A quick fix for a Greek baby with a damaged eye
« on: May 26, 2012, 11:24:36 AM »
I recently purchased a flawed Greek Baby Blossom from skyrocketneko. I didn't have any Greek ponies and I really wanted a baby but didn't think that I could afford one for a while. So when I saw this one for sale for a decent price, I decided to buy her despite her flaws, especially since I knew that she could still display well on the side with the good eye...

Anyways, she arrived in the mail earlier this week and I came up with a way to fix her up. I didn't want to repaint the eye because I don't trust myself to do a good enough job and I didn't want to send her to a customizer because I would have had to pay for the work and for shipping and I don't want to spend more money. So I scanned her good eye with my scanner and I made a mirror image of it. I then printed the image on a sticker sheet and I cut around the iris and stuck it on the missing eye. It's not perfect yet. For one thing, since I couldn't close the lid of my scanner, too much light came in and the colours are washed out. And the sticker doesn't stick very well... But I can always make a better sticker later. Anyways, here's what she looks like for now :

I even attempted to make her a pirate patch but it doesn't want to stay in place because of the shape of her head and neck :)

Anyways, I know that it's not a perfect solution but at least now I can display her without having to scream in horror everytime I get a glimpse of her "other" side, lol!

Yes, it's just regular sticker paper for now. I'm thinking I'll try again with a different kind of sticker sheet, like a permanent or a transparent one.

Aw, it looks good, I wanted that greek baby blossom, but my wallet it pretty exhausted. Glad she went to a good home. If you ever want to sell her you know where to find me ;)

Alright LuvMyBoy! If I ever decide to upgrade, I'll think of you :) But I do tend to get attached to my well-loved ponies so it's not likely that I'll ever want to upgrade her...

She will probably still be a pirate, even though I will be keeping the sticker on her eye underneath the patch. I was actually thinking of making her a small handkerchief like pirates wear on their heads and gluing the patch to that. But I haven't had the time to make it yet...

That's an excellent idea - I would never have  thought of scanning the good one to make a printed one! Love the pirate patch though ;)

I like that idea, you get a pony that looks legit for yourself and if you ever re-sell her you can just take the sticker off (for all those fussy collectors that like original!) Win win!

Rel, you're hilarious! But I'm no genius... I just happen to be married to an engineer and his inventiveness and problem solving skills have sort of rubbed off on me!
