3% H2O2?
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:56:23 AM »
Sun fading doesn't seem to be really working, and it's been slightly over cast for a few days now.
Would soaking in Hydrogen Peroxide help boost sun fading? Am I using the wrong type of peroxide?
The wikis and tutorials really don't touch on ponies themselves but play sets.

It's a G1 Wind Drifter I am trying to fade. She has orange high lighter ( because it looks like marker ) on her cheeks and neck.

In my experience, sunfading can take months, depending on the severity of the stain.  I haven't tried peroxide yet, but putting them on my car's dashboard always seems to do the trick  over time :)

I'm so tempted to take the pony to a tanning bed! The lack of sun here in Georgia for the past week ( plus the golf ball sized hail we had a two weeks ago ) is making it impossible to fade anything.  >_< I've got to give it more time.

Tanning bed will not work. At least it didn't work for me when I tried. It will make your pony sticky.

LOL! Guess that saves me the trouble of hunting down a tanning bed.  >_<

There is a lot of iffiness if the peroxide actually works or if you can just use water and get the same results.
I've done peroxide sunfading on a pony once and still have the pony that it was used on, here is the topic with the end results: http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,294141.msg165000.html#msg165000

I will warn though that after doing the process the pony can get sunburned easily... How the pony is now, she still has the blotches of cancer but they are more tolerable than they were
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

How long have you had it sunfading? I've had things fade in a few days, but I generally just leave it in a window with direct sun for a few weeks, especially for highlighter and marker. Also, even if it's overcast, it may still work. I suspect it's more helpful to to track the UV index, not the cloud cover, although I'm not sure.

Very nice clean up on the baby SD. If the process leaves the pony to sunburn easily it's fine by me since all my ponies are along a dark wall of my home. They never get touched by daylight.

Elisto, I never thought about tracking the UV but was mostly worried about the actual sun rays hitting the pony. Hmm, never thought about it like this but now I'm going to see what kind of UV daily rating I could track and see if it helps. Makes sense, since I once got a touch of sun burn at the lake on an over cast afternoon.

She has been in the patio, for direct sunlight for about a month and a half. No real noticeable change since then and I got impatient. I put her in a tub and filled it with the 3% H2O2 and I am not sure if it's just wishful thinking or what, but I think the highlighter has lightened a bit. This after two days of being completely submersed in straight H2O2. Maybe it's the liquid itself, since water seems to change the color in toys because of light reflection and such.

I was thinking about using acne cream as well to see if there aren't better results in fading out the orange highlighter.

Wind Drifter photos, belong to UniqueTreasures000 via eBay

These are the auction photos from when I bought her off eBay. Photos belong to seller. I think someone drew on her with a orange marker. Acetone and a Magic Eraser didn't do anything to remove the marker so sunfading was the next step.

I've successfully sun faded a G1 Blue baby ( took five months in my car windshield ) who had pink marker on his lip and leg. If I wanted to fade him some more, I believe the marker would completely fade away.

I have another blue-ish baby G1 that has a brown spot between his back legs and when I opened him up, the brown spot shown through the plastic. I'm sure it's an age spot, since nothing will remove the brown spot and it's through and through the pony. He's a light/pale blue, so it seems like it had been left out in the elements before.

What a lovely girl!  When that mark fades off her she will be fabulous!  That's a pretty significant stain....I'm gonna bet it will take quite a while.  Maybe put her somewhere (car dash/window sill) and *try* to forget about her for a while? LOL.  When I moved, I found a perfectly sunfaded pony I had left there and totally forgotten about! She looked great and it was like a mini Christmas present :P

Colorscapesart  She is lovely, and probably my favorite yellow G1 with Dancing Butterflies being close second.  Her wing stubs have been completely removed but her symbols and eyes are lovely! I have her sitting in the sun outside on my patio right now taking full advantage of the sun.

I doubt it's regrind, since that tends to be pink and mostly seen in pink and blue/purple ponies. It looks like marker to me but it could be a stain that is years old and sun fading seems to be the only option right now.

Since my Dollyhair came in ( wooot! ) I was thinking of rehairing her in a different shades of green and yellow. I plan on having an army of Wind drifters!
