Finding other brand horses
« on: May 24, 2012, 04:50:42 PM »
Well, I was in heaven today when I went to an antique shop at saw shelves and shelves of Breyer horses.  I really need these larger horses for a Breyer Stable I aquired from a thrift store.  The ones I have are really small...too small. I wanted like 4 adult horses and 4 babies.  I can't afford these.  They are like 20-25 dollars each at the store. I would have spent over 100.00 to get what I wanted and I am not willing to do this. I try to find horses on ebay, but they are all too small...like 4 inches long. I want the bigger ones and I am having no luck finding reasonably priced lots of realistic looking horses.  Is there a way to ask for the size I need? I don't seem to find anything affordable.  I want to spend like 10.00 each horse...not 20.00.

$20-25 each for a Breyer is not unreasonable.  I can occasionally find them at flea markets for $14 each, but that's once every few years.  With a Breyer, you're paying for the name.  Peter Stone horses are even worse!

You could try Kid Kore horses.  They're the right size, but don't look anywhere near as nice. There are also some larger Grand Champions that are pretty cool.

I second what Eskara said. And there are also some Barbie horses that may fit your requirements.

I was going to suggest Barbie horses (you can find some realistic-ish colouring flocked horses in most $1 stores that are similar size to Barbie horses). These kind of types:

I was going to say She-Ra, but even without accessories they can fetch as much as Breyers sometimes.

Oh yea I totally get that they were not over priced..just too much for me.  How can I search on ebay for horses and actually find the larger horses rather than these mini small ones?

If you want high quality horses for less than $10 there's only small ones like Bullyland, CollectA, Mojo Fun, Papo, Safari Ltd and Schleich. CollectA also makes big ones (7 inches tall) but they're kind of expensive.
G1, G2 and G3 collector. I also collect a bunch of other stuff. (Too much..)

Only things I can think of are fantasy coloured.  Id still try to find barbie though--might be your best bet.

Honestly, just do a search on eBay for Breyer lot!  You'd be surprised what you can find;)  I found one lot of 9 horses for .99 with 3 days to go.  True, all are missing a leg or tail, but that's easy enough to fix if you want a good horse cheap.

I suggest Grand Champions for a very realistic cheap horse. The Classic series of Breyers can be cheaper too and they aren't too small. The big ones you're looking at are called Traditional scale.
