Pony Corral / Re: We're getting old...
« on: June 29, 2022, 05:00:03 AM »
Photos of Collections! YES! Although I have a youngin so all the ponies are in boxes or else the tot will claim them. She already claimed all my custom paint test fakies, including the headless and disembodied heads that don't match the former. Maybe I will photograph her collection because I find it so hilarious.

Your ponies have 1800 sf? They have a 3-bedroom house all to themselves?

That is bigger than my house by multiple hundreds!

My fiance and I just put an offer in on a 4 bedroom house that is a little over 1800 sf... maybe she meant 180 sf?

I have a very large collection and used to display it on 3 book cases. I did this for a few years then discovered I really hated displaying ponies on three+ bookcases.

I see ponies as art and the only way I can enjoy them is if there is enough space to appreciate them individually. I can't appreciate their lovely hair, admire the perfect paint when all the ponies are shoved side by side on a shelf.  So now I have one book shelf - which I want to replace with a glass door display cabinet, like Vintergatan has. I keep my ponies and Breyers on this single book case, on only 3 shelves, and I switch them out when ever I get board seeing them. One month I had so-softs, the next TAFs, and then Rainbows, and TE's, then so on. The rest I keep in storage.

I find guests also appreciate the collection when I have them displayed this way, they take an interest in them and comment on how lovely they are, and generally seam to see what I see, beautiful works of art. When they were all displayed stuffed on book cases visitors would see mobs of plastic toys and take no interest in them at all, and that hurts. I do enjoy my collection, but I enjoy it more when I pull them out of storage to display a different set, it feels like opening a lost treasure even though I knew I had them all along.

wow! your husband was right! I think it added a lot, and it is a lovely looking house. Nothing wrong with a small house, less taxes, less expensive to heat, less expensive to fix, and less room for clutter that you don't need ;)

lol! when I read the title - I though 'that is a really clever way to say you are 60...' Then I saw who posted it and I was like... 'but I didn't think Jupiter was that old...'

Anyway Happy birthday!

Thanks everyone, I wasn't sure what people would think. The orange color does not look as nice as it does in person, I tried so many photo shoots and in the end I gave up, no mater how expensive or dumb the camera is I can't capture the colors she has in real life, photos always turn out electric.

Customs / Orange Parasol for Rowdy_cowgirl (breyer sm)

hello! I haven't been here in a while but what brought me back was a custom I made for Rowdy_Cowgirl, which has yet to be delivered. Time, distance, life etc. has gotten in the way but I am going to send her a PM to see if I can get this girl sent off to her. I see she hasn't been active here in a while so if anyone knows how I can reach her I would appreciate the help.

I made this as an extra goodie for a 'just because' noob G1 pony swap in the corral two summers ago (so 2010) and it wasn't finished by the time the shipping deadline came around so I took a picture of the finished face and sent off the swap box. Poor RC probably doesn't think she'll ever see it. I moved twice since then and now I am settled (for a bit :P) and I came accross this girl while unpacking my custom stuff.

So here she is, a Breyer Stable Mate MLP mashup custom:

I have an Iwata - it is a top load with a 2cc cup and I use plain old rubbing alcohol for cleaning water based paints, works like a charm!

I do a full cleaning after each use, dump some alchohol (90%) in the reservoir and spray it trough, you can do 50/50 water alcohol too, works just as well. DO NOT BREATH THE VAPOR, and use a well ventilated area! It stinks and will BURN if you breath it in, especially when you mix it with water it seams more potent.

I take apart the tip and put that in a little dish of alcohol, then I take the needle out the back and clean it off very gently, be very careful with the iwata needles, they are very delicate and can bend easy, you never want to use the tip to clean the gun, an old pro told me dropping them can cause damage.

You will want tooth picks and cotton swabs to aid in your cleaning. I put a bit of alcohol on a cotton swab and run it around inside the reservoir. Then I use a tooth pick to get the stubborn bits. After that I reasemble the needle and tip, run more alcohol through the gun, and if the reservoir is clear and clean, I do one last run and call it good.

Cleaning it takes a good 10 minutes but it really is worth it to not have to clean the gun before each use.

If you have lots of paint build up, you can take the gun apart and leave it in a bowl or tupperware container over night soaking in alcohol, it wont hurt a thing. Then clean the empty gun body under running water the next day, inspect all parts for paint and rub the paint off any parts with a tooth pick or cotton swab, then reassemble and you should be good to go.
