Have you made a My Little Pony Cake?? Show Me!!
« on: January 30, 2014, 09:11:12 PM »
So, three of my daughters have birthdays within a month of each other so we always do one big party for the three of them. This year, they want a MLP birthday cake!! I'm a DIY kind of baking mom so I'd like to decorate it myself rather than order one.

I'm in need of some ideas and inspiration!

Have you made one? I'd love to see some pictures!

I made a g1 one with the Wilton cakepan on my last birthday, but as I had no decorating tools (thought we had them so didn't buy them!) it didn't come out very good at all and I didn't take pictures.

I'd love to attempt it again! Post pictures when you do. :D

Lol! Those form pans are sooo much work with all that star tip piping.

I think I'm planning on using G4 brushables on the cake. Not sure if I'm going to do a large sheet cake or a tiered cake. I've been looking on pinterest, but it's all so extravagant! I don't know if I'm that talented, lol.

Here's a simple sheet cake with a (g3) figurine stuck in it if you do wanna keep it simple. :) Just stick a bunch of g4 cuties on with piped flowers all about. ^.^

That is cute! I love the colors. I think I'll have to go a little above that though. I've done some good cakes in the past so the girlies know what I'm capable of  ;)

Even better :D can't wait to see what you create.

Also how appropriate that I comment on this post considering my name  :P

Icing cake-topper was bought from an Ebay seller, the sponge colours I tried to match to the G1 rainbow

I wish I had a picture to share, but for my 22nd birthday, my sisters got a round cake that was decorated on the top with round dollops of frosting as a border, and on each dollop they stuck in a blind bag pony  ^.^ Then the rest of the cake was decorated with frosting to look like streamers and rainbow colored sprinkles. It was so cute!

Super cute! I've always wanted to try a rainbow layer cake! Did you just use box mix and tint it?

I wish I had pictures of the cake that my co-worker and I made... it was sculpted and it had cupcakes inside it for the hills and clouds, and little ponies everywhere... airbrushing, flowers... yeah it was really really pretty.

No box mix, standard butter/flour/sugar/eggs sponge recipe then split into batches and tinted. Best to use the paste or gel colourings (I used Dr Oetker tubes if you have them over there?) as the liquid type is too weak and dilutes the mixture too much ;)

My parents used to bake cakes and sell them when I was growing up so I've had all kinds of awesome cakes over the years. I actually had a whole My Little Pony birthday party one year. I've got pictures in my photo album, I'll see if I can find it and scan some of the pics.
