Post by: skywlshes on December 04, 2017, 05:30:02 AM
Is it safe to use spray net to style pony manes? Does it even work ?

Are you trying to hold curls in on a pony? Most would suggest boil perming. The hair spray could damage the hair or vinyl, make the hair sticky in heat, or yellow over time.
Some people have said that they've used hair spray without any ill effects, but I would consider it a sort of last resort because of the risks.

I agree that it's best to avoid hairspray, because the boil perm method works so perfectly! I've had ponies with curls that haven't relaxed at all in 5+ years because I dipped the hair in very hot water while the curlers (drinking straws, usually!) were in.

Don't be afraid to mess up! Boiling is nowhere near permanent if you boil the hair again. Basically, you need to have the hair in curls. This could be straws with Bobby pins, actual hair curlers, markers, whatever you can use. Dunk her in boiling water for a few seconds, take her out, pat her gently with a towel, arrange th curls depending on how you want them to sit, and let her dry for at least a day. Don't take the curls out when wet, as the will go droopy and flat. If you mess up, just try again :) There really is no way to mess up unless you make the curls too big or small or something like that. The hair will be fine, so style to your heart's desire!

And I agree with no hairspray or any hair product left in the hair. It could yellow and make the hair sticky.

I have never personally used hairspray on my ponies, but I have read that it can do strange things to the hair over time. I wouldn't trust it myself. Rather be on the safe side and don't use chemicals on your ponies.

Yeah, I wouldn't use the hairspray. It's basically a glue that's not made to last longer than the next time you wash it out of your (own) hair, and it's not super good for human hair either XD (and I think we all know how hair feels when you've left spray in it for a few days. if you don't: it's not pleasant D: )
Boil perming or just regular straw curls are a much better option, like people said before :) The hairspray isn't going to hold curls for long anyway ^^
