Title: Have you made a My Little Pony Cake?? Show Me!!
Post by: Pony_Mama on January 30, 2014, 09:11:12 PM: So, three of my daughters have birthdays within a month of each other so we always do one big party for the three of them. This year, they want a MLP birthday cake!! I'm a DIY kind of baking mom so I'd like to decorate it myself rather than order one.

I'm in need of some ideas and inspiration!

Have you made one? I'd love to see some pictures!

I'd love to attempt it again! Post pictures when you do. :D

I think I'm planning on using G4 brushables on the cake. Not sure if I'm going to do a large sheet cake or a tiered cake. I've been looking on pinterest, but it's all so extravagant! I don't know if I'm that talented, lol.

Post by: InkyMilk on January 30, 2014, 10:16:38 PM: I wish I had a picture to share, but for my 22nd birthday, my sisters got a round cake that was decorated on the top with round dollops of frosting as a border, and on each dollop they stuck in a blind bag pony ^.^ Then the rest of the cake was decorated with frosting to look like streamers and rainbow colored sprinkles. It was so cute!

No box mix, standard butter/flour/sugar/eggs sponge recipe then split into batches and tinted. Best to use the paste or gel colourings (I used Dr Oetker tubes if you have them over there?) as the liquid type is too weak and dilutes the mixture too much ;)

I actually had a whole My Little Pony birthday party one year. I've got pictures in my photo album, I'll see if I can find it and scan some of the pics.

A bit of a cheat, but for my daughter's 4th, we got a Costco cake with a rainbow, and stuck a few of the blind bag ponies in the frosting. She loved it!

The ppl who entered that should post the cakes, there were so many fun ones that I remember. I LOVE that fancy rainbow-inside cake. The pastel colors and many layers are so beautiful. It's extremely "MLP" all the way through. (It must of been a lot of work separating & dyeing in different bowls!)

My cake was on there too but sadly it was a photo with a kind of poor camera so Pony Party Surprise Cake looks a little garish.

The Surprise on top is fake.
It's great to have a cake with BB's or G3s or really anypony on there because that way it's a gift & a cake in 1. After the cake is done, they collect the pony & then those ponies will always have special meaning for them because they were the "cake ponies" from that year.

UMM NO, this is amazing!!! I would freak out if I got that cake :biggrin: like literally lol. The pony really looks like a real pony :shocked: the eyes are perfect and everything. Great job!!

So many beautiful cakes here! I've had 1 MLP cake myself. My mom surprised me on my 18th birthday (I was home from school sick) with a cake decorated with little breezies from g3.. I loved that cake, it was an awesome surprise. Breezies are so cute. I don't collect g3 but I wish I had all the breezies! The ones from my cake are the only ones I have. :)

I've had great fun doing elaborate designs and artwork on gingerbread with royal icing, and you can then go on to use it as a cake topper. Royal icing is a little more flexible art-wise than the usual kind, I would wager!

As well as baking me this wonderful cake, Paul made it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had as an adult because I was able to act just like a kid again lol. :biggrin:

All the cakes in this thread are wonderful and I especially love Pinkamena's Dream Castle cake - I wouldn't have wanted to cut it! :lol:

I want caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!!!!!

I have never made a cake in my life lol, I'm not the baking type! But in 1986 my Mum made this cake for me for my 7th birthday :)
