I like G2 a lot :) Recently started to collect them (after more than 10 years of trying to deny that I like them XD).

Hahaha THIS -except only 4years for me. I finally broke down and started collecting G2 just recently, and suddenly realized how many awesome ones there are!! Now to track them down...
I don't mind G2, but certainly here in the UK, they're much harder to come by. Since I can't buy online, I rely on charity and second-hand shops for past generation ponies, and the ones near me have only had G1 and G3 so far. I would certainly buy a G2 pony if I found one, but it's just that I haven't.I think we've moved past the point of them being plentiful at carboots as well. They were never as successful here as G3, or as in Europe (though better than the US). I have seen them at carboot sales here in the last year though. Early ones, too.
I bought nearly every G2 that was available here, sadly we didn't get nearly the variety that Europe did. I'm not sure why they didn't go over well - wrong place, wrong time? A lack of shelf-appeal? Price points? Some of the playsets in particular were overpriced for what you got. I'm looking at you 'Friendship Gardens', aka barely disguised reissue of LPS Zoo.I feel the reason flop in USA is due mold designs and they didn't appeal to kids... Alot USA kids grow up so fast want technology toys to want a teen... I recall books that I read in middle school toward high school that now gear younger audition...

That playset was the WORST. Hardly came with any accessories, DIDN'T COME WITH A PONY, and, yeah, lazily disguised LPS item.
I feel like they didn't play up the magic aspect enough at first? Which may be a strange thing to say about talking, multi-colored horses, but I dunno. They seemed much more separate from 'traditional fantasy', up until they started doing things like the G2 princess ponies. But sadly they were already dead in the US by that point.
I also think having a bunch of unicorns and pegasus ponies would have helped. Never understood why G2 and G3 were so sparing with them.

Myeah, the carry case was kinda bad :P It did come with a pony, but only as a Spanish exclusive >.<
I would have loved to have some proper pegasi in the G2 line, although I'm happy enough that they had dragons, even if there only were two :)
G2 ponies are super pretty, I wish I had at least one or two of them. But same, besides that there is little to no info about how to take care of them there is also barely nothing about this gen itself, I love Friendship Gardens a lot, and more than a few screenshots you can't find anything about the game, no wallpapers, no pictures, no nothing, and in-game I see a lot of wallpaper material and other cute stuff. I also can't find almost any good quality pictures of any pony. It's sad because G2 is truly pretty.
RoseNoire, I'd be happy to post your experiences/tutorial on cleaning and/or restoring G2s on my website MLP Land (http://mlpland.com/?l=2&p=prettyparlor)

Oh, my, thanks you ! I don't have very baity G2s except some eye gems missing and one with tail rust, But I can't wait to help you document your website. =)
Yeah, great then ! =D
I've also documented this G1 restoration. Maybe it could interest you for some parts. =) https://imgur.com/a/tmxv5
G2s are great. I really like how they have feathering on their feet. Also Princess Crystal is SO cool.
I liked them, I just didn't really connect with them because I was 20 when they came out. I do have a few I regret parting with now though. I had bought them in stores when they came out. I don't regret parting with any iteration of Moon Shadow though. Even brand new I couldn't find one where her movable parts matched the rest of her body and it drove me bonkers especially because I loved her color scheme and symbol so much. I'm currently working on a G1 custom of her.
I can't remember if I mentioned this before, so forgive me if this is a "repeat post". But I liked that the G2 male ponies were in the same molds as the females. Makes much more sense than G1 or G4's approach. (Although I know G1 also had some males in the same molds as females.) The toys (any gen) are pretty androgynous to begin with because . . . well, they're horses! We could have had canon boys for flutter ponies, wingers, etc if Hasbro hadn't been caught up on the idea that they all "had to be" girls.
G1 is the strangest to me. The G4 males are at least about the same size as the female ponies. With G1 the drafthorse molds are absurdly larger than the other molds. I find it really off-putting. Like, okay Hasbro, you don't need to make them 1.5x bigger than the other ponies to make me believe they're a boy. Why they gotta be so thick??
Yes, I totally agree about the G2 boys being as vibrant and interesting as the girls. Prince Firefly is particularly gorgeous!

And then there's newborn Sniffles in the UK (and possibly Noodles in the US)? Who are boys.
Clever Clover has lovely colours <3. I just wish they hadn't recycled him over and over.
They only re-released Clever Clover once? Not counting Prince Fauna.
I believe one of the Slide twins is a boy too (the pink one I think) :)

I was counting the Prince...
The lack of new characters really killed the line, from my admittedly narrow and consumer based view.Yup we never got the singles, let alone any unicorns or the like, it was just the first set, the Magic Motions, the McD's ponies and then poof! they were all gone from the US after 1998. My tiny town actually gave up on them after less than a month after Magic Motions were out, the only shop that had them was my drug store and they pulled them to make room for something else
I remember going to Toys R' Us repeatedly looking for new ponies, only to be greeted with the same rack after rack of Sundance and Ivy Magic Motions, for months and months and months. Also tons of the early playsets - the bed with Lightheart and the terribly designed Garden Case.
Never even saw the 98' singles (Cupcake, Sugar Belle, Secret Tale, Wingsong). No idea if they even made it to Canadian stores - I can't imagine that the retailers were all too keen on ordering the second offering when the first bombed so badly. We did get some of year 2 - the Sunny Garden Friends two packs (with recycled characters, bleh) and the Pretty Parlour were also shelf-warmers.
