Recently found Surprise, which was unexpected. I've been eyeing her though because that hair color and the possibility of staining. Likely will end up unboxing her because of that. But it got me wondering as to what you all are doing with yours. Are you keeping them in their boxes? Opening them to display / photograph? A mix of the two depending upon the pony?
-
I keep them in the box unless they're dupes, I rehair the dupes. :)
I know the Confetti I unboxed shortly after release had staining already.
-
I'm also interested to hear what others are doing with these! I have both...I have duplicates of both the Gusty/Sparkler set and the Twinkle Eyed set, and I only unboxed one set of each, but it feels kind of excessive as I am in purge mode these days, so I'll probably end up selling the NIB ones at some point. I just get more enjoyment out of my open ones!
Stranger Things Applejack is going to be stuck living in her box, though.
-
I unboxed my Surprise long enough to wrap her hair in Kleenex because her hair had already left marks on her. She looks like someone took a yellow highlighter to her. It's not overly noticeable, but I know it's there. I've put her back in her box so that her hair doesn't stain anyone else. Otherwise, due to lack of space, I've unboxed them.
-
I haven't decided yet. There is the possibility of keeping these MIB while bringing out my childhood ponies to pose next to them. Space is the eternal issue, though. :(
I don't have many of this set, as I don't go out anymore...like most of the world! :) While I love looking at them and enjoy the nostalgia of seeing the G1s again, I don't think I can justify buying them all. I'm just picking the favorites for now.
-
I mostly only keep brand new toys MIB if I particularly like the box design, and I do really like the Basic Fun boxes. That being said I dont have many, if I had a whole bunch keeping them in-box would take up way too much space in my tiny apartment. I already dedicate a bit more space than I probably should to my collections.
-
They're your ponies, whatever you want to do. I open mine.
-
I've kept mine in boxes and bought a few just to open. But at this point... there are a lot in box and it's hard to find a place to display them.
-
I've never really been an NRFB-ist so I debox mine, that said I don't have a lot of the Basic Funs anyway. Only set I completed was the collector ponies, after that I've just been picking up ones that I'm missing the original 80s version of - don't have the money/space/desire to get everyone again.
-
I usually take them out of the box. I have a limited amount of space and boxes take up SPACE. Also, I like to touch my ponies and play with their hair and display them in groups, ect.
-
Out of all of mine, I opened Surprise just to take her tail off her leg, but put her back in the box. But it was too late, she's already stained. Now after reading about Confetti above, I guess I need to open her too.
-
I keep mine in their boxes because I don't know what else to do with them. They look nice on display as is.
-
Non-white ones stay boxed. White ones are awesome for Customising
-
So far all of mine are still in their boxes. I did buy an extra set of Collector Ponies to debox but haven't gotten to them yet.
Ponyfan

I bought Blue Belle to unbox, but kept the others in box. I kept a few G4 playsets in box too. So if I ever did do a big display I would have some items with packaging to look at the artwork.
-
Most of them are all opened and on display except the latest round since I haven't made a space for them yet. The empty boxes I have stored on shelves behind Barbie and Disney Doll boxes.
-
I have them displayed in box stacked on top of each other on top of my 2 display cases. So I'm running out of room fast... I'll Show pics later
-
I've only got Tickle, and while I did debox her I collapsed her box and saved it - just in case I'd like to display her in it again.

Would love to see!

I like to keep them in their box :)
-
I took my BF Moondancer out of the box, but I kept the box.
-
They’re the time of box I usually keep, where you can pop out the pony and brush her and handle her, then pop them back in and keep them on display. I’m an opener, and I love styling them. But there are some (the Core 7 anniversary ones, the art ponies, etc) that you can just let stay in box on display but take them in and out neatly.
The only one I haven’t is the SDCC Majesty because it doesn’t seem like I can, the way the back curves is odd, I can’t explain it right now but might try later.
-
as I only have 1 of each im not unboxing them :)
-
are they all scented?
i got a couple and i opened them to enjoy the scent and also to not trap it in there. they do look nice in box though.

I think only the first set of rainbow ponies were scented. None of the BF ponies I have are scented, but the Moonstone I bought my niece is, and still smells quite strongly 3 or 4 years later after being unboxed.
-
I kept one MiB and then I suddenly noticed the bow had stained its plastic and it had a big old pink blotch on its butt. That's when I deboxed.
I recently got a Fizzy, so while I keep her in her box I still opened the box to take off her pink bow and store it away from her body. So basically I would recommend opening the ones with pink bows. It's too much of a risk to me.
-
I have bought the full line MIB and deboxed them all so far, excepting the SDCC Majesty because I had to find a factory second. 😬 I’ve opened them all, because I’m not a MIB collector!
-
I've opened every one I've bought. Toys are playthings, not paintings.

Right. You got to unbox, then carefully cut out the actual painting on the back of the box and put that on your wall ;)
The boxes do have nice art, I'd hate to throw it away.

Oh man, I didn't know some of the ribbons could stain too :(
So... the scented Rainbows could discolour, Surprise's hair can stain, and the pink ribbons can stain too... are there any other issues w/ Basic Funs?

IDK if it's being kept in a box, or if it just happens to them naturally, but there seems to be an issue with some Gustys whose heads start yellowing, or going off-white, and it causes head-body mismatch. No clue how or why, but it happened to someone I follow on IG! She was very sad! I also imagine the second-year Rainbows could have a potential to stain, didn't they use that Surprise shade of yellow-green in their hair too? Or is that a thing? :P
-
I wish I could buy a swimming pool full of these and just lie around in them. Unboxed! When is the next set coming?
-
Unboxed! I've only got two though and I don't have room for boxes so I prefer to get ponies loose. I feel sorry for them trapped inside the boxes, even though it means righting off the value for my pension by unboxing(!).
-
I keep mine in their boxes because I like the box designs, and it helps keeping them distinct from my vintage ponies (I mean, not that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but I like how that clearly sets them apart). Also, I'm lazy :P
They take up a lot of room but I only buy the ones I particularly like. So far that's five ponies: Bubbles, Seashell (because those two have always eluded me), Gusty (an army pony), Surprise (got her together with Gusty, no reason except I couldn't resist the pristine white), and Stranger Things Applejack.

I have all my ponies unboxed now. I swear my pony room is even more super-scented. It smells mainly like pancakes and maple syrup even if its just supposed to be vanilla lol

Been doing that myself now. Honestly loving having them out. Do appreciate that they have a hoof that has Basic Fun stamped on the underside. :) Zero chance of being able to mix them up with original ones that way.

YES! It's funny how much the pony room has a pancake and maple syrup smell wafting around in there now. Didn't expect that. Nice that the smell is lessening some though because gracious was it overpowering at first. My allergies were not amused by it.
