No more numbers on US blind bags?
« on: March 27, 2012, 04:24:16 PM »
So I had some time to kill after work today, so I went over to Walmart.  I always check for ponies, and saw that a full box of blind bags had been put out.  I grabbed one to look for the number to tell which pony it was and....no number.  Grabbed another bag, same thing.  Did Hasbro catch on?  Has anyone else encountered this?

Are you sure there was no number and you weren't just looking in the wrong place?

That's odd! Maybe they have caught on?

Nope, I was looking in the right place, lifted the flap and everything.

I have a friend who's NEVER had the easily marked numbers but she figured out another code. She said somewhere on the back there's a 5 digit code stamped and the 2nd and 4th numbers tell you which pony you get. So like 12345 would be 24 so it'd be sparkle rainbow dash. (I just pulled that out of thin air, that's not a real code lol)

Do yours have that style of coding perhaps?
If you haven't received feedback from me, give me a nudge!

I just bought six blind bags today, and I was unable to find any numbers... Not that I know which number is which, but I was hoping to get a duplicate so I could customize one...

...Until I realized exactly how small they really were, and then I decided I would never attempt to customize one. XD At that point, I was really happy I got no duplicates. (Unless you count getting 2 Rainbow Dashes, but one of them was the glittery one. :P)

Yes, it was that way, printed on the bottom instead.  That's very clever of your friend!

I finally found the blind bags ponys from the first wave at Walmart and fell in love with them.
In the US do we just have the first wave out or do different stores have different waves?
I also wish to figure out the code systme so I don't get duplicates.

The States only has the first wave blind bags out.

I'm surprised it even took this long to take away the easy numbering system. I mean, think about the other blind bag items out there, and almost none have easily identifiable bags. The first few series of the Lego Minifig blind bags had different barcodes for each figure, so people could figure them out that way. Then they changed from that to a bump pattern, which got harder to decipher each time, and now on the latest wave, there are no markings I can find at all.

Really, I wish they'd keep a consistent numbering system. That way people who only want certain ones can just grab those and leave the others for those who want them. And on the flip side, those who want to be surprised can just not look at the numbers.

I haven't seen blind bags in my area of town at all.  Very annoying.
