anyone carry an epi-pen?
« on: June 07, 2012, 07:39:26 PM »
have any advise on flying with it, or dealing with nosy overly thorough purse-lookers-inners like at concert venues and such.

i don't fly much, being rather terrified of it. and the tsa horrifies me. will they know what it is? am i asking to be pulled aside?

I have always thought the same thing with mine! It almost makes me way to scared to fly >.<

Sorry I'm no help, but I think you'd just need to write it down on your deceleration thing

i've considered simply packing it in my checked bag. i'm pretty unlikely to encounter a bee on a plane. but then i remember disembarking in las vegas and getting stung walking to the tram!

I carry an epi-pen for my son. And asthma inhalers for me and my daughter. Doctor's note and prescription information is what I carry when we fly. Also, do not put epi-pens and asthma inhalers in check baggage because of the temperature fluctuations. They will weaken the potency of the epinephrine. Knock on wood, we haven't had any problems.

Oh, that's good info ^^ Thank you, I carry mine for a large range of reasons T.T So it's not something I can leave behind. I'd always just thought about putting all my meds, including inhalers and epi-pen in my check baggage, good to learn that.

When flying with an Epi-pen or any sort of medical device that involves liquid or needles, it's best to go through security in the "extra time" line.  Bring it up with security folks in advance, and make sure all medications are labeled with prescription information.  And always, always make sure any medication is in your carry on!  You never know what'll happen, and your luggage may get lost.

I don't need one but i'm Epipen admin trained,  as a child in the class next to mine needs one, amazing things! I might get myself one of those dummy practice ones to practice with since I'm terrified of needles and know you can't see them, but it's the whole jabbing thing that worries me!
Hope you can travel hassle-free!

I have one with me all the time. Had a few times that they made an issue out of it when going to an outdoors party or concert, but when I explained they got it.

My father carries his diabetes meds and shots.  He goes through the inspection line or whatnot and tells them everything he has. It's all labeled.  Then he gives them a doctors note that basically says what he has and that he needs it with him at all times.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

thank you ever so much for the information. i was uninsured for a very long time and haven't carried an epipen since high school. of course i know security is an entirely different world than it used to be.

Its something that will save your life.  They cant take that away from you.

Just make you you tell them its on you ahead of time and make sure its clearly labeled.

I dont have one but mom does and im trained to use one if I have to.  Ive seen anapheletic shock...its not fun.
