I Would Like get in Contact with Hasbro
« on: May 21, 2012, 03:40:08 PM »
I'm trying to get in contact with Hasbro studios about becoming a writer.  I've been writing mock scripts for the fun of it, and people have comment on not just the quality of the characters and plots, but the professionalism of the scripts.  They've suggested I might do well becoming a professional.  Well, figuring I got nothing to lose and trying to find my place in the world, I thought I would give it a try.  However, I need to make contacts with Hasbro which means networking.

Anyone with the ear of anyone at the big H?  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

No advice but you might have to join a writers union first before they'll talk to you. *grumbles* I'm not a fan of unions. You may want to look into something like that as a starting point. Guess I did have some kind of advice. Anyways best of luck! We could use some fresh, well developed ideas and who better to write for MLP than a fan.

Thanks for the advice.  I have to admit I've been juggling whether or not to go to BronyCon because I might make connections there.

You might find something here: http://www.hasbro.com/corporate/
It's the Hasbro Corporate site (easy to find from the main Hasbro site).

I can tell you first hand as a freelance writer that it's very difficult sometimes to get your foot in the door, especially in a media such as television writing.  Don't get discouraged it it's really what you want.

Maybe getting in touch with the animation studio might be better than Hasbro?  They just have creative control; the production studio actually makes it.  I don't know how it works for cartoons over live action TV.

Good luck!

I used to live with a guy who got a job writing for the BBC by submitting script after script after script.  They'd give him feedback, he'd take it and send them something new.  It took a long time, but worked in the end.

I thought of contacting Hasbro directly.  However, I had e-mailed them asking very respectfully about the G1 license.  I've yet to hear back.  I fear if I offer my services by their e-mail accounts, it'll be lost in the electronic heap.

I would like to write pony.  So, I guess I should say I want to get in contact with Hasbro studios.

Maybe snail mail would be a good option.  Someone would be more likely to actually see it.  Now to think of of how I want to word it.

Chances are that Hasbro's studio gets letters like this all the time, given the popularity of MLP:FIM and the active fan-writing culture around it.

Lauren Faust shares some good industry insight on her DeviantArt. I bet a lot of what she has to say here would be helpful to a writer, too. Check it out if you haven't! http://fyre-flye.deviantart.com/journal/FAQ-276161988

As others have said, don't get discouraged, and don't be afraid to start small and climb up to where you want to be if the situation calls for it.

From what I've read, I should send a spec script with my letter just to show I understand the screenplay format (or have a program that does it for me) as well as an ability to write characters, plot, situations, and humor.

This was brought on by some suggestions by people I go for the gusto after reading my current project MLP Legends.  It's a G1 retelling, so one of the scripts might make a good spec script since you're not supposed to send in a script of a similar series, but not the exact same series as you want to get into.  Think I might even know the perfect one.
