2016 Texas Pony Meet Up!

Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Tyler, TX

Time: 10 am - 5 pm ish

Location(s): Sweet_Stuff's Home

Sign up deadline: Closed

About: This will be a multi-generational, family friendly pony meet up, focusing on the older gens (G1-G3) for Texan collectors - this is not a Brony event. Feel free to bring ponies/accessories/playsets for sale or trade and even some of your favorite G1 - G3 ponies for Show and Tell! Please note: We will not turn away non Texas folks who are in town that weekend and would like to attend! UPDATE: My mom is graciously helping with lunch refreshments. Dinner as well as buying & trading are Dutch/on your own.

For participants: We should have enough G3 prizes and would appreciate more of G1 and G2 prizes. If you plan to help with FOOD/REFRESHMENTS, DECORATIONS or general SET UP, please plan to arrive at around 9 a.m. Saturday. While there is no cost to attend, donations are welcome! ALL donations will go to paying my mom back for lunch and extra items she has/will graciously bought/buy for this.

I ask all participants to please refrain from wearing any kind of perfume / cologne that day/evening as your hostess is chemically sensitive. If you must wear it, I ask that you do not sign up. Thanks for your understanding in advance!

If you would like a list of things to do in the area, I can provide suggestions! Please PM if you would like to sign up! You are welcome to bring a guest and/or food/treats for everyone, just let me know so we have a good count/enough.

Any questions?, please PM me. At some point after deadline has passed and location(s) is/are secured, I will notify all participants with additional information.


Tentative Schedule:
9 am Arrive/set up - Optional - only if you brought goodies/food, BST & Raffle items
10 am - noon Welcome, Buy/Sell/Trade! Don't forget to get your $1 & $5 raffle tickets and guess how many peppermints are in the jar! All proceeds goes toward paying my mom back!  :biggrin:
Noon Lunch Time!
1:30 pm Door prizes / Jar Contest winner announced. Mystery gift bag of pony goodness!
2 - 3 pm Show and Tell - First ponies, rare ponies, customs, etc.
3 - 4 pm Raffle drawings ($5 and $1 / ticket)
4:30 ish Wrap Up / Remaining Door Prizes / Farewell.
5 pm Clean Up
6:30 pm Dinner - Optional/Dutch. Restaurant info already given out to those who signed up.  :)

*BST is optional and ongoing between buyers/sellers/traders -- please make fair arrangements and deals!*

Looks like I can't go ^^; the thought of not wearing any type of fragrance makes me feel less hygienic and funky to say the least  >_<

Aw, ok. It sucks that I even have to mention that.. I had a nasty pesticide exposure in January, and unfortunately I'm now sensitive to formaldehyde, cigarette smoke, most perfumes/ colognes, chemical cleaners and related stuff.. I've been to doctors, and they all say it's a temporary thing, but they can't tell me when / if I'll be back to "normal."  >_<  :(

I might be able to attend! I'd come in from Mississippi :) No scents is fine by me, absolutely! My hubby is allergic to cigarettes and my family in New York have severe sensitivities </3 I know how hard it is to deal with, inhaling them and not being able to breathe :(

So I was perusing eBay and ran across a collector in Tyler, Tx!  I don't know if she/he is one of the people already listed here but in case she isn't, I messaged her with a link to this thread.  I hope she is able to come cause it looks like she is selling a lot of really great g1 stuff!

I'm visiting my girlfriend this weekend and we are going to see what we can do about coming if she can get off work then we will come. Do you know of good hotels near the where you're planning to have it? I live in Arkansas and she lives in Missouri so I think we would end up needing a hotel for sure.  :lol:

I'm actually trying to have it at a hotel conference room so it will be convenient for those traveling in. :)

Hey there, just a lil update! My time off I requested for this meet up is STILL pending in my company's system (curse you home office!) Worse comes to worse and I can't make it I can always mail you some goodie bags and G3's to bring to the meet up! Aaaaaarrrg wanna go sooooo bad not just for ponies and friends but Fazolis! My husband loved it and wants to go back out there just for that! Tyler TX is only an hour and a half drive for me! I like it out there! Pretty pine trees and pretty red dirt  LOL

Bad news guys . . . The venue that I finally agreed upon does NOT have group rates...nothing is set in stone of course because no contracts have been signed but now I'm just disappointed and feel totally deflated.. :(

This has been the WORST trying to find a place for this thing...they either said no, or didn't return phone calls. First, I find a great place - but the hotel has got some funky air freshener / cleaning agent that makes it difficult for me to breathe..plus the conference room is WAY too expensive.. So I finally find two other nice options at sister hotels next door to each other, but neither one of them offer group rates... ugh!  >_< :mad: :(


So I guess it's back to the drawing board...???  :blush:

Perhaps you can take a poll on who plans on staying at the hotel and whether group rates are important to them?  I, myself, already have a place to stay while I'm in town.

And if it comes down to it, I'm ok with just picnicking in the park and shopping out of each other's car trunks.

You know... that is a WONDERFUL idea!! I never thought about that before! :cool:

Ok y'all, taking a cue from Sunset, I need to know who needs a hotel room AND if they can swing $99 per night. . (cheapest at the venue sister hotel site, IF we go with that option..) Then the suites are $109 studio and $129 for two queen beds (at venue if it stays as planned). I'm assuming most will be coming in the Friday before. There is a hotel not too far away that will be $79 or $89 for two queen beds, but it's the place that has a weird air freshener / cleaner smell so that may not work for some of y'all...

I would host it at my place, if push comes to shove but I love the park idea. If bad weather, I may just go ahead with my plan as is.. I feel kinda lost though, so any encouragement is appreciated!

I may hear back from a couple of hotels that I called.... so there is still hope to host the meet at a hotel conference room. If those places fall through, I got another idea up my sleeve... :devious:

I decided on a location and will make it official later this week if all goes well!

The last hotel that seemed to have potential offered an amazing set up with wonderful price points but the meeting room must have had new carpet, because the formaldehyde smell in there was awful and started to make me sick. :( So, back to the location I ended up with a couple of weeks ago! :)

The hotel conference room didn't work out after all, and I'm needing to save up funds anyway so I thought this would be a great final alternative. :thumb:

Hey everyone! :)

Folks are asking me about food preps ... Are there any food allergies / sensitivities we need to be made aware of for lunch?

I can't eat peanuts, coconut, raw lemon, whole grain wheat, peas, chickpeas and any tree nuts processed near or with peanuts.

Also, I do have a short hair cat inside my home so there will be cat hairs around... I'm so sorry I didn't mention this sooner  :blush: I will lock her up nearby so she won't be bothering us but just wanted to let participants know before hand. If are you / your guests are allergic to cats / cat hair, please take necessary precaution, however feel free to meet us for dinner if you'd like!

Well I have some food issues, but I'm also not wanting to damper what people bring. I have s geographic tongue which makes me very sensitive to spicey or acidic food. My IBS can be bothered by things like pizza sauce and such. I'm not trying to ruin what people bring, just maybe if you do make something that I wouldn't obviously know would hurt me give me a heads up? Lol I'm on a diet program and just eat small portions anyway and think I will be fine: :)

I understand, I have IBS too. Acidic stuff doesn't bother me and pizza is good, but it's other stuff ..mainly seeds (like if I eat a lot of strawberries) and popcorn that really bother me. Lots of people are wanting to bring various desserts/treats like cookies and such..as long as there is one peanut free option, I'll be good! :D :thumb:

 Thanks! They are hand painted on a piece of loose canvas.  The canvas makes it more flexible and less likely to crease the way a print would.  I do commissions if your interested in one. 

This is what I'm working on now.  They are two separate backdrops but can be used together also.  The one on the left is finished.  The other is a work in progress.

I actually just got my table the other day from school. I was using it as a supply table although I did buy it to put a PE on if I ever bite the bullet and buy one.  :P

I'll more than likely have table space to share. I don't really have extra ponies and just intend to bring some plush critters. I doubt with all the things I have to do this month I just make a ton of them though!  :silly:

I wear the Coppertone Sport sunscreen if I'm outside. I started wearing it when I was a kid playing softball, and it's one of the few I can wear that keeps me from ending up with large blisters on my pale skin. Is that going to bother anyone smell wise? It doesn't have a certain smell to it other than smelling like sunscreen.

I don't know how it will affect me, I've never smelled it or used any kind of sunscreen since the incident.. I suppose it just depends on what chemicals are in it.. Of course, I don't know which ones will and which ones won't affect me negatively.
With the way our weather has been going lately though, you may not need the sunscreen!

I feel you, it's early June and already 88 today here. I feel like the summer is going to be super burning hot. :lol:

It doesn't have a label with any certain smell. I know it has that sunscreen smell but doesn't smell like anything in particular other then that. I started using it when I was younger after I was horridly burned and had to go see the doctor and couldn't move off the couch much for a week. It's kind of ironic that my dad is super dark skinned, and he just tans some while I fry and peal and roll around in pain. Anytime I use something else though it just doesn't work well but since this doesn't wear off like normal sunscreen I do well. Cool though if we're not outside I should be fine. My skin is just crazy sensitive. I actually have burned through my car windows before. ^.^

It's sensitive all around and not just sun. I bought s pony once where someone wrapped up all nice but there was a scent to everything. The decent didn't make me sick but whatever oil came from it caused me to break out in rashes.

I'm thinking of bringing some TLC playset shells and selling for cheap. I have some Show Stables and maybe a dance studio.

I also might bring a Butterfly Island set and one of the G3 sets. I really want to clear them out!

I know I'm bringing G1s, G3s and G3.5s. I also have a bin of McPonies and another if fakies. I have some G1 and G3 accessories. I'm planning on bringing some G3 merch, too.

I kinda have a lot prepped to bring. So far, I have about 40 G3s, 15 G1s, 15 fakies, some Poneyville, and G3 accessories. I'm going to get what I have for the Butterfly Island set together as well as the Celebration Castle. I'm considering getting rid of my almost complete Twinkle Twirl's Dance Studio. Maybe donate as a door prize? I need to wipe down a couple of Show Stable shells and bag some G1 accessories. Plus, I have some Barbie stuff and most likely some other things, too. I'm hoping people will be interested in some of the stuff. I really want to get rid of some stuff.

Some of that is Barbie, so I'm hoping somebody finds something in those. I have about 100 of the Barbie shell brushes. So I'm hoping to come back with fewer of those for sure! I swear they multiply!
