Repinked my Dutch Love Pony with watercolors!
« on: September 16, 2016, 04:25:40 PM »
Well I'm a watercolor artist so I used watercolors instead of dye or something else! I have no idea how it'll last, but so far it hasn't stained and I love the shade! What do you think?

Have you ever tried an unconventional approach to restoring your own ponies?

How lovely! I've read about this method and it seems to have worked really well. You got that nice warm shade of pink too, not just diluted red- it's gorgeous :D

Very nicely done, such a lovely shade of pink. I've never heard of using water colours, maybe I'll try it some day instead of dye ^.^

This is a really cool idea and she looks great! I'd like to do this too so I've been trying to figure out if there could be any other potential problems besides lightfastness and I came up with a couple. Do you remember what color you used? I seem to remember that cadmium colors have the best lightfastness, but then you run into the problem of having to handle something that contains cadmium. This shouldn't be a problem unless you're selling the pony, washing the pony, or you were giving it to a child. The cheaper colors are known to fade quickly on paper, so I'm curious about their longevity on doll hair.

The other problem could be hair styling. I wonder how the paint would react to the heat of a curling iron? Especially the cadmium pigments. Although I can't imagine any pigment being particularly good for you if it was heated up and you breathed in the vapors.

Oh she looks so great!!  Having pink hair makes such a difference   (And she's a grail of mine so I love it even more!)

I guess you'd have to be careful not to wash her? if the paint is water-soluble?  I don't know much about paint types... does watercolour paint come in a tube, or is it like the little compacts of dried powder that everyone had as kids?

The colour is so spot-on, too, you'd never know the difference :D

She looks beautiful! I dyed a ponies hair with acrylic paint once. I'm an indie yarn dyer so I dye pony hair with my acid dyes. :)

Acid dyes, huh? Sounds neat. Do you have a collection of your work anywhere?
