site building software
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:10:16 AM »
Does anyone know of a good freebie site building software?  Dreamweaver is a bit out of my price range at the moment!  Are there any decent freebie knock off programs out there?

Well, I'm going to work on 2, one for my ponies and one for my other stuff.  (costuming, custom boutique kids clothing, accessories, etc.)

Awesome, thanks!  It's been years since I've had a site up so I'm really out of the loop.

Yeah.  Its called notepad---you should actually have it already ;)

Honestly, its the best way to go if you know your stuff. Other programs have a good tendancy to currupt and do other really nasty things to you. I know this first hand (I had to do my exam in dreamweaver and HATED the thing), but my friend will argue up and down with me otherwise.

Try it and see if you can handle doing everything manually^^

I'm not sure if there's something in the OpenOffice family or not, worth a look.

In the HTML portion of my Final Exam I had to write it out on paper.

Maqetta is pretty good, but it's not really user friendly if you're not up ons your scripting.

lol  True.  But I'm lazy.  :P  I do know basic html, but for what I'd want to do, I'd have to convince my husband to help.  (he's my nerd and I <3 that :D

Thanks for the input everyone!  Hopefully I'll have my site up in a few months.

While true that coding by hand is better, DW is pretty standard tool to use.  Using code view isn't much different than notepad.  I agree that DW's design view  is fairly crappy but it's code coloring and auto completion is very handy.

Edit Plus is another well known program.

That is what my professor had said too. Split view is rather worthless too especially if you are working with HTML5.

The Seamonkey browser comes with a rudimentary site building software called "Composer". It's a bit limited in that it can only generate static pages, but if what you're looking for is a free no-frills what-you-see-is-what-you-get site builder software, this is the only free one I know at the top of my head, unless you're looking to delve deeper into raw HTML.
