I really really like them <3
Would somebody maybe able to pick up a Cotton Candy or Butterscotch for me and ship her to Germany? That wopuld be really awesome! I bet we wont get them here (we never got the others either).

If I can find them in my area, I would be happy to pick you up a pony or two! I'm stopping by my Targets on the way home from work, every day until I find them

I'm hoping Target has these when I check. I've narrowed down my first purchase to either Butterscotch, Blossom, Minty or Bluebelle. How will I decide?  :what:

I wish I could buy a full set at one time.

What kind of hair do they have?
Is it like real original G1 hair or is it more like the hair the 25th anniv ponies had?
 ;)

I was able to score a full set today:D I opened Minty. They are a million times nicer than the 25th ones! The hair in the tails are nice and thick. It's not G1 hair, it feels different but not in a bad way. I'm going to see if hot water will tame her mane. They are not perfect but overall very happy with them. Some things I noticed:

*Eyes are too big for the eye sockets. Some overflow from the indented spaces for them.

Quote
*plastic is smooth. Not like G1 or G3. It's harder not real squishy.

Thanks, they do seem much nicer than I expected.

They eye socket thing is interesting. Do you mean they painted outside the lines so to speak?
I remember the 25th anniversary ponies had eyes that were too small. That was one of the complaints people had about them. Some people even tried to repaint the eyes making them more like the original.
I wonder if Hasbro made the molds for these 35th anniversary ponies too a long time ago and held on to them and now when they release them they decided to paint the eyes bigger after all.

The plastic, do you mean it's hard as in hard plastic (ish) or hard as in how some G1s can get rock hard with time?

The bodies still give a little but the plastic isn't completely rock hard;) And yes that's what i meant about the eyes. Many of them the paint goes over the indents where the eye go.

I'm  pretty sure hasbro didn't have these molds made a long time ago. Maybe 6 months. The Bridge company would have sent over a pony to either be 3D scanned or these are made the traditional way. It's amazing how they make these! In the wax stage of molding they make the pony 25% larger so it shrinks down properly.  I believe these were probably made in a blow mold like G1 for that reason. The copy of the mold is spot on whereas the 25th anniversary are wonky and slightly smaller. I toured the hasbro factory at the time for the 2008 pony fair and they told us those ponies were 3D scanned because they didn't have the original molds anymore. And quite obviously computers just couldn't capture them properly.

I hope the one set per store rumor isn't true.  I'm not going to be able to buy a full set at once.

Ponyfan

It probably isn't. Not even Hasbro's that dumb.

Yahoo a Target trip is in order!!!  I'm definitely getting at least a couple of these girls (probably not the whole set due to space issues).  This is so exciting, and they look like really good!

I'm guessing they will be like the re-released "classic" Strawberry Shortcake dolls, a bit scarce at first and then plenty, and then disappear.

I would keep an eye on ToysRUs as well because the SSC toys appeared there for a while too.

BridgeDirect (the company making the classic ponies) is the same company that made the classic SSC and Ragedy Anne/Andy (and other) toys so I expect they will follow the same trajectory...

They actually did a great job with the SSC except they cheaped out just a bit on the outfits...

Good point. In fact, there are still SSC dolls at TrU. They are also at Barnes and Noble.

I hope they are like the retro SSC dolls with the distrubution. I checked Target today and didn't even see a shelf tag for the 35th anniversary poinies.

I cannot wait to get my hands on these! I went to two Targets and I didn't find anything.  Hopefully better luck next time!

Also, Hasbro may have chosen this set because they were the "first ponies" and because they may have lost the rights to their other G1 charcters. (I know, stupid right) I think thats why we see the same G1 ponies on merch and other places (for example, Princess Sparkle, why not any of the other ponies from that set?) Again I think it is patent, copyright complications ect...

Sunset, your saying that these 6 ponies aren't meant to grab 80s kids, who are adults with disposable income first and foremost? That's like saying the Integrity Dolls aren't meant to grab JatH fans. Or retro Strawberry Shortcake dolls aren't for original  SSC fans. These are meant to grab Collecters first. Kids will also be interested in them.

No, I absolutely  never said that.  I don't know how to be more clear.  I said it was to grab parents or really any adult in the toy isle who had ponies as a kid.  Isn't that understood to be mostly 80's kids?  I said that it didn't have to be *these* ponies.  I said that the average person who *did* have ponies as a child doesn't always remember specifics about the particular ponies they had.  And even if they do, how much more likely it was Bow tie or Quackers or any one of the other 300 plus characters that where available?

Also,  blaming Hasbro for the distribution of these is like blaming Hasbro for Build A Bear's or Loyal Subject's distribution.  Hasbro has nothing to do with the distribution of licensed items.

You didn't really make it that clear, but nevermind. Water under the bridge. Hakuna Matata.

Hasbro  did greenlight these toys and their distribution has proven to be terrible. Especially with exclusives.  I'm not familiar with The Bridge Direct's distribution methods, but, thus far, I can easily find their retro products in several stores, now that I know what to look for.

Hasbro didn't lose the rights to their other ponies.  The reason we see certain ponies repeated on G1 retro merchandise is because Hasbro doesn't send licensees (the companies who make socks or t-shirts or whatever) pictures of all the hundreds of G1 ponies there ever were.  They send images of a limited number of ponies, of varying colors and designs.  :)  The ponies in the portfolio are therefore the ones we see on merchandise over and over again.  But Hasbro does still own the rights to the other ponies.  :)

That's right, you HAVE to have the new hat!!!!!!!!!

I knew what clip that was without even clicking LOL

If I see them in the wild, I might buy them.  But it depends on price.  Let's remember that the teeny weeny tiny Running Press mini pony figures were $12.50 CAD!!!!  There is wanting to support licensed G1 products, and then there's having to sacrifice actual needs because there's not enough money in the bank account.
