I would try mineral oil before acetone and sun fading - leave it on liberally for a bit and then rub it with cotton wool, see if it dissolves the stain.

Yeah I would try the above while it's still fresh

I'll see if I can find some and do acetone if there's still no effect. Thanks everyone :)

sunfading isn't just for white ponies... and i think they should be safe, i've never heard otherwise (i could be wrong). if you do decide to sunfade them, be sure to cover the unaffected spots thoroughly and keep an eye on them, though.

I might as well give it a try then, thank you. :)

Pony Corral / Help! Alternate cleaning methods?

I moved recently, and one of my suitcases was for misc stuff- mostly cables for my computer. Without thinking about it, I tossed my two favorite girls on top and now both have mysterious black stains.

I've already tried soap and water, a regular school eraser, 70% alcohol, and magic eraser. Is there anything else I could try? Not sure if sunfading would work as neither are white.

I suppose this is a PSA to always ziplock your ladies before traveling!

Pony Corral / Re: How to dust a MOC G1 without causing damage?

Could try compressed air if you're very concerned about touching it? It's very gentle at a distance, hence why people use it to clean delicate computer parts. :)

Get it done with your parent's assistance before you turn 18 or it's way more difficult! :(

I just turned 25 so that window is a little far gone  :lookround:

We had a family member pay an immigration lawyer up front and we paid the family member back over a course of years, as it was definitely a $12-17,000+ process after everything was said and done.   I would not advise doing the application without a lawyer.

Congratulations on making the move! This is really helpful to read, thank you. And WOW, 12-17k!? The lawyer I'd asked quoted about 3k to help me if I can get a valid job offer on my own (which I can hopefully do). I'm planning on visiting as often as possible in 5-6 month segments and seeking job offers in the meantime while I stay with my bf.

I'm currently a work from home contract artist with a US game company... I wonder if I can do that work while across the border without any issues?

I've checked out a Canadian immi site, and it looks like they have similar options for people coming from the US; basically, it means that you and your partner are in a monogamous relationship and share an address. It's not quite the same level as marriage, but is similar to common-law marriage in the US? Your partner can sponsor you so that you can move to Canada to continue your relationship.

Very interesting, thanks! Good luck becoming a dual citizen, that sounds awesome :)

Might be a weird place to ask, but it seems like we have a lot of diversity here and I'd give it a shot :)

Is anyone here a dual citizen of the USA/Canada, or someone who lived in the US at one point and became a naturalized Canadian?

I recently visited Vancouver to be with my boyfriend and discovered that I absolutely LOVE it there- the climate, the mountains, the culture, everything- and I'm wanting to move there. Through all the research I've done I've determined that it's a lot more complex than it seems to move if you're just an average joe and not a health care professional or other in demand worker- I'm just an artist, and while there is a huge industry for video games and animation there it won't be easy to get a job offer.

I suppose my question is, if anyone has successfully moved- how did you go about it? Did it take a lot of back and forth from home to your destination, and did you choose to have a Canadian lawyer present your immigration case or do it all yourself?

Any insight or stories would be very helpful!

She looks beautiful! I dyed a ponies hair with acrylic paint once. I'm an indie yarn dyer so I dye pony hair with my acid dyes. :)

Acid dyes, huh? Sounds neat. Do you have a collection of your work anywhere?

How lovely! I've read about this method and it seems to have worked really well. You got that nice warm shade of pink too, not just diluted red- it's gorgeous :D

Oh my gosh! Flea market ponies are truly the most exciting. There's something about cleaning them that builds a special connection.

That said, please post photos when they've been restored if you can, I'd love to see!

Pony Brag Arena / Ceramic Ponies thrift store find!
« on: December 11, 2015, 10:26:48 AM »
Always follow your gut feeling when it tells you you should drop by the thrift store- I generally just browse for chicken and carousel horse related stuff, and found this precious ceramic instead! It was filthy, as if it had been sitting in someone's garage- but hey, cleaning is half the fun, isn't it?
