots of the recent G4 gimmicks, I'll take the gimmicks from the G1/G2/G3 line any day =P

It isn't G1, but the G4 where you look into their cutie mark and see a picture of their world? What the heck?  There is nothing about looking into anyone's rump design and seeing a whole magical world that is ok.

That would be the Magic Scenes, it's kinda like a view finder, minus the ability to flip through slides, as it only has one picture.

Here are her Rarity and my Rainbowdash. I rather like them and wish they'd made more then part of the Mane Six.

BBE: So creepy, I get why teh gimmick was popular/worked, but they are just freaky looking

Perfume Puffs: NOT a fan of these at all, they were literally teh last set I collected because I disliked them so much, the whole point of a pony to me is to have hair to brush, that poofy mess on their heads is just silly!

OTherwise i LOVE ALL the otehr gimmicks of the ponies!

I forgot about Perfume Puffs!

I actually really like the look of them, and I got one as a kid.  I was so excited to open it!  Then I got it open, and the smell hit me.  Those things have *exactly* the wrong smell for me.  Just being around them gives me a combination of horrific nausea and a terrible migrane.  Basically, they're tailor made to make me sick as a dog.  So, my one and only childhood Perfume Puff spent 6 months in a plastic bin covered in baking soda to try to get the smell out.

I tried again as an adult collector to pick up a few of them many years ago.  Unfortunately the ones I bought were in a bit too good of condition.  They've spent the last 15 years wrapped up in 6 layers of plastic bags at the bottom of my closet.  I can't be near them, but the collector in me thinks it's wrong to remove the smell that's supposed to be there:/   I don't know what to do with them.  One of them is Red Roses in pretty much pristine condition!

I still think they look cool though:/

The Flower Ponies-You know the twice as fancy ones? I think they're called Flower Swirls or something.

The Rock n Beats-The symbols are just-they don't look good. Too busy and the colors clash in the worst ways. Like you can do neon and wild, but the color choices still hafta be harmonious.

Rainbow Curls-This set is right up my alley with the soft, pastel, rainbow colors, stars and clouds and scrolls. There's a Sanrio/Care Bear element to them that I love...and yet there's something off-putting about that whole set. I can't bring myself to like them at all. I think the rainbow babies did it way better.

I don't like the Princess Brush n Grow set.

Most of the Cutie Mark Magic set bugs me. They just went overboard. And on one side too!

All About Mural Ponies are butt ugly.

I don't like the G3s with words on them.

I don't like most of the Art Ponies.

I don't like G3 or G4 Breezies. Some have great colors, but those faces!

G3 Merponies

MLP Animals, be they Hippogryffs, Pony Friends, Pretty Pals, G4 Pets.

Collector Ponies-They have wonderful colors. But that pose!  >_<  Even as I was excitedly looking at the 35th Anniversary set and squealing with excitement at G1s in the store, I couldn't love them enough to pick out one for myself.

Might I also add, I was never really a huge fan of tinsel hair ponies. I know that they're in every generation, so it's probably not a gimmick at this point, but I think it is....and I find it very hard to brush straight in most cases.

Oh man. Same. I think that they are hideous. I don't get why they had to make them look like that when they could have produced a normal looking pony for attendees.

Im glad that the 2018 pony fair is going with a normal simple G1 design

I like most gimmicks, but the BBE ponies are just too awful. Except Baby Lofty, I found her a couple of years ago in mint condition, and she's just so lovely. ^.^

I love the Rainbow Curls, but I have exactly the same problem with the Glow 'n Shows. They are everything I should love, except there's something terribly off about them. Maybe it's their colours, their symbols, I don't even know. :|

Too be honest I love a good gimic, I have no real problem with any of them. But upon thought G2 magic motion has caused me some issues recently...

I often asked myself why Hasbro chose to glue the heads of G1 ponies in place, i thought a spinning head would be better in terms of play for childen and posing for collectors. But i know know why...  :what:

Hair getting trapped in the neck.

My two G2s had masses of heair trapped in their neck and mecanism, so bad that i had to pull off their heads and pull each strand out one by one! The hair is free now but damaged irreparablely so :'(  :yikes:

Equestria Girls-They're ugly, they're cheap, they're awful. I know they were meant to compete with MH and the like, but What part of My Little Pony do you not understand Hasbro?

Fash ems or squish ems or whatever they're called.

Any plushies not in the G3 era.

It's interesting how that goes sometimes isn't it? Something ticks all the right boxes but we don't like it.

I love the Glow n Shows. So its neat that the we have mirror opposite opinions on two sets.

I love gimmicks since it adds variety.

And even if I feel pretty meh about a gimmick -- there's someone out there who likes it! So that's cool :)

I also think that batteries in toys can be a bummer since most parents (or children) wont think to change or remove the battery ... and 30 year old corroded batteries are yucky to clean up. >_< No thanks...

I agree with a lot of these:

The Flower Fantasy ponies look like victims of graffiti to me.

With the Rainbow Curls, I want to like Stripes and Steaky. I especially like Streaky's colors, but I just don't like those big awkward symbols.

I find anything with extra long or growing hair to be off-putting because it's more apt to get tangled up.

And the Collector ponies just make me think of Eeyore, just so depressed looking.

I do like the Rockin' Beats though. I know their colors are loud, but I'm partial to them because Sweet Notes was a childhood pony.

Also, CURLY HAIR. UGH. Long hair in general, since it's way more likely to frizz or tangle, but curly hair is the worst.

I love most of the gimmicks, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the precious pockets, the BBE and maybe the magic message. The BBE was a fun concept, but the execution just wasn't there... Those face molds, ai ai ai...

I feel like the odd one out here for liking BBE ponies :P But I love weird/uncanny things.

- I don't like the Twice as Fancy ponies, their symbols just cover too much of them.

- Drink n' Wets. I was never into baby dolls, especially ones that mess themselves.

- Ponies with painted on clothes, including the baby ponies with painted on diapers.

- G3's with Words on them. Absolutely can't stand that. Why would they want their own name tattooed on themselves?

- G4 Hippocampus. I refuse to call those things Sea Ponies considering that they're not even ponies to begin with. Is that even a gimmick? Oh well. There it is.

- Ponies with moving legs, it makes them look awkward.

- Art ponies. Most of them are just... too busy looking.

- Ponies that encourage cutting hair/slathering things on them

- I'm 50/50 on tinsel hair. In good condition, it looks really nice, but I don't trust myself enough to try and de-tangle tinsel.

Honestly, any pony with moulded clothes, that makes sounds, or has...eyelashes. *shiver*
Bizarre add ons don't do much for me.
I don't care much for any G1 ponies with joints or moulded shoes. I'm also not a huge fan of the Sweetheart Sister style of pony.
The ponies that are slightly larger than your standard G1 adult all bother me a little as well.
The scale is off when I look at them next to say, Minty, and it makes me twitch a little. x'D

Those ponies totally make me think of this scene from the Peanuts' Easter special if anyone remembers this

Talking and/or robotic ponies are the biggest NO for me. I will never own any ponies that can walk/talk on their own or anything of the sort. Even as a kid I was never fond of robot toys, I'd keep them turned off/batteries out and play with them normally.

I can't think of any other gimmicks I really dislike. (Except for G4*) Even things like the BBEs and Eyelash Princesses I can find some love in my heart for. (for mostly ironic reasons with those two, I think they look so silly that I can't help but love them and think they're funny) I do agree with almost everything that everyone has said here about them though and some of these replies are absolutely hilarious. :lmao:

*The thing with G4 gimmicks is they don't tend to add anything new. G1 gimmicks added new ponies with special properties or designs, like new breeds, Twinkle Eyes, pearly, glittery, etc. But they were new characters that happened to a bit more special.
Most G4 gimmicks are like... Twerlot Sporkle can talk now! Now she's a merpony! Now she's a humanpony! Now she's got WINGS! Now she's got glitter! And tinsel and ribbons in her hair! Now she's a robot! !!!KEEP BUYING TWERLOT SPORKLE!!! Etc.
They just keep doing the same Mane 6 over with ever so slightly tweaked designs.
They have had some awesome ones like the snowglobe ponies and merponies and stuff which I loved. And the return of pearly ponies once more! I just mean the majority of G4 gimmicks.
