Aww HoM did a great job! How cute!

Here is my card from Griffin! It features my two OCs, and I couldn’t love it more! :) To answer you, you’ve not yet made a card like this for me haha! I always love the way you draw my OCs, you capture them so perfectly!

She turned out so amazing!! I remember the dolphin craze and though I didn’t get super into it, dolphins do still make me nostalgic! You nailed the colors and everything just perfectly! The glow in the dark symbol is the perfect touch that just makes her that much more 90s!

OMG both Kimono’s Townhouse and Death by Pink were both such big influences on my collecting! I’m not nearly ask skilled as the creators of those two comics, but I definitely have a small hoard of miniatures and play sets for pony photography because of those comics! :) Every now and then I’ll run across Kimono’s Townhouse being posted on Tumblr and seeing the pages makes me so happy!

Law my memory is a little foggy, but I think Death by Pink was about an evil Pinkie Pie hahaha! I remember it was done with Ponyville ponies and that the ponies expressions would be edited digitally so they could be more expressive…..I remember some of them being pretty funny!

I grew up with G3 and I don’t remember how exactly I stumbled onto G1 ponies, but I actually didn’t like them at first! I really don’t know WHY since they aren’t all that different from G3 in hindsight, but I guess they were just different enough that it seemed wrong to me. Then I stumbled onto the G1 baby ponies and Aikarin’s custom ponies and got converted pretty quick. :P I also remember finding the G1 cartoons at Toys r Us on DVD and loving the cartoons! Even though the animation was a lil janky, I remember being excited by the more intense story lines compared to G3.

On my gosh lovesbabysquirmy, what an awful day! I am so sorry you are having to deal with so much emotionally right now. Losing a pet is always difficult, and to have a loved one going through surgery is always nerve wracking. May Bearie rest in peace and I am sending good thoughts your way for the surgery! I’m sure everything will go well!

I had a frustrating day all around. My water heater finally died this weekend and caused a huge leak. The unit is out in my storage shed, so thankfully most of the water damage is outside and should just dry out. All of the stuff in my shed sits on shelves, so thankfully nothing was ruined either. There was some water in my closet that shares a wall with the shed, but the walls didn’t feel soggy and minus one piece on the vinyl starting to lift the floor looks okay too. It could have been much, much worse.

Anyway, I didn’t even try and call around yesterday because I figured the rates would be higher with the Super Bowl. I started calling around for quotes today and man, I know these places are probably busy but the sporadic communication has been a nightmare. The first company I contacted was super quick to offer to come out and do the work, but when I asked for a quote first they basically went radio silent. They said a supervisor would call me back, but after 3 hours nothing. I called again in case they forgot me and was told the supervisor works in the field too and he was on a call, they couldn’t tell me when he would call back. I finally just cancelled the whole thing after about 7 hours of nothing. While waiting for them I started calling other companies and they didn’t even answer the phone.

Later in the day I started getting calls back on my voicemails. One company gave me a decent quote and called back pretty quick, so I booked them off the bat out of panic since I wasn’t having much luck elsewhere. They said they would come tomorrow morning, but never gave me a set time. Not long after that, another independent contractor, who was supposed to be on vacation actually was the only other one to call back and said although he couldn’t do the work, he could recommend other plumbers in his price range, which was about $500 cheaper than the people I booked with. The second guy seemed promising and said he probably couldn’t get me in tomorrow, but would try for Wednesday. He said he’d text me back to confirm, but I never got anything back from him. I ended up canceling the more expensive company because I’d rather wait for the savings, but now I’m having second thoughts… I’ve spent all of my day off on the phone. I WORK in a call center, this isn’t how I wanted to spend my day off! >_<

In the middle of all of this chaos I was attempting to swap out my earrings and my flipping ear started bleeding! It’s been like 4 months since I got them pierced so I was concerned to see blood at this point. I ran over to the place where I got them pierced and told them what happened, but thankfully the guy took a look at my ears and said they looked healthy and that I probably just irritated it. I did have to really tug at the backs of my other earrings to get them out, so I suppose that’s possible. I’m just bummed out that my ears still aren’t all the way healed and I can’t change out my earrings easily. The guy told me some people’s ears can take up to a year to really heal. I’m starting to think I may be one of those lucky people. :(

Thank you all! I finished off another batch, but I tried a new polish which did not work at all. :( I’ve got another batch starting right now and I figure I may just try and throw the last batch through the polish stage again with my normal polish. I found out my friend really likes rock hunting too so this latest batch is from a spot she recommended. I got a lot of quartz looking stones, so I hope they turn out okay!

You have a wonderful collection! I'm sorry to hear about your rock tumbler. I have a small collection somewhere, but I have no clue where the majority of them are. All I have around is a rough amethyst, which, unfortunately, has a unicorn sitting on top of it. I could possibly remove it, but I'm worried that I may do damage to the quartz in the process.

I personally favour rough ores and minerals over smooth ones; I am primarily interested in a more natural state, seeing precisely how they would appear in nature (or as close as possible). I certainly do like smooth gemstones, though—they are absolutely beautiful and far more pleasant to hold. It's just that I like ores and minerals more because they're fascinating little pieces of nature that just happen to often be very pretty, sort of similar to how one may see fossils, I suppose.

I totally get where you are coming from! The raw stones can be just as beautiful as the tumbled rocks, and if I’m being honest I’ve definitely had a few that I wish I would have kept as is. Sometimes the rocks can lose their character through the tumbling process.

Nairamu, yes that is exactly it! I always have my eyes glued to the ground and living in the desert, it’s not hard to stumble upon rock rich areas!

Pony Corral / Re: Nearly Non Existent Pony Section
« on: January 13, 2024, 10:49:31 PM »
The pony sections around here have been so sad at every big box store I’ve been to! A lot of times I just don’t even look anymore, the same 5 or so items never seem to change.

Macys does have a TrU section here. They do admittedly have more ponies than say Target or Walmart, but it just seems like there are so few G5 releases to begin with that even when a lot of them are there it doesn’t feel like much.

I get the feeling Hasbro kind of just w to G5 to fizzle out at this point so they can try another reboot. It’s a shame because I think G5 is really cute, but they haven’t been given much of a fair chance. The toys released have been really mixed in terms of quality and the lack of unique characters certainly hasn’t helped.

Off Topic / Re: Do you buy physical media (CDs, Records, DVDs, etc.)
« on: January 13, 2024, 10:11:34 PM »
I’m starting to miss physical media more and more myself. I don’t often buy a lot of media just because for books, movies, and TV shows I am someone who seldom rewatches or rereads things, even if I really enjoyed them. Streaming is becoming more and more of a nightmare though and it makes me miss video rental stores :( I loved the smell of them and being able to browse through all the different titles!

Music on the other hand, I very much buy in the physical format because I will revisit my favorite albums over and over again! I’ve had a turntable for vinyl records ever since I graduated high school, but once I got my own place I knew I wanted one of the console turntables! I was never around the same time of them, but I love how special having a dedicated piece of furniture for your music makes it feel more cozy and special. I got my console off Marketplace for 30 bucks. The speed setting are wonky and at the time it sounded distorted, but a bit of cleaning and a new needle has it running good as new! I think I may need to replace the cartridge in the needle at some point, but it still sounds good enough for now.

The other thing I love about physical albums is being able to see the artwork on a larger scale and reading the liner notes. I feel like you can miss a lot of what the artist is trying to communicate in their music without the context of some of the notes they include. Even if nothing is written, often there is more artwork or photos on the inside that you wouldn’t otherwise see if you didn’t own the album. Streaming music is still my go to for travel and discovering new music, but when I am at home I strongly prefer listening on my console over anything else!

I love that so many of you share my fascination for rocks! Long time no post in this thread haha, but I ended up having a small disaster with my rock tumbler that threw me off track. I came back one night after a concert and thought my tumbler sounded off, but my ears were numb and a lot of thing sounded off so I ignored it and went to bed. When I woke up it still sounded off so I opened up the closet where I keep it and it had leaked. ALL OVER. There was sludge and grit just everywhere. Unfortunately that leak absolutely destroyed my rock tumbler and it stopped working.

Well I finally got another tumbler and got back on track! I got one with a slightly larger capacity, but I couldn’t quite afford a double barrel one like I really wanted. Here are a few of my select favorites from the batch I was working on last time.

These 4 here might be my favorites so far - especially the funky brown one! I have no idea what it is, but I was shocked it took the polish so well! The texture of the original rock made me think it might not get too shiny.

This is another batch I just finished. These are actually all just landscape rocks from my grandma’s backyard. When I was a kid I had collected a bunch of rocks from her yard I thought were cool and put them in a bucket. She never dumped them back out after all these years, so I thought it was appropriate to tumble them! Most of them are pretty small since they were small to start with, but there are a few nice ones in there.

Honeycomb, to answer your question the rock tumbler basically smooths out all the rough edges of rocks and makes them smooth and shiny! There are a couple different types that work in different ways, but mine is the more common rotary tumbler that basically just spins them around in a barrel! You add in some grit and water to each stage to smooth them out more nd more. The fun part is definitely Italy the first stage. When you first start to knock off those rough edges that’s when a lot of the neat little patterns and lines on the rocks start to show up!

it sounds like you’ve had a rough past couple days Ponyfan. Sorry to hear about your pup. Her condition sounds a bit like my senior dog’s condition towards the end. He got stuck in places as well and had trouble with his bladder. All you can do is make sure they are happy and comfortable for as long as you can.

Sometimes my dad drives me absolutely insane with the TV. He loves those true crime murder shows and I really don’t. Tonight he put one on after we ate so I went upstairs to try and get away from it. He then came upstairs and turned it on and had two TVs blasting. I went downstairs and turned the one he wasn’t watching down. I went out for a walk and when I came off it was off, so I thought he was going to bed, but nope, he turned it back on. I don’t think I’ve ever told him how much I dislike those shows as it’s his house and I know this is how he likes to unwind after work and I could just leave, but come on man, am I not being obvious in trying to get away from this? I feel like it would look rude to just leave but if I can’t get some quiet I might have to.  The real kicker was while he had it paused my mom said she was going to call her mom to talk and right as she started dialing he turned on back on full blast! Like hello?? Why would you do that when you know your wife is about to call someone on the phone? He has done that with my mom before, so it’s not like he didn’t hear her.

I love G5! I personally prefer the low stakes style MLP over G4s grand adventures, so this is a little more up my alley. :) I really love the Make your Mark series and I’m sad that it is seemingly discontinued for now. I think the CG models of the ponies are really cute even if the lighting and animation can be a little wonky at times lol! My favorite character is probably Izzy. I love her crazy energy and unicycling crafts! I really love Sunny a lot as well, but I feel like ever since the movie her character hasn’t really gotten much exploration. Oh, and Misty!! Misty is honestly probably the shining star of G5, she is fantastic!

The Tell your Tale series is just okay to me. I really don’t love the animation style of it and it’s a little to short and quick paced for my liking, but I guess it must be doing well with kids for it to be the one that is continued! I stopped watching it a little while ago, so I’m not up to speed with it.

The toys are a little disappointing, but still better than G4 imo. The styling sized ponies are my favs of the toy line. Their molds are super cute and their hair is SO NICE! They just feel nice and high quality. I also really love the little articulated ponies, they are great for photographs! The little Polly pocket style ponies were a cute idea too. My main gripe with the toys is the repetition of characters. It makes me so sad that there is not more variety. The variety is what got me into MLP in the first place! The fact that Misty, a new main cast member only has, what, two releases? Is honestly crazy! The new sparkly ponies from the winter special would make such pretty toys! There is so much potential for the toy line to have more variety.

A lot of my list was put this year actually! I got the articulated Misty Brightdawn, the RAMC mini set, the basic fun Firefly plush, a Rainbow Dash dog toy (that one was a joke lol but it’s cute!), a G5 activity set, a kids party cup, a G5 calendar, and finally HQG1C trick or treat boy, baby Sunburst, Mint Nippon pony, and Baby frost? I think her name is! :) I have to reorganize my HQG1C shelf now LOL it’s getting pretty full!

I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit for the holidays. I’m up about 5 pounds, but I’m not too worried about it, I know I can lose it again in time! I’m still overall happy with where I’m at health wise and I hope to keep improving in the new year. :)

I did my first 5k earlier this month! I actually ran more of it than I expected to. Having other people to pace me helped me not overdo it in the beginning so I could run longer. There was a guy there in an inflatable Olaf costume that was right behind me the whole time. I told myself I wanted to at least beat Olaf and I did lol! I ended up placing 174 out of almost 500, so for a first attempt I’m quite happy with that! I had a lot of fun and I think I’d like to do more 5ks in the future. I just wish there were more night runs, I don’t do mornings!

Wonka: 6/10. It was a sweet feel good movie….which was also kind of my problem with it haha! I’m used to Willy Wonka stories having a bit of a dark undertone and this one was just a little TOO sweet and silly imo. I also had no idea it was a musical going into it, so I had a difficult time getting over that. The visuals were fun though and the connection between Wonka and Noodle was cute.

Leaving the World Behind: 8/10. I really liked this movie! Despite its long run time it held my attention the whole way through and I felt like it had an interesting and relevant theme to today’s world. I always like movies that highlight that in disasters you need to rely on other people, not turn against them.

Elf: It’s a yearly rewatch, but 10/10. Seriously it’s a perfectly crafted story imo, it’s a fun watch every single year!
