I love most of these girls. Hardest to choose between Ribbon and Twist. I need time to think.
-
Twist is my favourite, although ribbon is second I think :) I love her colours so much!
-
I think I'll go with Twist. I really like Ribbon too, but Twist has a pretty nice uncommon hair color!
-
Ribbon. Loved her in Return of Tambelon
-
I was going to vote Ribbon but then realised that I was going to do so because I love my deflock and that is not really the point of the poll...
The answer is Twist ;) I adore her colours.
-
Twist seems like such an unusually dark purple when she's deflocked, so she stands out to me the most.
-
Ack! How could you possibly make me choose between Ribbon and Gusty?? I just can't do it...lol
-
I chose Fifi, her colour scheme really appeals to me - it's simple but it works very well. Her poodle symbol is a nice fun touch too. :)
-
Im going with Twist shes purple and red so bold. I also love that shes a pretzel pony and I love pretzels! :D
-
Buttons because she was my first ever pony, but man, Twist is up there.
-
Twist. Maybe... Yeah. Probably.
-
Gusty. I know she had a regular release, but she is one of my all time favorite ponies.
-
Fifi, although Ribbon & Buttons are right behind her.
-
This one was a bit harder. I went for Ribbon eventually, but I really like Twist and Gusty too.
-
That was hard, I like them all. I feel like I should pick Gusty because she's my favorite pony but her SS form isn't my favorite. I ended up choosing Bangles, I love her pose.
-
After much deliberation, I chose Ribbon. It was close though. Twist second, Gusty third. Buttons is another favorite. My daughter likes Fifi best.
-
I chose Fifi, because I love her curls and colours. But Twist would be a close second. Gusty is the only one I don't have (wahhhhhhhh!) so who knows, perhaps one day my opinion might change when I finally get her in hand!
-
My childhood pony Ribbon.
-
Buttons. I loved her in the cartoon. ^.^ And her color scheme is also very pretty.
-
This was a hard one, I love them all! :)
-
It might seem an obvious observation but it just occurred to me that Ribbon really is only a SS pony. I don't know why that's so hard for me to grasp, because I don't have the same issues with Cupcake and Truly. Just for some reason I always think that Ribbon is a regular pony with a SS version and she isn't. I love Ribbon but I can't watch the cartoon and see cartoon Ribbon as a So Soft, because as a kid I believed in her as a regular pony, and that's all I see or think of in her case :/ So I guess in some ways I probably love Ribbon most, but as I said before, I can't vote for her in a SS poll, because to me the deflocked Ribbon is the real Ribbon, and the SS (which is the real Ribbon) is just a variant form o.O.
As a child I was convinced both Ribbon and Lofty were 'originals' because of the Fact File and so I still see them that way. Whereas I didn't believe Cupcake and Truly existed, so I can accept them as being So Soft Ponies (even though in their case regular versions exist!)
How weird childhood memory is in these things O.o.
I seriously wish Hasbro UK had chosen Ribbon and not Gusty though in the movie star set. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I really like Ribbon's colours more.
-
Well, if I recall correctly Gusty had a greater part or at least substantially more screentime and lines than Ribbon in the movie, so it makes sense that she was picked for that set

She did, and I think that is probably what happened to make the final decision. There are hints among the UK stuff for 1986 into 1987 that it was originally going to be Ribbon (specifically her being mentioned on a backcard and illustrated on the club material) but I get the feeling Hasbro suddenly realised at some point in pre-production that they'd never actually bothered to release Gusty in the UK, in spite of giving her a prominent character in the comics as the baby pony nurse. And I guess that was what decided it. She was important both in the movie (which was the purpose of that set) and in the UK comic, so Ribbon could not compete. In spite of that Ribbon (and Lofty and Paradise) were all included in the fact file. I guess that probably means Lofty was also under consideration at one point but fell out of production plans before Ribbon and long before Paradise who at least had a prototype made before she was dropped.
I just find it sad that in the club material, the movie star ponies minus Gusty and plus Ribbon are illustrated all around the border. It makes me think of another pony that might have been but wasn't.
Gusty is lovely, and very popular. But Hasbro really should have bothered to sell the year 2 and 3 unicorns and pegasus ponies, considering they bothered to package them on UK cards and advertise them in the comics. I'm certain we lost Ribbon because Hasbro didn't sell Gusty when they were meant to, and so they had to fix that instead.
...We lost out a lot with the early unicorns and pegasus ponies because of Hasbro's distribution issues and I genuinely feel Ribbon was another victim of that oversight :'( I genuinely consider her as part of my childhood, but SS ponies weren't a part of my childhood, so I still can't think of the SS form as 'real' Ribbon, even though I know she is ;)

Fifi becouse I like unusual symbols
-
Ribbon!! Gusty is a close second though!
-
Fifi
Ribbon is my second favourite
-
Ribbon! I loved her and her baby in the animation. :D
