Pony Corral / Re: New MLP collector site. Would you use?
« on: October 01, 2018, 09:47:12 PM »
An efficient cataloguing site would definitely be welcome! At the core I'd be looking for:

- Prominent quick reference by generation, color, or name (i.e., StrawberryReef.com, My Little Wiki, etc.)
- Ability to toggle different views for my collection (i.e., name list, thumbnails, names with thumbnails, detailed view, etc.)
- Comparing wants to trades between users
- Crowd-sourcing the database
- Import/export feature

In its current form, I don't think I'd use https://mylittleponycollection.com/ because:

- The navigation feels hidden at the bottom of the page
- Not enough information is shown on each search result page when searching by category leading to too many pages to click through
- Too many subcategory variations (i.e., cornflower blue, light blue, and dark blue instead of just having a blue category)

The less clicks needed to find a pony, the better—about 3-4 clicks is ideal.

Thank you for posting! I'm super-interested to see this project evolve.

Pony Corral / Re: FiM S8 Ep23: Sounds of Silence
« on: September 30, 2018, 04:21:22 PM »
This is one of the few episodes I was excited to watch! I love the Kirins, although I am a bit sad that most of them are the standard pony model with extra bits and bobs thrown on. I suppose with the introduction of the student six I was expecting a new model, although I can understand how frustrating it must be to design one.
I'm not familiar with the voice actress although she did a great job. I love bubbly characters like this.
I also just love Applejack and Fluttershy episodes, like the one in Las Pegasus was a fun one.
I'm hoping for more episodes like this in season 9!
The Kirin design definitely owed a lot to the core pony design, although
Spoiler
turning into fiery pony spirits was an interesting twist!
I dug the scales and glowing, curved horns though.

And Rachel Bloom definitely does bubbly very well. She's best known for her role in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Here's the Season 1 opener for reference, which is basically what the entire show is about explained in 32 seconds. https://youtu.be/qzY3EaJTuJk The premise may sound off-putting at times, but it really gets to delve into relatable male and female double-standards through some incredibly well-produced musical numbers.

More of these episodes please! FiM is at its best when it's slightly self-aware and dance along the edge of breaking the fourth wall. Oh and catchy songs too!

What are some of your FiM song favs?

What does everyone think about this Rachel Bloom episode? As a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fan, I'm admittedly biased but there are little moments strewn throughout this ep that reinforce why I'm not only an MLP fan, but also a fan of great writing and comedic timing. Here's a few fav moments:

Spoiler
+ Lessons in listening; Apple Jack is so bent on the quest, she forgets to pay close attention to her bestie, Fluttershy, who is such a good listener she loses sight of the bigger picture

+ Renouncing the chance for love and happiness because anger and heartbreak hurts; the Kirin turn into angry monsters at the first moment of disagreement so they take a vow of silence, but they realize it's not what triggers the anger, it's how they channel that anger that's truly important

+ Autumn Blaze's incredible song! First, the cringe-inducing-breaking-out-into-song trope that reminds me so much of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Autumn Blaze has been alone in the woods for so long that she's made Wilson-type friends a la Castaway and has even NAMED her shadow. Just a perfectly kooky character for Rachel Bloom to play

+ Cheap laughs still worthwhile; the station master pony laughing maniacally! Autumn Blaze's hoof puppet. Autumn Blaze naming her shadow

Not ashamed to say I watched it again today and laughed again!

Hi Tilly! G1s are my ultimate favs too, and the unicorns have such fun personalities in the original movies and series.  Great time of the year to join the forum too—happy early Halloween month! Are you planning a few costumes for the season?

Welcome to the forum.

Pony Brag Arena / Re: G1 Sparkle Pony Fam (So Far)

I love the sparkle ponies, and they look awesome against the sun.  Sunspot's probably my favorite.  But only if the hair has faded.  I hate pink hair on an orange pony.

So very true about Sunspot! There's something clashy about an orange pony with pink hair. I've also notice in different Sunspots that the mane and tail fade at different rates. I may just try and even out the fading color with sunfading.

All the shiny sparkly goodness.

Haha absolutely! Daily sparkles appear in my makeup routine in the form of the My Little Pony x Colourpop Posey shock shadow on my brow bone and cheek bone. Sparklicious. :frolic:

Let's see if us European G2 buyers get as much exposure as Bronies then. We kept Hasbro's toyline alive when the US wasn't buying any.
Bronies already have a ton of documentaries about them. Made by themselves, so it's more like watching a propaganda vid
G2 and the shadow years of MLP are the least talked about aspects of the brand.

Yes! They have to mention all the cool nirvanas out there and all the gens! Wouldn't be a complete history without G2s.

Off Topic / Re: Do you drink the water where you live?
« on: September 26, 2018, 07:55:11 PM »
Oh, my goodness.

Yes, the tap water in my area is theoretically safe to drink ... certainly no toxic algae issues! I began avoiding fluoride about a year ago once my bf told me of its dangers ... now I  only drink fluoride-free water whenever possible ... which means no tap water for me.

Ooh I've been wanting to get a good fluoride-removing filter! Cutting down whenever possible is definitely good. Salt Lake County apparently started adding fluoride to their water in 2003 after a local vote.  -_- Any fluoride-removing filter recommendations?

Aie my heart is breaking for Florida! I grew up there and only drank tap water, but when a hurricane hit (e.g., Hurricane Charley) or a really bad algae bloom situation, boiling water/bottled water was essential to not get sick. That's for people but also for pets! Fish tanks, dogs, cats—you name it.

My family still lives there right now and they like the taste of filtered bottled water, which makes me feel guilty when I visit my mom, but to each their own. At least recycling is a big, big thing these days!

Flint, Michigan and other places are another can of worms entirely. Drinkable tap water is a basic need and unfortunately not everyone in the US or world is so lucky.

Off Topic / Re: Tea?
« on: September 24, 2018, 08:18:09 PM »
I always have a few flavours in the cupboard since I like to have the option to switch :) So at this moment I have jasmin-orangeblossom, green tea apple-kiwi, Russian Earl Grey, Sencha, green tea mint and this loose fruit tea which needs a filter to be drinked.
When its winter season I also buy this winter tea :)

Your making me drool.

This sounds incredible! I'll be on the search for jasmine-orange blossom and green tea apple kiwi.

I'm a coffee and tea girl! Love a nice, freshly ground dark roast in the morning with a teaspoon of honey. My top heavenly and easily obtainable coffees are Stumptown Hair Bender, Blue Bottle Ethiopian, or Whiskey Barrel Coffee Moonshine. The whiskey barrel coffee doesn't even need sugar, honey, or anything—it's smooth with some mellow caramel notes all on its own.

Anyone have a preferred prep regiment? I get whole beans whenever possible for a fresh grind to use with a French press at home, but sometimes I have patience for a pour-over. Although, when I see a coffee place that has a nice Hario vacuum siphon brewer I get tunnel vision and my heart beats 5x faster—true love! lol

For tea, I've been recently digging the Get Clean stackable teas; a different blend for the morning, afternoon, and night. My evening usuals are chamomile for relaxation or a nice lemon ginger for digestion. I'm also a big fan of matcha, both green and roasted.

Ehhhh I like John deLancie, especially from his time on Star Trek.  :)  I am sure the show is doing its best to come up with a well-rounded episode.  I am sure the Star Wars fans had lots of negative things to say about their episode.  "They mentioned the Holiday Special! AUGH"

Agreed! Q is arguably one of the best characters in the Star Trek universe thanks to John de Lancie.

They have to touch on all generations! I'm only a G1 collector, used to watch the G1 series as a kid, and am an occasional FiM watcher, but every corner of the fandom should get its due, even Bronies. The Toys That Made Us is pretty good about letting people have their joy, but focusing more on the making-of industry stories.

Can't wait to see the My Little Pony episode! But also the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers episodes will be fun to see too. All the old school goodies are getting some love.
